Mrs. Earrings, Fresno, CA/ Nelson, New ZealandAge and Occupation: 20, Student, Wannabe Writer
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 19, Photography StudentEngagement Date: February 14, 2010Wedding Date: January 2011Venue: Gardens of the WorldAbout Me: I'm a girl from down under who grew up in Indonesia and I'm marrying a California boy. I'm addicted to all things sweet, have never met a chocolate silk pie than can get the better of me, and have dreams of one day being a fulltime novelist. I go weak in the knees for lace, tea cups, and a beautifully crafted sentence. When I get excited about something (whether it is historical linguistics or the Beatles) I tend to go overboard in research, and planning this wedding is no different. Mr. Earrings is my high school sweetheart, my best friend, and somehow we combine all our quirks into one big happy mess.
Isn’t she gorgeous? Okay, well she isn’t “ours” technically but she will be on our wedding day! She is a 1930s Austin, lovingly maintained by my uncle’s partner’s brother in a tiny country town near Nelson.
Yep. My uncle’s partner’s brother. Try to say that ten times fast. He found out about our wedding through his sister, and told her to give us his phone number to see if his car would work for us. It turns out he just really wants his little blue car to get an outing as she doesn’t get many excursions these days. Read more…
Mrs. Husky, DenverAge and Occupation: 26, Systems AdministratorFiance's Age and Occupation: 32, Mechanical Engineer, recently laid offEngagement Date: August 14, 2009Wedding Date: October 2010Venue: Rancho San CarlosAbout Me: I am planning a quirky-crafty wedding with my recently out-of-work fiancé for a (fingers crossed!) warm October afternoon. We are two self-professed nerds with an affinity for all things outdoors---be it rain, snow or shine. Recently relocated from the drizzly Northwest, we're enjoying the many sun-soaked days in the mile high city. Our day will be filled with both of our large families and friends, a self-served Cajun feast, and a Zydeco-style jazz band rocking beneath the beams of a historic red barn.
Much to the initial dismay of my FMIL, we will be using homegrown flowers almost exclusively. MIL Husky is a master gardener; her sprawling sunken garden can put the publishers of Fine Gardening to shame. So her disappointment didn’t stem from our desire to grow our own – it’s because we live in a very dry climate that prevents us from growing many of the bright blooms that she’s accustomed to growing in the Pacific NW. Our growing environment considerations really limit what our arrangements can contain.
But there are many options for those of us living in dry climates, and we’re not stuck with the blooms of yuccas and the needles of cacti. Need proof? We are currently (or soon to be) growing everything here:
Mrs. Starfish, Boston/NewportAge and Occupation: 25, Operations AssistantFiance's Age and Occupation: 25, SalesEngagement Date: October 8, 2008Wedding Date: October 2010Venue: The Atlantic Beach ClubAbout Me: I'm a perfectionist who is a planner at heart. I don't do well with surprises. I love planning, crafting, Newport RI, family and friends, and most importantly, Mr. Starfish---all of which will be big components in our October wedding in our favorite little city by the sea.
Mr. Starfish just ordered our wedding bands! We went to pick them out last weekend, but had to wait for a quote on the rings. My choice was easy. I knew I wanted a band that matched my engagement ring. There were two options in the store, one was too thick, the other to,o thin. The associate looked up my ring, since we bought it in the same location and found out that the exact match is no longer in stock, and it just happened to be right in between the size of the other two. So I ordered the one that is hopefully just right.
Mr. Starfish’s choice was also pretty easy. He walked up to the counter, found a style he liked and tried a few on, then picked the two he liked best. We got a quote for the two and then made his decision. Super easy.
The one thing we were both surprised about during the process was cost. Read more…
Mrs. Thimble, NYC/PhiladelphiaAge and Occupation: 26, Actress & Costume Designer (+ day job)Fiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Lawyer & Techie WizEngagement Date: August 22, 2008Wedding Date: October 2010Venue: The Pearl S. Buck HouseAbout Me: I’m an easily inspired over-thinker delighted with the process of designing, building, directing and {dare I say} co-starring in the early-autumn affair I’ve been dreaming up. I’m a sucker for trendied-up comfort foods and old family anecdotes; I have an affinity for adjectives, alliteration, eyelet and earl grey; and I live for quality time with family and friends. I never guessed I’d marry my “high school sweetheart", but when it turned out to be my funny, techie, loyal Mr. Thimble I was committed for life. We’re both mid-career transition and ready to move back to small-townish TBD, PA in a pre-wedding flurry of all-good life changes.

