Mrs. Buttons, Clearwater, FL
Age and Occupation: 24, "Working on it"
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28, Financial Services
Engagement Date: June 13, 2009
Wedding Date: May 2010
Venue: Carlouel Yacht Club
About Me: I'm a self proclaimed perfectionist and a professional nomad (seriously, I've lived in TX, WI, MI, FL, NC, and now VA!). I love wine, cooking, curling up with a good book (nerd alert!), spoiling the furbaby, and of course, the wonderful Mr. Buttons! We are planning a lighthearted and whimsical wedding (with a good deal of DIY projects) in Clearwater, Florida, but from a distance of 800 miles away! We are looking forward to sharing our day with our family and friends, and most importantly, starting our lives together as husband and wife!
I already alluded to the fact that when BM L, A, and I drove past the rehearsal dinner location, I thought something looked strange. At that moment, I put it out of my mind, but nevertheless, it kept bugging me.
When we returned to the beach house, my cell phone rang. It was Mommy Buttons, and she had some interesting news. MIL Buttons had arranged with the rehearsal dinner restaurant to drop off the centerpieces on Friday morning so she wouldn’t have to worry about them on Saturday. She had arrived at the restaurant that morning to discover the doors were closed, chained, and padlocked! She had spoken with the manager that Tuesday, only 3 days earlier… and there seemed to be nothing wrong at that time. However, at some point between Tuesday and Friday, the restaurant had closed. And, of course… they hadn’t informed MIL Buttons of this.

Mrs. Husky, Denver
Age and Occupation: 26, Systems Administrator
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 32, Mechanical Engineer, recently laid off
Engagement Date: August 14, 2009
Wedding Date: October 2010
Venue: Rancho San Carlos
About Me: I am planning a quirky-crafty wedding with my recently out-of-work fiancé for a (fingers crossed!) warm October afternoon. We are two self-professed nerds with an affinity for all things outdoors---be it rain, snow or shine. Recently relocated from the drizzly Northwest, we're enjoying the many sun-soaked days in the mile high city. Our day will be filled with both of our large families and friends, a self-served Cajun feast, and a Zydeco-style jazz band rocking beneath the beams of a historic red barn.
I was hoping for ‘Hippopotami’ but my good friend Google tells me it’s ‘Hippopotamuses’. So what does this have to do with the Husky Wedding, you ask? I just had to show you our adorable ”cake” toppers:

(personal photo)
They’re actually vintage salt & pepper shakers that I may or may not have gotten into an eBay bidding war over. They still came out less expensive than a lot of the cake toppers I’ve seen, and we can keep using them after our wedding!
Our goal is to keep our one-time-use purchases to a minimum.

Mrs. Starfish, Boston/Newport
Age and Occupation: 25, Operations Assistant
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 25, Sales
Engagement Date: October 8, 2008
Wedding Date: October 2010
Venue: The Atlantic Beach Club
About Me: I'm a perfectionist who is a planner at heart. I don't do well with surprises. I love planning, crafting, Newport RI, family and friends, and most importantly, Mr. Starfish---all of which will be big components in our October wedding in our favorite little city by the sea.
Mr. Starfish and I are both horrible dancers. Mr. Starfish doesn’t like to dance, and even though I love to, I’m just no good. But, we are really good swayers.
Swaying at our senior commencement ball
A while back we considered doing dance classes, and by we, I mean Sister Starfish and I thought it would be fun to take dance lessons before her wedding last year with our grooms-to-be. Neither of the guys were crazy about the idea, but were more open to doing it if we all did it together.

Mrs. Locket, Ithaca, NY
Age and Occupation: 25, Research Technician
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28, former Banker hoping to become an Officer of the Law
Engagement Date: June 15, 2009
Wedding Date: September 2010
Venue: Heron Hill Winery
About Me: I am a little bit of everything all rolled into one: A girly gal with rough edges---I love to get dolled up just as much as I enjoy throwing on some sneaks to toss a ball with Mr. Locket. My love for crafting and creating is quite apparent and I've been referred to as a Wonder Woman/Martha Stewart/Stepford Wife hybrid (yup, I'll take that as a compliment). I adore sewing, photography, sculpture, good eats (mmm tapas), baking, snugging and oh, pretty much everything in between (there's not much I dislike). I am super excited to be planning our vineyard wedding and couldn't be happier to be marrying Mr. Locket. We are a quirky, fun-loving couple residing in our college town with our two pups Maple and Molly. We love to go on hikes, visit our local dog park and to bask in the beauty of many of the local falls and gorges. We are an indecisive pair, but together we somehow manage to make up our minds (it's the easy stuff that's tricky).
I suppose that a bride really only needs one white dress, but being a bride gives a gal great reason to find as many cute white dresses as possible. There are so many wedding events that a bride needs to plan for, and what better way can she stand out than with a white dress?
So let’s see: we have the rehearsal dinner, the bridal shower, and the bachelorette party. I know, I know… It isn’t necessary for a bride to wear white to all of these events, but if I look good in white and I can find a cute flattering dress, why not?
So, I started my hunt mid-March and in the first round I was lucky to find one adorable dress appropriate for either the shower or the rehearsal dinner. Surprisingly, my super cute find was from Kohls’ junior’s section. It’s by Speechless and you can find it here (though I don’t think it’s available anymore
). I almost didn’t buy it, until I realized it was marked down from $68 to $34, a deal I couldn’t pass up.

Mrs. Earrings, Fresno, CA/ Nelson, New Zealand
Age and Occupation: 20, Student, Wannabe Writer
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 19, Photography Student
Engagement Date: February 14, 2010
Wedding Date: January 2011
Venue: Gardens of the World
About Me: I'm a girl from down under who grew up in Indonesia and I'm marrying a California boy. I'm addicted to all things sweet, have never met a chocolate silk pie than can get the better of me, and have dreams of one day being a fulltime novelist. I go weak in the knees for lace, tea cups, and a beautifully crafted sentence. When I get excited about something (whether it is historical linguistics or the Beatles) I tend to go overboard in research, and planning this wedding is no different. Mr. Earrings is my high school sweetheart, my best friend, and somehow we combine all our quirks into one big happy mess.
Finally. We chose to go the route of hiring a student photographer to take our engagement photos, and then saved money further by having Mr E do all the post-editing. The shoot actually took place in early March, but because of his hectic student schedule Mr E was only able to finish editing them over our winter break.

(Recognize this pic? It is one of the first engagement pics that got edited and I snuck it into my intro post!
)
Part of me wishes we had splurged on a pro, but then the other part of me knows that just wasn’t an option.

Create the honeymoon of your dreams.

Mrs. Mary Jane, Grand Forks, ND
Age and Occupation: 26, Instructional Designer
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Lead Programmer
Engagement Date: February 28, 2009
Wedding Date: September 2009
Venue: City Hall
About Me: I'm a career woman on the surface and a homemaker at heart. I love fast cars and high heels, and my favorite food is cake. Mr. Mary Jane and I are both full-time employees and students, and we just bought our first house. We love to curl up on the couch with buttery popcorn, Sour Patch Kids, and the latest Netflix arrival -- whenever we can get a break from everyday life.
We’re back from our belated Jamaica honeymoon, where we stayed at the fabulous Secrets Wild Orchid resort. And that means it’s time for… honeymoon recaps!
In thinking about my recaps, I’ve decided to write three big posts. The first one will discuss our trip as a whole. The next one will be about the food and restaurants at the resort. And finally, the last one will give my ’formal’ review of the resort*.
Let’s get started, shall we?
Getting There and Getting Settled
Mr. Mary Jane and I woke up at the ass-crack of before-dawn on July 1. Before 5, we were on our way to Fargo to catch our first flight (which was scheduled to depart at 7 AM). We were sleepy, but excited. The day we’d been waiting for had arrived!! At about 6:15 I cheerfully strode into the airport — dragging our luggage behind me — only to be yelled at (yes, yelled) at by the gate agent.

