A Rose by Any Other Name…

July 29th, 2010 @ 6:01 pm by Miss Earrings

If the lavender in our floral arrangements represents devotion, fidelity and luck, then how about some roses for love, sweetness and passion? It’s a pretty good combination, I think. :)

I mentioned here that we will be doing our reception centrepieces ourselves. Originally, we thought we would just use lavender, but after deciding on what sort of bouquet I wanted (which I have delegated to our florist), the idea of using roses in those centrepieces started to perk up its head.

First, let’s talk about my bouquet. I never thought about our wedding much until things got serious with Mr E, but one thing I did know from childhood is that I’ve wanted roses in my bouquet. The idea is to have a combination of white, pale pink, and dusty mauve/purple roses interspersed with greenery and (of course) lavender. I’m going for a more “natural” and hand-tied, rather than structured look. These pics might give you a general idea of what I think of when I try to imagine what I want the bouquet to look like:

Yes, yes, I know that most of these bouquets don’t have just roses, only lavender, but that’s what I meant by “general” idea. Plus, the peony one has gorgeous lace wrapped around its stems, and I just cant resist that.

Mr E’s buttonhole will hopefully come out something like the rosebud one in the centre of this pic:

And I plan to make the groomsmen’s buttonholes somewhat like the ones flanking it. Adding a tiny bit of lace wrapped around the stems of those would be cool, too.

So… what about the roses for the centrepieces?

We’re planning to order them from a wholesaler and assemble them with some bits and pieces from the garden and the lavender the day before the wedding. These are the roses we are hoping to get our hands on:

(Yeah, pretty much I just love the names of roses… I think that is my only reason for making you read them.)

And hopefully, with a bit of muddling around with the various floral bits and pieces, our arrangements can come out looking something like this:

Anyone else having a go at their own floral centrepieces? Are you going the wholesale route for your flowers?

I never thought of that combination, but I love it. They look so romantic and innocent together.

Lovely! I like the hand-tied and gathered look too. The rose/lavender combo has nice texture. I really thought I’d do my own centerpieces, but alas we’ve outsourced it for convenience. I can’t wait to see how yours turn out!

Oooo! I love those bouquets. We are DIYing our flowers too but then again my mom is a florist. We want to have lots of roses too!

Much to my dismay, due to allergies I have had to go down the silk flower route. These ideas gave me some though… thanks!

Love roses -other than potted orchids for centerpieces (and my bouquet -a tiny hand-tied bouquet of lily of the valley from Growers Box), all of the other bouquets incl. my toss and bouts were red and white (ivory actually, but looked white) roses! SO classic and timeless, plus always in season and pretty cheap!

The top image actually belongs to me and was featured on Once Wed & not Style Me Pretty, back in January. Would you mind terribly linking back to my website instead? Thank you! Pretty bouquet, isn’t it?
