Mrs. Locket's Picture
Mrs. Locket, Ithaca, NY Age and Occupation: 25, Research Technician Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28, former Banker hoping to become an Officer of the Law Engagement Date: June 15, 2009 Wedding Date: September 2010 Venue: Heron Hill Winery About Me: I am a little bit of everything all rolled into one: A girly gal with rough edges---I love to get dolled up just as much as I enjoy throwing on some sneaks to toss a ball with Mr. Locket. My love for crafting and creating is quite apparent and I've been referred to as a Wonder Woman/Martha Stewart/Stepford Wife hybrid (yup, I'll take that as a compliment). I adore sewing, photography, sculpture, good eats (mmm tapas), baking, snugging and oh, pretty much everything in between (there's not much I dislike). I am super excited to be planning our vineyard wedding and couldn't be happier to be marrying Mr. Locket. We are a quirky, fun-loving couple residing in our college town with our two pups Maple and Molly. We love to go on hikes, visit our local dog park and to bask in the beauty of many of the local falls and gorges. We are an indecisive pair, but together we somehow manage to make up our minds (it's the easy stuff that's tricky).

Venue Revisited…

July 29th, 2010 @ 1:33 pm by Mrs. Locket

…and I am still in love!

Many weeks ago (months after our initial visit) Mr. L and I decided to take another trip to our wedding venue, Heron Hill Winery. I was a combination of nervous and excited because I always think of the worse case scenarios.

What if I didn’t like it anymore? What if it wasn’t as stunning as I remembered? What if I didn’t like the new event coordinator?

Fortunately, all my worries went out the door as we pulled up to the entrance and I saw it again in all its glory:

(Ignore the barren field, that will be filled with new vines soon)

Walking up to the main entrance I got that tingly and giddy feeling that you get when you realize: I AM GETTING MARRIED, and it’s going to be here and to this man!

The entrance (smile Mr. Locket, you’re on camera!):

I “oohed” and “ahhed” as we entered the tasting room where our guests will enjoy an hour of complimentary wine tasting, post ceremony.

Tasting room (love the ceiling):

And, of course the teeny bopper in me got super excited about the “Eclipse” wine (Stephanie Myers, I blame you and your Twilight series):

When we stepped out back I daydreamed about having some lovely bridal shots in this very spot (I love that you can see the lake from here):

En route to the tent we passed our ceremony site and I snapped a picture of where our guests will be seated (there will also be flowers in the terraces and chairs for our guests’ derrieres).

Ceremony site:

We made it to the tent (they had just set it up for the season) which will be fully equipped with tables, chairs and lighting the day of the wedding.

Next we followed the route (in reverse) that we will travel for the ceremony and ended up at the “tower” where it will all begin.

The Tower (where the bride and her girls will wait pre-ceremony)

Doing my best “I’m a cute bride” pose:

All in all the visit was a success in reaffirming my original belief that this was and is the perfect place to be married. The intro with the new coordinator, Kara went very well and we both think that she will be a great help to us on and leading up to our wedding day. Another plus is that she will be especially insightful when it comes to planning a wedding at Heron Hill because she will be getting married there in early September too. We left with happy hearts, eager minds, and general satisfaction.

How many times did you visit your venue? Were you ever worried you might not like it on second glance? What are the favorite things about your venue?

We got married in the groom’s parents’ back yard, so you’d think we’d have a good grasp of the site, right? Only it’s 500+ miles away, so…not so much. I had all these ideas in my head, tent here, ceremony there, blah blah blah, and then we’d go visit and…how long has that tree been there?!

Oh my goodness! My cousin got married at that exact spot last summer. It’s a really beautiful (and FUN!) setting! Love it :)

Oh perfection Miss L! I stalk my venue. I haven’t in a while honestly… but I drove by it and walked around the grounds a lot after booking. It keeps getting better and better!
And I ♥ the Twilight references today

Love that your venue is a vineyard in the Finger Lakes!!! We wanted to have ours at Bully Hill…our favorite vineyard…but was just not practical to have everyone drive 2 1/2 to 3 hours.

@Mrs. Trail Mix: I am a huge fan of the included wine tasting and am really hoping it will help cut back on cocktail hour costs!

@pdescenza: that’s awesome that your cousin was married there! It is a great location!
@Miss Thimble: I know right hahaha! I didn’t realize the existence of so many bee fans!
@upstatebroad: I heard that Bully Hill was on the same wine path, but haven’t been. The drive from Ithaca to our venue is about an hour or so (which I’ve driven to weddings as a guest so I figured it wasn’t so bad)

It’s gorgeous! We’re getting married at a vineyard and I needed another visit, so we went a few months back. I’m taking my mom next weekend–can’t wait! (ps–I’m not really into Twilight, but the first thing I thought when I saw that picture was “wow, they have Twilight inspired wine!” lol)

Beautiful venue!

My favorite thing about my venue: August 16 I will never deal with those lying, deceitful people ever again! And it does have a great view.

@Violet Violet: I don’t actually think the wine was twilight inspired since I think it was around before the twilight craze..though I am sure it’s bound to happen sooner or later!
@TheFutureMcBride: did your original choice mess up the date? I am confused.