Mrs. Cardigan, Austin
Age and Occupation: 21, Student/Soon-to-be Special Education Teacher
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 20, Student/Soon-to-be Accounting Systems Analyst
Engagement Date: August 16, 2009
Wedding Date: January 2011
Venue: Vintage Villas
About Me: I'm a native Austinite who was raised as a die-hard Aggie. Luckily, I'm a pretty persuasive girl because I managed to convince my high school boyfriend (now fiance!), Mr. Cardigan, to ditch his hardcore Longhorn ways and join me up at A&M, where we currently reside with our adorable dogs, Cullen & Ranger. We're currently planning a bright, cheery wedding with a ridiculous amount of DIY projects that I can't wait to tackle! I love crafting in any form, reading, and margaritas (I think I love them the most!). Organization is what keeps me sane and I love helping others, which is probably why I ended up as an education major. It gets a little chaotic sometimes when you're planning a wedding among all of the papers, projects, finals, and certification exams, but we're having the time of our lives and we can't wait to get started on our journey as husband and wife - and we're so excited to share our wedding with the hive!

I’m not gonna lie: I am NOT a fan of the bouquet toss. Never have been, never will be. I think it’s kind of awkward, and totally embarrassing to have to stand in the middle of the dance floor announcing that you’re single, and then you get to fight with all the other single girls to catch some flowers. I just don’t like it. And even if I did like it, we will have approximately 4 single girls at our wedding, which wouldn’t exactly be the most exciting bouquet toss ever.
I considered doing the whole “give your bouquet to the longest-married woman” thing, but to be honest, I wanted to do something more meaningful with my bouquet.

Mrs. Sand Dollar, Houston
Age and Occupation: 24, Graphic Designer
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 22, Electrical Technician
Engagement Date: January 8, 2010
Wedding Date: September 2010
Venue: MacLean Park
About Me: I'm a domestic diva down to the core. I heart cooking, sewing, baking, decorating and making sure we have a hand-crafted home. The best part about the wedding is I get to incorporate it all! I make sure I put my art degree to good use by screen printing, craft knife cutting, and a whole lotta graphic design. We're having a big-time party on a small-time budget, and I promise to show you a boot-scootin', barbecue-eatin', finger-lickin' good time! Mr. Sand Dollar and I spend most of our time on DIY projects or traipsing around the outdoors with our two pooches Rory and Juno. I'm looking forward to sharing our journey with all of you!

A few weekends ago, Mama and Papa Sand Dollar threw Mr. SD and I a wedding reception in San Marcos. Lake Jackson is nearly a four hour drive away, and my parents didn’t want to ask all their friends to have to drive that far and have to find places to stay. So, their solution was to throw a hometown backyard reception so we could celebrate a little closer to home.

Mrs. Dolphin, Gainesville, FL
Age and Occupation: 24, Graduate Architecture Student
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Interactive Interface Developer
Engagement Date: February 14, 2008
Wedding Date: May 2010
Venue: Plantation Bay Country Club
About Me: I’m currently a Graduate Student at the University of Florida studying Architecture. I enjoy playing Scrabble with my Fiance, rooting for the Florida Gators, making any drink that involves a blender, cleaning (yes... I’m crazy), design... GOOD design that is, the new Pepsi with natural sugar, taking pictures, discovering new places in the U.S., and obsessing over doing (and designing) everything myself for our upcoming wedding!
Where did we leave off? Oh, right…
It is the day of our wedding and I’m slightly hung over.

In short: Daria was the BEST decision we made with regards to our wedding. She pulled this crazy mess together and helped us have the wedding of our dreams. Also, if you’re considering a DOC and worried about your budget, please know that Daria’s fee was a full 10% of our budget, but was 100% worth it.

Mrs. Pudding, Greater Toronto Area/Vermont
Age and Occupation: 26, High School Teacher
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Computer Engineer
Engagement Date: August 2008
Wedding Date: July 2010
Venue: Catholic Ceremony, Cultural Hall Reception
About Me: Quite literally a citizen of the world, I was born in Poland, grew up in Canada, and now live in the beautiful state of Vermont. I love reading historical biographies, multi-tasking, teasing my hair, and, despite my height, wearing high heeled shoes. I am the ultimate klutz with an uncanny ability to put on a graceful front. Mr. Pudding and I have been dating for over six years, and are very excited to finally merge our (very large) families. We are planning a traditional Polish-Catholic wedding that is anything but predictable.
Since getting married over a week ago, I get questions like this a lot: “Does it feel different?”, “Do you feel more like an adult?”, and so on. To be perfectly honest, there is only one answer that I can come up with when probed like this.
“So, what does it feel like to be a married lady?”
Well, I mostly feel hungry.
Confused? Well, you know how people always say that you need to remember to eat on your wedding day? Well, amongst the lists and schedules that I created for our wedding, I forgot to make a conscious effort to eat. On the day of our reception, I had half a bagel on our way to the hairdresser, and than didn’t eat anything until dinner was served at our reception (at around 6:30PM). Of course, when I received my soup course (a delicious cream of mushroom) I had about three spoonfuls before my poor shrunken stomach yelled at me to take it easy! I had a couple of bites of the main course, and than nibbled on the midnight buffet. I had about two bites of our delicious wedding cake. All in all, I would say that I consumed under 1000 calories that day.
To make matters worse, my eating habits were pretty much just as dismal during our polterabend/rehearsal dinner, and our Sunday Poprawiny.

Mrs. Lobster, Brooklyn
Age and Occupation: 29, Finance Girl
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 33, Finance Boy
Engagement Date: July 25, 2009
Wedding Date: August 2010
Venue: Stage 6 Steiner Studios
About Me: I'm a New York-born, Virginia-bred girl who's found her way back to the big city. Mr. Lobster and I met in grad school and have been together ever since. I'm clueless about DIY but am an avid online shopper and love all things polka dots, stripes, and ruffles! When I'm not making wedding lists, you can find me looking for snacks, watching Gilmore Girls, or hanging out with Mr. Lobster and our new puppy Buddy! We are planning a fancy-pantsy Brooklyn wedding for a hot New York summer night which is sure to be a misadventure in the making.
According to the local news, we are officially in a heat wave… that is 3 consecutive days of 90F+.

Mrs. Argyle, St. Louis
Age and Occupation: 24, Project Coordinator
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Pilot
Engagement Date: February 15, 2009
Wedding Date: September 2010
Venue: Jewel Box in Forest Park and Windows on Washington
About Me: I'm a true Midwestern girl (born and raised), lover of red wine, reality TV and the entire J.Crew catalog. I love to dance regardless of who is watching, and enjoy a good laugh with my girls. I have a soft spot in my heart for planet Earth, my two dogs and my fiance. Fall is my favorite season (which is why we are marrying in September), but I love a warm summer day and the Colorado mountains in the winter. We are planning a modern soiree downtown, with lots of bold colors, and fun, eco-friendly elements.
I don’t know about you, but I definitely do not like to dress up in toilet paper wedding gowns, or have people try and guess a bunch of facts they probably don’t know about me.
So, what am I getting at? Well, back when Mr. A and I first got engaged, one of the very first things I told my friends and mom was that I didn’t want an all-girls’ shower. I wanted to have a shower for both Mr. A and me, that way we can celebrate our pending nuptials with our friends and family. After all, it is the both of us that are getting married. And, as much as that Le Creuset cookware is for me, the Wusthof knives are for him.
(Please note that I would be happy with any shower, but given the fact that neither of us really get a chance to see any of our entire families, we both loved the idea of having a gathering of our friends and family, but I digress.)
Right before the 4th of July, we received a pretty little card in the mail.

Mrs. Lamb, Norfolk
Age and Occupation: 25, Homeland Security Consultant
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 27, Graduate Student
Engagement Date: January 2009
Wedding Date: January 2010
Venue: Trinity Presbyterian Church/Harrison Opera House
About Me: I’m a Homeland Security Consultant with a tendency towards pulling office pranks, taking lunch breaks, and drinking Wawa shakes. I’m also an English major with a serious obsession with alliteration and rhymes. While I’m not keeping America safe, I’m training for half marathons and the Escape from Alcatraz swim. Or moving for the third time this year. Or baking. Or wedding crafting. Or crying about wedding planning. All the while, I’m getting myself into Lucille Ball-esque scrapes and making Jim Carey-esque faces. Our big fat Czech/Baptist/Jewish/Italian wedding is a combination of vintage eclectic, DIY, and little spoonful of sugar from our Event Coordinator. It’s going to be a Norfolk flavored wedding with the verve of an only-daughter-blow-out bash!
Hi y’all! (I’m picking up a twinge of Southern accent!) The bees on the RTP board are gathering for a meet up and we’d be so excited to meet you!
