About Mrs. Starfish

Shoe Love

July 29th, 2010 @ 1:10 pm by Mrs. Starfish

Shoes haven’t really been a priority on my wedding to-do list. I wear flip flops at the first sign of spring and wear them until the first sign of winter. When it came to shoes for the wedding, I kind of just assumed I’d wear flats or flip flops. Starfish Mom and Sister Starfish are the complete opposite of me with shoes—they love them, especially heels. They told me I have to wear heels. I said, “we’ll see.”

When the dress came in, I tried it on and…. it was too long. I know I could get it hemmed, but my favorite part of the dress is the beautiful detail on the bottom (I would show this, but I’m keeping my dress a surprise until the wedding day). I can’t bear cutting it off. So, Sister Starfish and Starfish Mom are getting their wish… I’ll begrudgingly wear heels on our wedding day.

I’ve looked and looked for shoes, but nothing sparked my interest, until I browsed the Neiman Marcus website and found these amazing heels from Guiseppe Zanotti:

Shoe Love : wedding newport shoes Dress

They are so gorgeous and would look so fun with a short after party dress! I absolutely love them. I thought for a second that I found my shoes… until I saw the price tag, and it’s just not happening. Now I compare every shoe I find to these. This is a typical trait of mine. I find something I love, but completely out of my price range and fixate. It’s the reason why I couldn’t look at dresses at Priscilla of Boston and the reason I should have known to stay away from Neiman Marcus.

Now it’s back to the search.

Are there any other brides who fixate on items out of your budget? What was the biggest disappointment you experienced when it came to price?

Those are gorgeous shoes! I am sorry that they are out of your price range. I am guilty of falling in love with shoes way out of my budget. I broke down and bought them because I am so frugal about everything else. Honestly, I do not regret it.

Yes, those shoes are gorgeous but looking at them from a practical stand point the little tiny strap would probably dig into your toe (ouch!) and the thin stilleto heel would probably be a bother to stand on all night long. I am sure you will find a pair that makes you swoon just as much, will be just as pretty and will be easier to wear for hours on end.

Everything I fixate on is out of my budget, and I end up buying it anyway. So you should be very proud that you’re strong enough to resist!!

You might want to check out Calvin Klein married (http://www.zappos.com/calvin-klein-married-silver-satin).

They are similar in many ways to these shoes you posted (though shorter heels and they look less elegant in comparison, but at a fraction of the price). I just bought these as my wedding shoes and love them…look great in person. Plus if you like flip flops they are basically like high heeled flip flops, which I’m hoping will mean fewer sore spots and more comfort.

ugh I fell in love with a pair of yellow Manolos that totally matched my yellow vintage wedding perfectly and they were way out of my price range as well =\ hopefully with a little luck and the internetz you’ll come across something else you love almost as much!

May I just caution you about wearing heels unless you are used to them… or make yourself get used to them well in advance. Well well in advance.

I don’t wear heels normally. I wore them to a wedding this spring and was surprisingly quite comfortable during the event, even while dancing (yay for comfy heels, wow). However, I woke up around 6am the next morning because I was in such writhing pain I could no longer sleep. Not my feet… my KNEES. I honestly have never been in worse pain, and I am including the times I tore a ligament or broke a bone.

You stand differently in heels, and without the knees being used to such a posture, apparently it’s very easy to do them in. Just something to watch out for if you haven’t really worn heels before.

I’d planned to wear heels at my wedding. I don’t plan on it anymore.

Those are beautiful, but there are so many shoe options out there - I’m sure you’ll find something you love!!

Starfish, if your dress has a seam at or around the waist, a seamstress can shorten it there. She doesn’t need to cut the bottom at all - this is totally standard procedure.

@dpham67: Those arethe closest I’ve seen, I’ll have to look into those. Thanks so much! :)
@Jessie: I had no idea, and when we picked up the dress, the consultant didn’t mention this when I talked about the shoes and not shortening it. I’ll have to look into this as well. Thanks! :)

@jordynrose: I’m super frugal too, but unfortunately I didn’t budget much for shoes, and these are about 30 times my budget, so no room to splurge a little. :(
@animated_librarian: Very true, that does make me feel a little better!
@arborgirl: These are another great option! I love the power of weddingbee, thanks so much! These are definitely an option! :)

Ask around at a few places; it should run you between $60-$120 for the service, depending on how complicated your dress is. It probably goes without saying, but of course if they don’t know what you are talking about right away, run!
