I’m a Coke Addict

I'm a Coke Addict : wedding diet health houston Cokebetter cokebetter

(source)

A Coca-Cola addict! I’ve been chugging this stuff since pre-k, and it’s only gotten worse with age. I’m talking a four-a-day habit, guys. I’m a hardcore user. One thing that really burns my biscuits about the wedding machine is how they almost force brides to try to be their thinnest on their wedding day. Now, I have no problems with presenting a healthy, beautiful you, but since when do we have to hit the gym five days a week for just one day? I don’t think it’s fair, and though I thoroughly applaud those of you who have the discipline and commitment to achieve those goals, I’m 100% fine with the way I look. It’s the exact same way I looked when Mr. SD proposed, and that’s who he’ll see walking down the aisle.

So what’s the point of this post? Health, ladies! Though I don’t want to ramp up a crazy workout regimen, I do want to start making better choices about what I consume. Last week I decided to quit Cokes (and other sodas) cold turkey, and see how it goes. And guess what? I lost three pounds in three days. THREE POUNDS! I don’t say this to brag, quite the contrary. Can you even imagine how much soda I was drinking if the lack of it depletes 9000 calories from a three-day eating routine? Holy cannoli, I was bad. Slap me on the wrist please! Though the drop has bottomed out since then, I’m hoping to maintain it by abstaining from sodas and hopefully kicking the habit. Then maybe I can reintroduce this liquid catnip by only indulging a few times a week. I can handle that. I hope.

Has your wedding inspired you to make healthier life choices? What have you improved in your life?

I feel terrible that I haven’t really had a regimen. I was so good at the beginning - doing Nutrisystem and losing lbs. Now I think I’ve gained more weight than when I started! And I can’t wait to eat my freaking cake! AHHH! My man loves me for who I am, not for being someone who agonizes over every little thing wrong with her body - as long as I’m healthy I think I’ll stop worrying about it. :)

I quit cold turkey January 1st this year for my New Years resolution and to get healthier for my wedding in September! Haven’t had a drop since! Good luck to you!! You can do it!

I also am a Coca-Cola addict… (lol, saying a coke addict just sounds WRONG). I tried to quit… I failed miserably. My second attempt was better, and by that I mean, I replaced regular Coke with Diet Coke. I feel as though it’s a better calorie replacement, but it just isn’t quite the goal I had in mind.

It’s been about 4 months and when I see someone drink a Coke or even a Pepsi out of a can… I start to drool. It’s pretty bad.

Keep up the good work though!

I just ‘quit’ coke (for the second time). I did it a while back and then started up again when I moved to be with my SO…. It has really gotten out of hand again, so no more empty calories for me! No more coke for me. Period! Water and alchohol only, ha!

I quit diet coke for a week leading into my first fitting with the understanding it would reduce any bloat :-) But, um, 15 minutes after the fitting was over, I was quickly reacquainted with my old friend.
I’m planning the same attack method for my second fitting and the wedding. Cut carbonation and salty snacks to reap short term benefits, then enjoy them after the day is over.
So, in short, no lifelong changes happening here! (I do already work out religiously, so I figure minor, temporary changes are a.o.k).

That’s great that you decided to quit the cokes! Just FYI though… the sodium in the soda was probably causing you to retain more water, and when your sodium intake decreases, you lose water weight. It’s a fun trick!

no more french fries :( my fave food, i already miss them. i DO want to look great in my dress, but if that’s the impetus I need to make better choices, that’s fine.

This is SO my life!
I’ve tried to quit drinking Coke at least twice a year since forever. And when I tried the only-have-it-a-couple-times-a-week kick, I failed miserably. But you know, I love it. It’s my favorite drink. And I’m gonna keep on drinkin it (and cut out other unhealthy things instead!) Congrats on your self control - You’ve clearly got much more than me!

I haven’t had soda in almost 16 years! I quit, thinking I’d have no will-power to stick to it, and turns out it was easier than I thought… Thankfully I love juices and water!

Ugh I can’t stand soda, I almost exclusively drink Green Tea and water, and beer. We eat healthy for the most part, although I really do need to do more with myself since about 95% of the day is spent sitting either on my couch or at work :/

I am convinced that they put something in Coke to addict you. I never used to drink it but my SO like you is an addict and got me hooked. I seriously had to stop cold turkey as well. And I have bad news for you, you won’t be able to have the occasionally one. It’s a slippery slope I tell ya!

I had gastric bypass surgery three years ago from this saturday. I was a mountain dew and carb addict. I lost 95 pounds and have maintained at 148 pounds. I can’t seem to quit the carbs but I have touched a soda since July 28, 2007 (3 years ago today!!!) It’s serious what that does for you. Image if I could control my carbs???? Everyone asks when I’m going to eat better and work out for the wedding. I tell them the dress is being made to me, I’m not being made to the dress and the FH already loves me for me. As long as I don’t start packing the weight on, I’m happy…

I was at my heaviest weight when my husband proposed, and I wasn’t happy with how I felt or looked. I used the wedding as a motivator to look and feel better. But more than looking good on my wedding day, I just wanted to be a happy and healthy person for my husband. I lost 30 lbs before the wedding and have kept up with the exercise routine since the wedding. For me, I looked at the wedding as an extra motivator, but not the ultimate reason for losing weight. :-)

Mr. Cardigan drinks tons of cokes too! He switched from coke to diet coke a few years back and lost TWENTY POUNDS. Insanity!

I finally quit cold turkey as a larger lifestyle change. The high fructose corn syrup in regular Coke, the aspartame in Diet and the bpa used to line the aluminum cans scared me away forever!

good idea, and much better for your teeth too! My sister is also a raging Coke addict and has had multiple cavities and a couple root canals as a result. It’s tons harder to keep those pearlies nice and clean when you’re sugar-bathing them all day long. (she eventually switched to using straws - haha! she just couldn’t give it up!)

I had to give up my diet sodas because I think the aspartame was giving me bad headaches…and I’m so thankful I did! Definitely have fewer headaches these days, but I still wish after the sodies aisle at the grocery store sometimes. Once in a while, for a treat, I’ll have a Fitz’s rootbeer–that’s a local St. Louis brand–it’s made with natural cane sugar instead of high fructose corn syrup, and no caffeine! Good luck with cutting back!!

I’m not a huge fan of soda, but when I do drink one I usually go with Coke Zero. It’s tasty!
