My love for crafting and creating is quite apparent and I've been referred to as a Wonder Woman/Martha Stewart/Stepford Wife hybrid (yup, I'll take that as a compliment). I adore sewing, photography, sculpture, good eats (mmm tapas), baking, snugging and oh, pretty much everything in between (there's not much I dislike). I am super excited to be planning our vineyard wedding and couldn't be happier to be marrying Mr. Locket. We are a quirky, fun-loving couple residing in our college town with our two pups Maple and Molly. We love to go on hikes, visit our local dog park and to bask in the beauty of many of the local falls and gorges. We are an indecisive pair, but together we somehow manage to make up our minds (it's the easy stuff that's tricky).

1 Bride, 1 Groom, 4 Wedding Bands?

July 16th, 2010 @ 9:48 am by Mrs. Locket

Yuppers, you read right. Between the two of us we will have not 2, nor 3, but 4 wedding bands! I know what you are thinking:

And, yes I admit it does sound crazy and that for many it screams frivolity. But, in all honesty it’s not as crazy or as frivolous as you would think. And, in our quirky minds it makes perfect sense to each have two bands. Now here comes the part where I explain myself…

There are times in a girl’s life when she just needs to break out her glue gun. Tonight was one of those times. Whenever I have long stretches stuck at my computer coding websites, I crave crafting. I get the itch, and if I don’t scratch it I go crazy. So, I decided the time was right to start the cake topper. And I think it actually turned out pretty darn cute! For a refresher, here was my inspiration:

Rehearsal Dinner Woes

July 16th, 2010 @ 8:46 am by Mrs. Cardigan

As we all know, I’m a planner. I like to get stuff done, and I don’t like sitting around doing nothing. So, when I came to a lull in our wedding planning, my mind started wandering to other things I could take care of. FMIL Cardy has graciously offered to foot the bill for the rehearsal dinner, and she had been asking us about how much it would cost. I figured, what better time to take care of the rehearsal dinner location than now?

My immediate first thought was my one of my favorite restaurants in the world (second only to Melting Pot), Chuy’s. They have the best margaritas I’ve ever tasted, a really fun atmosphere, and food that will make you weak in the knees.

#2 Reception: The Pencils Do Idaho!

July 15th, 2010 @ 6:33 pm by Mrs. Pencils

Ahaha, get it?!?! The Pencils NUMBER TWO reception? Like a number two pencil?!?! Ahaha!

Hokay, so. Remember a really long time ago I told you all about our plans to have a second wedding reception in my hometown in Idaho?! No? That’s a’ight! This past weekend, though, it happened—we gathered with fifty of (mostly my) friends and family to celebrate Mr. Pencils’ and my May nuptials with some kegs, some BBQ, and delicious sheet cake. It was friggin’ fantastic.

Mr. P and I began the trip with, what else, multiple layovers. The best of which occurred in Memphis, where we sampled some original Southern barbecue. I promptly declared myself vegetarian on Wednesday and ate pork ribs on Thursday. I’m still trying…

I write and edit things for fun and profit, but I rarely "write" these days without a keyboard and high-speed internets. Favorites include Mr. Taco, my Boston terrier, San Francisco, getting out of town, and the Roaring ’20s. I was kind-of planning a wedding since roughly 2006, when I discovered "Whose Wedding Is It Anyway?" on the WE channel. I ran and didn't look back with a theme I called "urban vintage," and it culminated in the most magical day a taco could ask for.

Is THAT What It Is?

July 15th, 2010 @ 5:13 pm by Mrs. Taco

Aside from asking about whether our planning is done (pretty much) or if I’m excited (yep!) people ask me most often these days about whether I’m mega-stressed. Everyone seems to know and accept that it’s part of the game. True, there are lots of balls (HAHA I’m 12, too) to keep in the air, and most of us don’t do this professionally. We have a lot of other things going on in our respective lives, and we don’t want planning to interfere with living.

But I’ve decided that the root of stress for control freaks detail-oriented planners like ourselves is simply being unable to let go.

For example, I made a draft day-of, hour-by-hour schedule for our bridal party and vendors. I’ll send this out the week of the wedding, and I’m sure everyone will read it and get what they need to do. Even if they don’t, I’m sure they can fake it and I’ll be none the wiser. But once the schedule leaves my hands, I give up control of the timeline. This comes with plenty of “what if” worries, and an overwhelming desire to ask people, a la kindergarten, if they understood the schedule. Vendors will surely get confirmation phone calls in the days prior, but our bridal party comprises, well, friends. So, I’m trying to remind myself that just letting it go is probably the best thing for everyone.

I'm addicted to all things sweet, have never met a chocolate silk pie than can get the better of me, and have dreams of one day being a fulltime novelist. I go weak in the knees for lace, tea cups, and a beautifully crafted sentence. When I get excited about something (whether it is historical linguistics or the Beatles) I tend to go overboard in research, and planning this wedding is no different. Mr. Earrings is my high school sweetheart, my best friend, and somehow we combine all our quirks into one big happy mess.
About Mrs. Earrings

Glad rags: formal or dressy clothes for a special occasion. As in, the BM dresses. I’m not sure if this is NZ specific slang or not (any Americans still use it?) but my mother always says it, so there you go.

When it came to figuring out what my bridesmaids would wear, I was a bit all over the place. I want them to feel pretty, I want them to be able to wear the dresses again (or at least delude myself into thinking they can wear them again), the dresses need to be appropriate for a not-so-formal but still elegant and English-y picnic wedding, AND they have to be $100 NZD or under (eek!). Oh yeah, and if the colour falls somewhere in the purple range that would be awesome.

During my search, I saved pictures of favourite outfits will-nilly and then when I got sick of inspiration and was ready to sort through it all I divided the dresses into two categories: The Stunning Impossibles, and the Gorgeous Possibles.

First, my Stunning Impossible beauties:

Mr. Socks and I go out pretty often—we’re in Philly a few times a week, we love trying new restaurants and activities, and it just seems like we never have time to get bored since we run around so much. As much as we get out of the house though, there’s just something about making time for those special nights. You know, the nights out that you look forward to all week long and think about the next day? The kind of night that holds a special place in your heart and your relationship may not be the same without it?

For us, those nights include Tria Cafe.

Team Spirit

July 15th, 2010 @ 3:02 pm by Mrs. Veggie

Our camp wedding is going to involve lots of fun and games and a fair bit of friendly family competition. While my side might have the advantage in sheer numbers, Mr. Veggie’s side has quite a few good athletes, so it’s looking to be a good match-up. We have several events planned for the weekend. The morning of our rehearsal dinner the camp is going to set up a multi-event relay for our immediate families and bridal party involving silly stunts and heroic athletic feats. At the rehearsal dinner itself we are having a chili cook-off and microbrew competition. A few rounds of flip cup and frisbeer might also find their way into the evening. But the main event (besides our wedding) will be the bride v. groom softball game, to take place at 10AM the morning of the wedding. Yes, people will have to choose sides. For some it will be an easy choice. For others, it will be heart wrenching.

Question: How will we know what side they chose? How will I know who to heckle (and possibly sabotage) and who to cheer on?

Answer: Team uniforms.

I have a problem. I’m obsessed with origami, and I can’t stop. Really, I love all paper-related crafts in general. Every time I see another paper project, my mind immediately starts coming up with ways I can use it in the wedding.

Can the theme of a wedding be “paper”?

Anyways, I was on one of my favorite blogs the other day, Young House Love, and I saw this cute little craft:
