After chatting with all the guests and a few photo shoots, it was time for the main event: opening the gifts. A wedding is one of those times in life when your just so overwhelmed by others’ generosity. Between this and our shower at the shore, we now have a fully stocked kitchen!
You know how we’re having a picnic-y kind of wedding? And how we can’t afford a tent/ marquee so it all will take place in the garden with only trees for cover and a please-God-let-it-be-blue sky arching merrily above?
the sunshine at our venue that I’m hoping for on the day (pic by yours truly)
Yeah well, a few people less optimistic than I have asked: What do we do if it rains? Good question.

You’ve likely spent a bajillion dollars on wedding photography and now you want to hang some of it. But, you’re still out that bajillion dollars, right? There’s no room left in the budget for professional framing. That’s where you come in and do it yourself. I haven’t had many of our wedding prints printed, but I do have TONS of posters that I’ve acquired over the years, and figured now was as good of a time as ever to get them up on the walls.
I acquired my latest poster goody at the Brooklyn Renegade Craft Fair: A Peaceful Traveler print of Minneapolis/St. Paul. I’ve been buying a few posters here and there and never took the initiative to hang them, but today pulled out all my random posters and decided to do something with them. At first I thought I might cover an entire wall in our house with every random poster I have, but after laying them all out, I realized they were too hodgepodge and needed a new plan.
(That Los Angeles poster is SO ’80s but I bought one anyway 10 years ago and never put it up… I fear as the decades go on it will never see the light of day, but oh well.)
Let’s talk about the ceremony music, and how we want it to set the tone for our entire celebration. I want our wedding to be a fun and lighthearted celebration, and I didn’t want to have to wait for the reception for that attitude. So I went about my search for a good processional song, and I stumbled upon this:
Okay, it didn’t start out as a search for the processional song. But when I heard the song, and read about the organization, it seemed so fitting.

Today’s review comes from completelyrandomsally of her florist, Erin Volante Floral & Event Design in Kansas!

Erin is a ROCK STAR! I LOVED my flowers. I had a small budget and a large wedding party, but her work is just gorgeous.
Not many people know this, but I have a secret regarding my proposal. I kinda, sorta, maybe knew it would be coming.
The truth is that about a little over a year ago Mr. Locket called me at work and asked if I would be willing to trade in my promise ring (which he had gotten for me on Christmas, only a few months earlier). The conversation went a little like this:
Me: ” Umm, what! Why? You just got me this ring and I love it!”
Mr. Locket: “Because I found the perfect engagement ring for you and I want to buy it.”
Me: “Uhhhh… are you sure you are ready for that? And, why are you telling me this?” (keep in mind, at this point, Mr L led me to believe he wouldn’t be ready to marry anytime soon)
Mr. Locket: “Well, I am not ready right now, but I might be in 6 months and I don’t want to miss out on the great price the ring is being sold for.”

We had our engagement photos done several months ago, and I really really love them. The only problem? Ever since we got them, they’ve just been sitting around on my computer, not really doing anything.
I mean, sure, I put them on our wedding website. And we’re both using e-photos as profile pictures on Facebook. But, we didn’t really spend all that money on an engagement shoot just to have pretty Facebook photos, right? So, I decided to finally do something about it!
That’s right – I made a photobook! I had been procrastinating on making one, because I just couldn’t decide which company to use…there are so many to choose from, and we all know how I am with making decisions. I figured I’d keep going back and forth forever, and we’d never really end up getting one. But, when we registered at Target a couple of months ago, we got a $20 gift card to Shutterfly. Decision made! Shutterfly it is.
I had a blast making our photobook, and I thought it was nice that I was able to include some of the photos that aren’t necessarily our favorites (meaning they won’t end up on FB or our wedding website) but that we still liked.

Remember when I used to blog here? It’s been awhile. But our 1 year anniversary is coming up on September 5th and I’m determined to finish my recaps before then. I’m getting ahead of myself though, because in order to finish them… I need to actually start them. So I’m going to skip through the madness that happened the week before the wedding and start at the beginning of the wedding weekend… the rehearsal.
I don’t have any pictures of the actual rehearsal, which I think is actually a good thing. Our rehearsal didn’t exactly go smoothly. Lots of people and even more confusion made me a very stressed bride-to-be, and our priest was even more stressed than I was. Let’s just say I was more nervous about the wedding after the rehearsal than I was going into it. In the end we got everything straightened out for the most part and could move on to the more exciting part… dinner!
Our rehearsal dinner took place at my future in-laws’ house. The weather was beautiful and all of the tables were set up outside overlooking the lake.
Success! We finally got a chance to give the Cricut Cake a real test. Learning from our past mistakes, we came into this cake test fully armed. We started with a flat buttercream cake from Wal Mart. Yes, Wal Mart. Their cakes actually don’t taste bad at all. But for the wedding cake, I’ll be going somewhere a bit fancier. The finished product left something to be desired.

Here’s a conversation I had recently:
Octopus: “Bridesmaid/Cousin Katie, can you do me a huuuuuge wedding-related favor? Would you mind checking around with a few different transportation companies to get price quotes on how much it would cost to rent a mini-bus or trolley to pick us girls up before the ceremony, then take the whole bridal party to the reception after the ceremony and portraits are over? We’ll need to get picked up for the ceremony around 3:30, and then it will need to take us to the reception around 6:30, so a total of about three hours.”
BM/C Katie: “Sure, no problem!”
One Week Later
BM/C Katie: “So, I got those quotes for you. The cheapest I could find was $750, and the highest was around $1,000.”
Octopus: “HA HA HA HA HA! Katie, you are so funny. No seriously, what are the REAL rates for three hours’ worth of mini-bus access?”

Confession time. Mr. Sew and I… we like to match.
Okay, maybe it’s not that weird compared to other things we do, like wearing costumes on days that are not Halloween. But we are that couple - the kind that love to show off their “coupleness” with matching colors, patterns, etc. And yes, I give you full permission to gag all you want.
Anyway, I was rummaging around the internet one day and I found this picture:
And I had to have it.

What a productive weekend!! You’ve already heard about my new dress which I’m SO super excited about, but this past weekend also held quite a bit of productivity!
We found and purchased Mr. Socks’ wedding ring! It was a fairly painless process, and he ended up with this very nice, manly, wonderful piece! It’s 14K white gold and we love it! The sample in the store fit him perfectly and it was cheaper than ordering a ring in, so we got to take it home that same-day! The jeweler also steam-cleaned my e-ring and right hand tanzanite ring—I can’t believe how much more they sparkle with his cleaner than they do with my cleaners!
I couldn’t resist a mini-photo shoot with some fresh produce from our garden and a few succulents we have in the kitchen:
