Together we’re planning a FUN vintage/modern French carnival wedding extravaganza and rockin’ dance party on a dime. (Say that three times fast!) Good coffee, long lists, Uniball pens, and my iPhone keep me sane, and making art, making trouble, and making out keep me happy! Bridesmaids Revisited

July 14th, 2010 @ 5:14 pm by Ms. Stripes

So I think it’s time we revisit this whole bridesmaid situation. Clothing, that is. Remember ohsolongago I debated between light, bright, or black & white? That feels like freakin’ forever ago. Yowza.

Anyhoo, in case you forgot (i almost did!) bright was the winner, and we decided that our ladies would wear a combo of plain/patterned dresses and suits in bright colors with a vintage feel. I ain’t gonna lie or pretend- we did NOT say they could wear anything they wanted. We didn’t give them our blessing and send ‘em out carte blanche into the world. Nope. We like to torture ourselves. So we went shopping.

Yes. One Saturday a few weeks ago we all piled into Lil’ Stripes Volvo and headed to the mall. I think I should tell you guys now, that while I shop for a living, (and truly enjoy it) going to the mall with my girlfriends is NOT a part of my reality. Sure it looks lovely on SATC, but we usually skip the shopping and head straight for the drinks, if ya know what I mean.

So we’re at the mall for about 36 seconds before I realize that:

I’m a sucker for trendied-up comfort foods and old family anecdotes; I have an affinity for adjectives, alliteration, eyelet and earl grey; and I live for quality time with family and friends. I Love Jar

July 14th, 2010 @ 4:28 pm by Mrs. Thimble

Srsly, I love that this mason jar trend won’t die! They are easy to get, affordable (with the exception of the aqua ones—they go for $6.00 a piece at barn sales near my parents’ house), they’re cute and homespun-feeling, and they’re easy for a DIY wedding. The best part about them? They are versatile.

Luckily, I'm a pretty persuasive girl because I managed to convince my high school boyfriend (now fiance!), Mr. Cardigan, to ditch his hardcore Longhorn ways and join me up at A&M, where we currently reside with our adorable dogs, Cullen & Ranger. We're currently planning a bright, cheery wedding with a ridiculous amount of DIY projects that I can't wait to tackle! I love crafting in any form, reading, and margaritas (I think I love them the most!). Organization is what keeps me sane and I love helping others, which is probably why I ended up as an education major. It gets a little chaotic sometimes when you're planning a wedding among all of the papers, projects, finals, and certification exams, but we're having the time of our lives and we can't wait to get started on our journey as husband and wife - and we're so excited to share our wedding with the hive!
About Mrs. Cardigan

Yup. He sure did.

It all went down when we were at my cousin’s wedding a couple of weekends ago. We were sitting in our chairs, patiently waiting for the wedding to start, and their musician for the ceremony came out - a friend of theirs who was going to be playing guitar.

My dad leans over to me: “How in the world is that guy going to play ‘Here Comes the Bride’ on a guitar?”
I smiled at him (silly dad!) and replied: ”Well, they’re probably not going to play the Bridal March! I’m sure he’ll be playing something else.”

My dad pondered this for a moment, with a look like this on his face:

Program Power! Part 3

July 14th, 2010 @ 3:44 pm by Mrs. Sewing

Although I love just about every detail we have incorporated into this wedding so far, our program would have to be my favorite child. It really did take a good chunk of time and creative juice to complete. You’ve already seen a little of it, here and here.

Program Power! Part 3 : wedding diy honolulu programs Cover C

After completing my 6 page comic “book”, I really wanted the programs professionally printed. After checking around the web and other print stores though, I realized that booklets were costly! Up to $500, just for a hundred or so programs! There was no way I could do that.

Mr. Sew had already started making plans for how we’d print them at home, when I stumbled upon a little site called Smartpress.

I love living in New York City. This place is amazing! I just hit a gold mine with this one: M&J Trimming is the mecca for ribbons. There are so many types of trimmings it is mind boggling. There are thousands of ribbons lining the mile high walls. Do you need ribbon for trim? Sparkling rhinestones? Buttons? Feather boas? This is the place. Mrs. Knitting, Toronto Age and Occupation: 24, Student Recruitment Assistant Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Neuroscience PhD Candidate Engagement Date: October 2009 Wedding Date: December 2010 Venue: University of Toronto Faculty Club About Me: I'm a pearl wearing, etiquette book reading Toronto girl who loves cooking and baking, museums, charm bracelets, and collecting books on Jackie Kennedy (a lot). I've been known to spend Sunday mornings at the antique market, Wednesday evenings at sister sushi dinners, and any bit of spare time reading. After six and a half years of many late night walks, watching DVDs together in bed, travelling to places like New York, and Tobermory, doing Sudokus together on the couch, lots of Indian food, the occasional yoga class, moving in together and so much more, Mr. Knitting and I are planning a cozy Christmasy (it's a word!), vintage wedding in Toronto complete with many DIY projects (eek!) and lots of help from our amazing group of family and friends.
About Mrs. Knitting

Don’t get me wrong, I love flowers. However, being a budget bride means that I really do have to pick and choose which elements are most important to me. I love fresh flowers, but unfortunately they are one of the items I’ll be saving on.

I love reading, writing, bicycles, animals, roller skating, and antique-y things of all sorts. I'm a vegetarian who likes spicy foods, while Fiancee Seahorse is a meat eater who does not like spices. We live outside Boston with our menagerie: a fifty pound dog, a one-eyed, seventeen-toed, toothless cat, and a perfectly put together cat who has a penchant for pooping near rather than in her litter box. In addition to planning our small lake-side wedding, we enjoy running around with the puppy, playing board games (Scrabble, anyone?), having little adventures, talking about how we should really clean the house more, and maintaining our little garden of vegetables and wedding flowers.

First Wedding Nightmare

July 14th, 2010 @ 2:41 pm by Ms Seahorse

I’ve been reading some other peoples’ wedding blogs and various people have posted about wedding nightmares. Not, “it was a nightmare!” but actual, “I went to sleep and dreamed that the back of my dress was missing or no one showed up or the cake was made out of dirt.” And I was like, “Silly brides, don’t worry! You’ll be fine.”

Well, last night I had my first wedding nightmare. And I know other peoples’ dreams are really boring to read about, so I’ll try to keep it brief: I dreamed that suddenly it turned out that TOMORROW was September and it was our wedding day and we were getting married. And that was that. Only everything was sort of in real time, so our dress fitting isn’t until next Tuesday and my suit - the muslin version - hasn’t even arrived in the mail. Oh, and our vows are written only in the sense that we have a pageful of phrases.
