Mrs. Husky's Picture
Mrs. Husky, Denver Age and Occupation: 26, Systems Administrator Fiance's Age and Occupation: 32, Mechanical Engineer, recently laid off Engagement Date: August 14, 2009 Wedding Date: October 2010 Venue: Rancho San Carlos About Me: I am planning a quirky-crafty wedding with my recently out-of-work fiancé for a (fingers crossed!) warm October afternoon. We are two self-professed nerds with an affinity for all things outdoors---be it rain, snow or shine. Recently relocated from the drizzly Northwest, we're enjoying the many sun-soaked days in the mile high city. Our day will be filled with both of our large families and friends, a self-served Cajun feast, and a Zydeco-style jazz band rocking beneath the beams of a historic red barn.
About Mrs. Husky

Just Dance

July 29th, 2010 @ 4:56 pm by Mrs. Husky

Immediately after hearing our band play, I was hooked. Not only did they sound great, but they would provide their own sound system, and even compose a version of our first dance song in their style.

I’ve never heard our song done in the Zydeco-style, so I will instead share the music video for the original:

*tear*

It’s not the typical love song, I know. But the Husk and I have a sentimentality toward that song, and it was the obvious choice for our first dance. The tempo will pick up a bit, and the sound will be jazzy and full of brass.

We’ve decided to combine and shorten the father/daughter and mother/son dance into one event. Our band will perform “What a Wonderful World,” and it will be Daddy Husky and I on the dance floor, as well as Mr. Husky and his mom, for about the first half of the song. Then the band will up the tempo midway through, and invite everyone else out to join us. We decided to do it this way for several reasons.

  • We don’t want people to get bored. Our first dance will be after dinner, and the “parental dances” will follow. I’m sure our guests will be bored with watching us dance - especially since none of us are really very good at it!
  • My dad is easily winded, and I don’t want him to feel pressured to stand up and sway with me for the full duration of the song. As other folks fill the dance floor, my father will be able to step off whenever he needs to.

What song will you dance to for your first dance? Will it be in a different style than the original? How did you choose which song to use?

Since our second band fell through with less than 3 weeks to the wedding, we have no ideas about anything. Aaak!

That is awesome, I love non-traditional dance songs. Ours will be “Sweetest Thing” by U2 as it is ‘our’ song. I was recently at a wedding where the processional song was an instrumental version of “All I Want Is You” by U2 and it was lovely. It brought a tear to my eye and a friend’s eye as well. It really got me thinking that maybe for my beach wedding I will forego Cannon in D or Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring for a less traditional song. Good thing I have a lot of time to think about it.

That’s our song too! We had to spend 6 months away from each other about 8 months into seeing each other. We both love bright eyes. During the time he was gone I was addicted to ‘the first day of my life’ and then one day (without knowing I was listening to it daily) he sent me a letter in hit he had wrote the lyrics to ‘the first day of my life :-D Throughout the years I’ve heard other songs that I thought were very pretty and fitting for us but nothing could ever compare to that one.

This is the song FI asked to be our first dance song. I’m kinda hesitant since it’s a tearjerker for me, and I don’t think many of our guests will know it. But it’s so sweet!!

That’s our first dance too!! I love that song, and it’s just upbeat enough and short and sweet enough not to be boring- I wouldn’t worry about that :)

AND we’re inviting everyone up for the 2nd song, What a Wonderful World!! I’d say it’s a small world…

I just LOVE this song! Bright Eyes has been my FI’s favorite since before I met him. We’ve joked that we’ll choose ‘A Perfect Sonnet’ for our first dance.

That was our first dance song too. Our DJ also inadvertantly played it during dinner, but I don’t think anyone noticed other than my husband. It was on the first mix CD I ever made him, for our six-monthiversary.

I LOVE this song, too! My FI played it for me one night and it was so incredibly sweet. We did the long distance thing for 2.5 years, so we love the part about driving all night. It’s definitely one of our first-dance song contenders right now. It’s between that and “Happy As The Sun” by Tyrone Wells, which is a bit more upbeat. They’re both very unique and very “us”.

We’re having a friend play this song during our ceremony. I have to try not to cry every time I hear it. I love it so much!

The day I left to finish my Graduate degree, my FI made a CD…this was the first song on the CD and I cried the whole 2.5 hour drive.
Needlesstosay it has now become our song.

I love, love, love.

Husky! I have to comment, I’ve paid attention to your posts over the last few months but I’m just now catching up on all of them, we are “day twins” and doing a lot of similar things! I love it! I thought about First Day of My Life being our recessional, but my FI wanted to have some part in planning music so I let him decide and he chose Love and Some Versus. We’re going to incorporate this song into the seating music.

We are also doing a combined M&S, F&D song to wonderful world (Willie Nelson version) AND we are Northwesterners (me more recently then my FI). Anyway I just love the similarities and your posts make me smile. I’m going to continue reading now :-)
