Cut for a Cause

Cut for a Cause : wedding hair norfolk Dsc0253 DSC0253

Some observant readers noticed my haircut back when I said farewell, so today I came back to give you the skinny on my new ‘do. For this go around, I actually blow dried it with a round brush and everything. Then I put on some makeup.

With such a drastic change from my wedding photographs, I wanted to update all of my social media profiles with a fresh photo. I coerced Lambster into snapping a few head shots so that I could hem and haw about how none of them really look like me, why my left eye is so squinty, and if I should start wearing darker lipstick.

People keep asking me if I was sick of my long hair. The truth is that I’m just not a hair person. I’m not the girl who spent an hour blow drying and curling it through high school. I’m the girl who throws it all in a pony tail. Short hair has its perks, like using less shampoo. Hair just doesn’t matter that much to me. So about a month ago, I walked into a salon, sat in the chair of a stylist I’d never met, and told her to just cut 12″ inches off. Lamma-ramma-ding-dong came home from work and after 10 minutes of talking about his day at work, finally noticed and said, “What did you do to your hair?” A real romantic, no?

This wasn’t my first covert hair cut. When I studied abroad, I cut my hair right before coming home without telling anyone. Then later, I cut it again after moving to the beach. I’ve donated all three ponytails to Locks of Love. To me, it’s not really about a post wedding chop, shocking people, or preferring a certain length of hair. It’s about participating in a circle of giving that costs me nothing and means everything to a child.

Are you a hair person? Have you donated hair for a cause?

I also donate ever 1.5-2years. Last time I did a 14″ braided ponytail. Having a mother whom suffered from Cancer and not being able to afford a wig (chemo, bone marrow transplants, doc’s, etc. are buco bucks!!), seeing her with a wig and the confidence boost means the world. Plus, seriously, what am I going to do with 14″ of thick straight hair?

Thanks for doing this!

I donated mine once, my senior year of college after (sadly) saying goodbye to many years of cheerleading (and needing a long ponytail) to focus on my education degree. I donated to Pantene Beautiful Lengths, which is also a wonderful organization. They will accept donations of 10″ or more. :) I love your cute cut!

as a person who wears wigs every day due to alopecia universalis - i applaud you in donating your hair. wigs are SUPER expensive, and honestly both when i had cancer and most recently with my current chronic illness, i dont know what i would do without my crowning glory. i thank God every day there are women out there willing to give up their hair so i can have some! :)

I’ve donated once so far to Locks of Love, about a year and a half ago. I’m growing my hair out now for the wedding and will likely do another donation after the wedding is over- both because I loved donating and because I haven’t had a bob in years and I’m itching to try it out again. My FI’s never seen me with hair shorter than my shoulders!

I love the hair cut! I’ve never grown my hair long enough to donate to Locks of Love, but maybe after the wedding, because it’s definitely past my shoulders! :)

Looking lovely, pretty lady! I donated mine to Beautiful Lengths a few years ago and I would do it again in a second, if/when I cut my hair short again

I’ve donated to Locks of Love several times. Another donation is my motivation for growing my hair out for the wedding. I don’t have my heart set on a complex hair style or anything for the wedding, so it’s quite possible I’ll do a PreWC instead of a PWC. We shall see. Either way, it will be almost 2 years of growth at that point, so it should make for quite a nice donation. I can’t wait to have shorter hair again!

You look great! I have donated 3 times to Locks of Love too - 15 inches is my record. I love doing it - I literally feel lighter and so fresh after chopping off all my heavy hair! Also it’s really the only change my hairstyle ever gets :)

I chopped my hair 2 years ago after my sister’s wedding. I tried to donate it but it was a couple inches too short.

I’ve donated twice to Locks of Love, and next time I’ll be donating to Beautiful Lengths. Good for you for donating. You are gorgeous, inside and out.
