Mrs. Labrador's Picture
Mrs. Labrador Retriever, Athens/Savannah Age and Occupation: 24, Student/Sports Reporter Fiance's Age and Occupation: 29, Physical Therapy Assistant Student/Future Dr. of PT Engagement Date: December 31, 2008 Wedding Date: November 2009 Venue: Whitfield Square/Savannah Station About Me: I'm working on my second degree from UGA (Go Dawgs!). I'm a self-proclaimed attention-w****. If it involves a camera, I'm in front of it! You'll never meet a girlier tomboy than me. I can go toe to toe with any guy on the subject of college football, and lift more than any girl in my gym, all without chipping a nail. I hope to someday be the only person you want delivering your sports news. My FI and I are the loving parents of three Labrador Retrievers (one of each color) and are planning a "Southern Romantic Charm" wedding in the beautiful, historic city of Savannah. I'm not extreme in anything except moderation... and wedding planning.
About Mrs. Labrador

I’m So Official.

July 27th, 2010 @ 4:47 pm by Mrs. Labrador

We interrupt these Labrador recaps to bring you some breaking news.

This gal is officially OFFICIAL.

Yes ladies (and gentlemen who may have gotten lost on their way to the sports boards), nearly 9 months after my wedding, I finally changed my name.

I am now a “Golden Girl”. Betty White, you’re no longer alone!

So what took so long?

See, what had happened was… all the same things that are keeping me from being on top of my recaps. You know, finishing school, getting a job, moving, buying a house… that sort of thing.

Oh yeah, that reminds me! We bought a house!!! And we’ve been busy “working” on the house.

After:

I have a lot more to share about our new dwelling, but for now here’s a little taste of our 4th of July housewarming party:

The Labrador “children” getting their patriotic on in the front yard!

Anyhoo, the actual process of changing my name wasn’t as horrible as I thought it would be. I used MissNowMrs to fill out all my forms (using a coupon I found for half off). Then I spent an hour and 15 minutes waiting in the social security office just to spend 5 minutes at the actual counter changing my name. Apparently I was the most prepared person of the day? Why the heck would anyone visit any government office and NOT be prepared?!?

Then I headed over the DMV to update my license along with Mr. Lab (who was updating his with our new address). Same story: waiting… waiting… waiting… done in 5 minutes. I even updated my voter registration while I was at it.

All that’s left is mailing off all my forms to notify various companies (like my bank) of my name/address change (really, the only reason to use MissNowMrs because they automate those forms for you).

So yeah, I’m officially official now. Some people grow humans in the amount of time it took me to change my name, but hey, it’s finally done! I’m proud and Mr. Lab is even prouder. :)

Anyone else take forever to change their name?

I’ve changed for most things - some things i’ve been told don’t matter (such as our mortgage). I actually changed it with SS and BMV back in April (wedding was in June) - but we were LEGALLY married in April 2009…so TECHNICALLY I waited a year - but that was because no one knew we were married!
One thing I didn’t like, though, here in Indy - the BMV has to SEND you your new license because everything has to go through homeland security now!
But I am Mrs. H_____ and no longer Miss B________. :D
I was so excited to change and so happy that I did!

What a beautiful house!
As an aside, you may want to black out your DOB in the photo of your driver’s license above - your name and DOB combo is personal identifying info you may not want in the hands of unscrupuleous people trolling the web.

Aww, congrats on the wonderful house! It’s gorgeous! And I’m always so happy to see a post from you. :-) Wishing you lots of luck, joy, love and laughter in your new life!

PS - It took me about 6 months to change my name. And then when I finally did it, I changed my name in some places and not others, and couldn’t remember which place had my maiden name or married name… was such a gong show. I highly recommend people Do Not do it the way I did… ;-)

Aw, hive…thank you for being a friend. ;)

@Mrs. Trail Mix: It really does make you wonder why it takes sooooo long with all those computers doing things at lightning speed. Someone should do an investigative reporting piece on the agonizing slowness of government offices….

@JuneBride_26June2010: My license is actually paper right now. They send the plastic one in the mail now I guess?

@Hilary: I’m technically a “public figure” as a reporter, so my DOB isn’t as big a deal as it would be to most people.

@Kate: I hear ya! I’m trying my best to get out as many notifications all together as possible!

Was it hard changing your name that long after the wedding? I kept my name and am considering the change- I’ve heard it’s a nightmare though.

“Why would anyone attend a government office and not be prepared?” You crack me up. This is the question I ask myself EVERY day at work.

@JuneBride_26June2010: We also did that… we got married last weekend and will not have our actual wedding until November. I am changing my name early though.