Mrs. Hot Wings, Chicago/San DiegoAge and Occupation: 28, ProfessorFiance's Age and Occupation: 32, InstructorEngagement Date: December 20, 2008Wedding Date: August 2010Venue: Ocean View Villas/Jasmine Seafood RestaurantAbout Me: I am a psychology grad student living in Chicago and planning my wedding to a fellow psych grad student. I am a Sunny So-Cal bred gal who trudged across the country to follow her love of psychology and ended up finding a partner in the process. I am overly passionate about anything I involve myself with. I am an activist, a foodie, a reality TV watching junkie, an over-analyzer, a photography obsesser, and am utterly cheesy to the core. This is a story of what happens when a boy and a girl meet, fall in love over academic dorkiness, and a shared love for life. We (mostly I) are planning our semi-destination wedding in my hometown of San Diego. We are excited to bring our families and friends together from across our lifespans to celebrate our future in a grand 400+ person culturally blended affair!
Mrs. Lightning, Cape Town Age and Occupation: 22, Journalist and Graphic DesignerFiance's Age and Occupation: 23, Computer ScientistEngagement Date: December 27, 2008
Wedding Date: September 2009Venue: Hout Bay ManorAbout Me: I'm a young American living abroad in the beautiful city of Cape Town with a wonderful South African fiance and our crazy kitty Zeus. We're young, driven and madly in love. Together we're pursuing our wildest dreams including our biggest undertaking yet, a vintage retrospective wedding filled to the brim with DIY madness. I have an unnatural attraction to cake, a passion for blogging and a love of good design. While I might be an overly obsessive creative with too many ideas and nowhere to put them, Mr Lightning is my biggest fan and I can't wait to make my true love mine.
(me and Mr Lightning celebrating the opening match with our friends)
My dearest hive, oh how I have missed you! It seems every time I’d sit down to write, or comment after reading another bee’s wonderful post, everything comes hurtling towards me. In the time I have been absent I renovated a run down old cottage for me and Mr Lightning with the help of my Dad, a retired architect, moved all of our belongings to this wonderful new place we now call home… and perhaps the biggest reason for my absence… there was a little bit of World Cup madness in my very own city! Mrs. Knitting, TorontoAge and Occupation: 24, Student Recruitment Assistant
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Neuroscience PhD CandidateEngagement Date: October 2009Wedding Date: December 2010Venue: University of Toronto Faculty Club
About Me: I'm a pearl wearing, etiquette book reading Toronto girl who loves cooking and baking, museums, charm bracelets, and collecting books on Jackie Kennedy (a lot). I've been known to spend Sunday mornings at the antique market, Wednesday evenings at sister sushi dinners, and any bit of spare time reading. After six and a half years of many late night walks, watching DVDs together in bed, travelling to places like New York, and Tobermory, doing Sudokus together on the couch, lots of Indian food, the occasional yoga class, moving in together and so much more, Mr. Knitting and I are planning a cozy Christmasy (it's a word!), vintage wedding in Toronto complete with many DIY projects (eek!) and lots of help from our amazing group of family and friends.
Until pretty recently I thought headbands were stupid. Whenever anyone mentioned headbands all I could picture were the hideous ones I owned growing up in the early nineties. Now that I’ve seen some of the completely gorgeous headbands that are around today I’ve completely changed my mind and am now pretty obsessed with gorgeous headbands.
This is the one that makes me a bit sad that I already have something to wear on my head for the wedding.
Mrs. Pencils, Washington DC/Frederick, MDAge and Occupation: 24, Program Director, Education Non ProfitFiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Administrative Assistant, Ocean Conservation Non ProfitEngagement Date: July 26, 2008Wedding Date: May 2010Venue: Morningside InnAbout Me: I'm a nerdy Northwestern girl who always knew she was meant to live in the East, harboring a deep love of ice cream, underwear, Diet Coke with a splash of Coca-Cola, pashminas, scrapbooking, stationery, wall calendars and books written for preteens. I think every day should include good thin crust pizza, chocolate, an obscure historical monument, lots of laughter, a dash of wedding planning and, of course, amazing Mr. Pencils! I'm loving the adventure of planning a Maryland wedding and Rocky Mountain reception, and most of all, I just love love!

Mrs. Sand Dollar, HoustonAge and Occupation: 24, Graphic DesignerFiance's Age and Occupation: 22, Electrical TechnicianEngagement Date: January 8, 2010Wedding Date: September 2010Venue: MacLean ParkAbout Me: I'm a domestic diva down to the core. I heart cooking, sewing, baking, decorating and making sure we have a hand-crafted home. The best part about the wedding is I get to incorporate it all! I make sure I put my art degree to good use by screen printing, craft knife cutting, and a whole lotta graphic design. We're having a big-time party on a small-time budget, and I promise to show you a boot-scootin', barbecue-eatin', finger-lickin' good time! Mr. Sand Dollar and I spend most of our time on DIY projects or traipsing around the outdoors with our two pooches Rory and Juno. I'm looking forward to sharing our journey with all of you!
Being the broke bride that I am, all our bridesmaids’ gifts are going to have to be handmade. But handmade doesn’t have to mean ugly or lame! I came up with the idea of making these letters after Bestie C’s birthday, inspired by the Anthropologie upholstered letters I saw in stores. Read more…
Mrs. Cardigan, AustinAge and Occupation: 21, Student/Soon-to-be Special Education TeacherFiance's Age and Occupation: 20, Student/Soon-to-be Accounting Systems AnalystEngagement Date: August 16, 2009Wedding Date: January 2011Venue: Vintage VillasAbout Me: I'm a native Austinite who was raised as a die-hard Aggie. Luckily, I'm a pretty persuasive girl because I managed to convince my high school boyfriend (now fiance!), Mr. Cardigan, to ditch his hardcore Longhorn ways and join me up at A&M, where we currently reside with our adorable dogs, Cullen & Ranger. We're currently planning a bright, cheery wedding with a ridiculous amount of DIY projects that I can't wait to tackle! I love crafting in any form, reading, and margaritas (I think I love them the most!). Organization is what keeps me sane and I love helping others, which is probably why I ended up as an education major. It gets a little chaotic sometimes when you're planning a wedding among all of the papers, projects, finals, and certification exams, but we're having the time of our lives and we can't wait to get started on our journey as husband and wife - and we're so excited to share our wedding with the hive!
One of the most fun things about sending out our save the dates has been seeing the hit counter rise on our wedding website! I put so much thought and effort into creating it, so it’s so exciting to know that people are actually visiting it!
To be honest, I kind of feel like I copped out a little on the creation of the website - my original intent was to start from scratch and create a kick-ass website with its own domain name and all that jazz. But I really don’t have ANY talent in the area of web design, and I’m too cheap to actually purchase a domain name. So it was decided that I’d use one of the nifty little free wedding website creators. But which one? There are SO many options and I was kind of overwhelmed by them!
I went a little crazy when I was trying to choose one. I can’t even remember which all websites I tried out, but I created at least 4 different websites and then subsequently deleted them before I actually settled on one. Read more…

I was packing for a business road trip when Mr. Husky decided to ride shotgun. His schedule was flexible, and he was eager to explore a side of the state he’d never seen: Ouray.
An outdoor paradise in any season, Ouray is a tiny town tucked inside the massive rocky mountains that are constantly filled with ice-climbers, hikers, and Jeeps.
My destination was just a few towns over, and we decided to extend the trip into the weekend and make a vacation out of it. Little did I know that it would turn out to be the vacation that I returned from with a glittering accoutrement on my left ring finger! Read more…

Note: The following post discusses the subject of eating disorders. For some people who are struggling with an eating disorder now, or who have a loved one who is struggling in this area, parts of this may be hard to read. So, this is just a heads up.
One thing our pre-marital counselor emphasised to us is that the best gift we can give each other when beginning our marriage is a healthy Miss E, and a healthy Mr E. “Healthy” in this sense encompassing physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual well-being. In this way, when we ourselves are healthy, we are free to be the best person we can be for our partner, to care for their needs and start off life together on a more stable footing.
This has had me thinking a lot. Now, I know good physical health is a luxury some of us just don’t have, myself included, for no fault of our own. What I’m talking about is not that we all must be the epitome of healthiness or we are bad spouses, instead I am focusing on our respect for our own bodies and respect for our health (in all areas). This strikes a chord inside me in a very uncomfortable place.
See, for the last few years I have not been very caring or respectful towards myself. Read more…
Mrs. Locket, Ithaca, NYAge and Occupation: 25, Research TechnicianFiance's Age and Occupation: 28, former Banker hoping to become an Officer of the LawEngagement Date: June 15, 2009Wedding Date: September 2010Venue: Heron Hill WineryAbout Me: I am a little bit of everything all rolled into one: A girly gal with rough edges---I love to get dolled up just as much as I enjoy throwing on some sneaks to toss a ball with Mr. Locket. My love for crafting and creating is quite apparent and I've been referred to as a Wonder Woman/Martha Stewart/Stepford Wife hybrid (yup, I'll take that as a compliment). I adore sewing, photography, sculpture, good eats (mmm tapas), baking, snugging and oh, pretty much everything in between (there's not much I dislike). I am super excited to be planning our vineyard wedding and couldn't be happier to be marrying Mr. Locket. We are a quirky, fun-loving couple residing in our college town with our two pups Maple and Molly. We love to go on hikes, visit our local dog park and to bask in the beauty of many of the local falls and gorges. We are an indecisive pair, but together we somehow manage to make up our minds (it's the easy stuff that's tricky).
So, I have a confession to make… I have an infatuation with trees. I am not quite sure where or when it started, but I have always admired the organic look of spiraling branches twisting and reaching up into the sky. There is something so lovely about the silhouette of a broad based tree with its intricate branches spreading across a red and purple horizon. It’s as if each branch were painted with a careful stroke onto the canvas sky.
