I’ve been sure about who I was going to ask to be my flower girl for quite some time and couldn’t be more excited to ask her. Anna is the daughter of a loving couple who I nannied for during my college years. Since I have stayed in the area, I’ve continued to be a part of their lives and have watched six-month-old Anna transform into a five-year-old mini-person (and now big sister).

Because she means so much to me, I wanted to make sure asking her to be my flower girl would be a memorable event, something she could recall in years to come.
So I put my thinking cap on (or sat in my thinking chair…too much Blue’s Clues?) and did my best to think of an original poem to write in a card. I am not the world’s greatest poet, and we all know that grammar is not my strong suit, but I did my best and created this poem (which I just noticed I messed up—hopefully she won’t noticed the misplaced “…” that should come before “we ask”):

And because a card just isn’t enough, I added a handmade headband:

And lastly, an aerial shot of the front of the card:

Both the card and the headband are handmade, and both were quick and easy projects. I used lace trim and craft felt to create the headband and will hopefully have time to post a DIY tutorial on it soon.
The card was an easy project as well. I simply adhered the fancy-print paper to heavy card stock using spray adhesive, and trimmed to size. I created the detailed border using the same border punch from our save-the-date project, and the flowers were attached with mini-brads (from my scrapbooking supplies). I stuffed the whole thing in an envelope and sent it on its way.
I made sure to ask her parents first to make sure my asking her would not create a conflict (a five-year-old tantrum would be no fun!). Fortunately, both of them are honored to have Anna be part of our wedding, and neither of them could wait for me to ask her myself (in my own way). And a few days later, I received an e-mail with the picture below from her mom saying that Anna was so excited to get my card and that she couldn’t wait to be my flower girl.
