About Mrs. Starfish

Starfish Mom wanted to do something special before Mr. Starfish and I say, “I do.” So, one weekend in May, she took me and Sister Starfish on a girls’ weekend to Kennebunkport, ME. We took Friday off and headed up Maine’s coastline.

The weekend was filled with shopping, laughing, movies, great food and lots of quality time.

Starfish Mom even surprised me by sneaking up some of my favorite wedding movies. It worked out well because day 2 of the trip was rainy. We snuck in a few of my favorites over the three day trip. No matter how many times I watch Father of the Bride, I still love it! I don’t think I can ever get sick of that one.

We went to lots of cute shops and some interesting ones, like Woods to Goods, a store where inmates at the Shawshank Prison make items out of wood, which are sold in the store. Our innkeeper said it’s a popular place to purchase wedding gifts—the wooden salad bowls being the most popular. They are great conversation pieces, for sure.

I thought it would be in the shape of a cake or look like one, but I think it has its reputation due to the amazing detail of the outside of the house, similar to the intricate detail of a wedding cake. I have never seen a house like it. She was told she had to go to Flo’s, who allegedly has the best hot dogs ever.

It’s definitely a special occasion place; if anyone’s doing a minimoon in Kennebunkport, it’s such a romantic place and it was the best meal I’ve ever had.

Overall, the weekend was great, despite the weather. It was fun to have some non-wedding planning bonding time with Starfish Mom and Sister Starfish. It was relaxing and fun.

Did you have any special bonding time with your mom before the wedding?

We took my Mom to dinner at the White Barn for Mother’s Day a few years ago and I still dream about that meal - it was fantastic!

Ohmygoodness! I LOVE Kennebunkport! My family used to vacation in Goose Rocks Beach every summer! The pics of the wedding cake house brought back so many memories! Did you see the old clock farm?
What a great idea for a getaway!

What a great idea by your mom; this looks like it was a fun trip. We go to Flo’s every time we visit my fiance’s mom and now that we’ve moved, she ships us Flo’s sauce every couple of months!

Aww that’s sweet! I hope my mom and I get some bonding time in. I haven’t seen her in a while (living in Japan and all…) but really all we do is fight. Since she’s our florist I think we’ll have a few explosions. Le sigh…

What a darling idea — a gal’s trip with your mom and sis! Unfortunately, I live on the opposite coast from my mom and sis, so I don’t get to see them too often. And my last couple of west-coast visits were pretty jam-packed with wedding appointments, so there wasn’t a lot of room in the schedule for quality time. Such a bummer! :-/

You should definitely feel lucky you got to spend this time with them!
