Canoe Lust

July 27th, 2010 @ 10:33 am by Mrs. Sand Dollar

Mr. SD and I love the outdoors. The first joint purchase we made was a canoe, and we’ve trekked it around to lakes and rivers all over central Texas. After seeing images like this, I’m dreaming up ways of incorporating our canoe into the wedding reception.

How awesome would it be to serve drinks from our canoe?! I have to have this. We were thinking of buying galvanized tubs, but this would be so much cheaper (and easier to wrangle than 10 separate tubs). I’m trying to talk Mr. SD into going ahead with this, but he’s afraid all the ice will melt. Southern Texas is hot, y’all, and crazy muggy. But his idea is to just borrow a bunch of ice chests. Stained, ugly, gross ice chests. How tacky is that? I’m gonna get me my canoe bar, if it’s the last thing I do.

Are you incorporating anything unique into your reception? What is it?

You get your canoe bar lady! I would put out an APB among your family and friends and see who has a canoe, then borrow it! I’ve totally seen this done on SMP or Once Wed or something like that, too. Doooooo it!

I am incorporating something unique into our reception but it’s a secret till I post it. A hint: Hello Kitty!

I saw the canoe bar and loved it too; however, we’re going with galvanized buckets for sodas in glass bottles. I love that they’re so special to you.
As for what we’re adding, well, I guess that’s the tandem bike we’re riding away on.

Why don’t you put the coolers IN the canoe?? Then you still get the look you’re going for but the ice will stay for longer??

Melt-schmelt. At least one of the canoe bars pictured above doesn’t have much in the way of ice at all. Maybe borrow the coolers, stash them in an out of sight location and assign one of the more responsible groomsmen the task of periodically replenishing supplies?

@Mrs. Trail Mix: Brilliant! Maybe we could even just go without tops on the ice chest, it would help the look, and keep the ice cold.

@teaadntoast: I love this suggestion too! Sounds like we could have boys do refills on ice and drinks all night.

This is why I love you guys!

You could have a layer of dry ice in the very very bottom where people won’t accidentally touch it (or under a layer of fabric or plastic). That should reduce the number of ice refills you need to do.

But the bottom line here, and what we all agree on, is you need the canoe bar. It’s WAY too cool.

Oh man, this reminds me of something on Improv Everywhere…they did an ‘Offshore Gambling’ canoe in Central Park. I’d post the link, but I don’t think that’s allowed. Hilarious!

Love this! How cool, and it totally plays hommage to who you are as a couple. I would line the bottom of the canoe with a heavy tarp or something plastic to insulate.

Will the water damage the inside of the canoe? I love the idea of sitting coolers inside of it. Hey, you can probably get low sitting coolers and decorate around them so you can’t even see em.

Very cute inspirational photos-plus it’s cheap decor, since you already own the canoe!

I think it would be really cute to turn your canoe into some kind fo photo booth… like have people pretend like they are rowing for pictures and maybe have some kind of nature-y backdrop behind it?

We did this, but with a rowboat. It turned out great and was seriously a hit. People just loved it. Tell Mr. SD all the cool people are doing it!

I can send a pics if you’re interested.
