Mrs. Hermit Crab, New York, NYAge and Occupation: 24, Youth Director soon to be Grad StudentFiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Medical Student - soon to be Surgery ResidentEngagement Date: October 11, 2008Wedding Date: June 2010Venue: New York Botanical GardenAbout Me: I love all things food, books, our furbaby, Rashi, and adventures with my amazing fiance (oh, and saving the world!). This summer I will not only be a bride, but a bridesmaid, officiant, and attendee as well---it's all about weddings in my life right now, full of so many exciting moments and projects. We're planning a fab New York City wedding weekend full of family, love and lots of color!
Even though it may seem a little out of order, I am going to start catching you up with our honeymoon recaps! It’s hard to believe but we’ve been married just over a month now… a month!!
We had an unbelievably fabulous time as we explored Croatia top to bottom in a little under two weeks. I have split the posts up by our itinerary in three abridged sections - it was very difficult to narrow down our hundreds of pictures and all the sights we saw! If you are interested in any additional information about our trip as I go along, or a more detailed itinerary, please feel free to PM me - I would be more than happy to share recommendations and our hotels.
Without further ado… we took off on the Monday afternoon right after our wedding. We flew overnight from New York to Copenhagen, and after a short layover, flew to the capital of Croatia, Zagreb, for our first night. We rented a car for the first week of our trip, so we drove out to our hotel in Zagreb.
We were hungry so we stopped for farm fresh strawberries in front of the main square in Zagreb.
Mrs. Starfish, Boston/NewportAge and Occupation: 25, Operations AssistantFiance's Age and Occupation: 25, SalesEngagement Date: October 8, 2008Wedding Date: October 2010Venue: The Atlantic Beach ClubAbout Me: I'm a perfectionist who is a planner at heart. I don't do well with surprises. I love planning, crafting, Newport RI, family and friends, and most importantly, Mr. Starfish---all of which will be big components in our October wedding in our favorite little city by the sea.
I just purchased these awesome cookie cutters at Williams Sonoma in June. I saw them on the site awhile back, but they sold out, and recently became available again!
It’s kind of like embossing, but for cookies! If you’ve been following along, you may know how much I love embossing, as seen here, here, here, and here! The set includes three cutters, seven pre made words (Welcome, Happy, Birthday, Holidays, Thank You, From, I Love You), three sets of alphabet letters (plus extras of vowels and other commonly used letters). Mrs. Trail Mix, New YorkAge and Occupation: 26, PE TeacherFiance's Age and Occupation: 27, MBA StudentEngagement Date: March 2009Wedding Date: June 2010Venue: Tannery Pond at the Darrow SchoolAbout Me: I'm a country girl who somehow found herself living in the Big Apple and loving every minute of it. I'm planning a rustic, country-chic wedding in my hometown in upstate New York and it's going to be a Party with a capital P. White wine, flea markets and running keep me happy and my friends, family and fiance are my world. I'm a little bit crafty, a little bit crazy but mostly just crazy in love.
And it’s actually not with my new hubby (although, lord knows I love him too). But before you gasp and wonder what the heck is going on, I’ll explain…
This is the kind of love that gets you up at 5:30 every morning without complaint (OK, maybe a few complaints but only a few), the kind of love that makes you coo and squeal over every new move, a love that even makes picking up poo with a plastic bag somehow adorable.
Yes, I am in love with a dog. And not just any dog, my dog (our dog, sorry, hubs). I’ve never had a dog before, not even when I was growing up. Now we do, and she’s perfect.
So you can tell how happy and proud I am to tell you all that Mr Trail Mix and I adopted an 8-week-old Boston Terrier mix from a rescue shelter called Hugs for Hounds last Friday! She weighs in at 3 pounds, her name is Perri and we’re so in love, it’s not even funny.
I mean, good grief, how could you not love a face like this? Read more…
Mrs. Knitting, TorontoAge and Occupation: 24, Student Recruitment Assistant
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Neuroscience PhD CandidateEngagement Date: October 2009Wedding Date: December 2010Venue: University of Toronto Faculty Club
About Me: I'm a pearl wearing, etiquette book reading Toronto girl who loves cooking and baking, museums, charm bracelets, and collecting books on Jackie Kennedy (a lot). I've been known to spend Sunday mornings at the antique market, Wednesday evenings at sister sushi dinners, and any bit of spare time reading. After six and a half years of many late night walks, watching DVDs together in bed, travelling to places like New York, and Tobermory, doing Sudokus together on the couch, lots of Indian food, the occasional yoga class, moving in together and so much more, Mr. Knitting and I are planning a cozy Christmasy (it's a word!), vintage wedding in Toronto complete with many DIY projects (eek!) and lots of help from our amazing group of family and friends.
I LOVE this look. Not those specific colours (although they are lovely), but the idea of having different dresses in similar(ish) shades. Read more…
Mrs. Sand Dollar, HoustonAge and Occupation: 24, Graphic DesignerFiance's Age and Occupation: 22, Electrical TechnicianEngagement Date: January 8, 2010Wedding Date: September 2010Venue: MacLean ParkAbout Me: I'm a domestic diva down to the core. I heart cooking, sewing, baking, decorating and making sure we have a hand-crafted home. The best part about the wedding is I get to incorporate it all! I make sure I put my art degree to good use by screen printing, craft knife cutting, and a whole lotta graphic design. We're having a big-time party on a small-time budget, and I promise to show you a boot-scootin', barbecue-eatin', finger-lickin' good time! Mr. Sand Dollar and I spend most of our time on DIY projects or traipsing around the outdoors with our two pooches Rory and Juno. I'm looking forward to sharing our journey with all of you!
Mama Sand Dollar excitedly ordered the Cricut Cake as soon as it was available, and today we got the chance to finally test it out! After watching the HSN demonstration on their show, as well as the DVD that came with the product, we felt we were ready to conquer. Everything seemed like a snap, the demo ladies were whipping out designs left and right. Read more…
Mrs. Socks, Southern NJ/Philadelphia, PAAge and Occupation: 23, Web Developer/Marketing SpecialistFiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Systems EngineerEngagement Date: September 7, 2009
Wedding Date: October 2010Venue: Ladder 15 RestaurantAbout Me: I am originally from the Midwest, but I love being an East Coast transplant! Mr. Socks and I are foodies and winos to the core---give us a hunk of cheese, some charcuterie and a glass of wine and we could die happy. We have two mischievous Wire Fox Terriers with completely opposite personalities but with a shared love of uprooting anything in our garden. Our backyard garden includes everything from tomatoes and peppers to a fig tree, blueberries, blackberries and raspberries! I love cooking, indie music, and spending time in our wedding city of choice---Philly!
Mrs. Cardigan, AustinAge and Occupation: 21, Student/Soon-to-be Special Education TeacherFiance's Age and Occupation: 20, Student/Soon-to-be Accounting Systems AnalystEngagement Date: August 16, 2009Wedding Date: January 2011Venue: Vintage VillasAbout Me: I'm a native Austinite who was raised as a die-hard Aggie. Luckily, I'm a pretty persuasive girl because I managed to convince my high school boyfriend (now fiance!), Mr. Cardigan, to ditch his hardcore Longhorn ways and join me up at A&M, where we currently reside with our adorable dogs, Cullen & Ranger. We're currently planning a bright, cheery wedding with a ridiculous amount of DIY projects that I can't wait to tackle! I love crafting in any form, reading, and margaritas (I think I love them the most!). Organization is what keeps me sane and I love helping others, which is probably why I ended up as an education major. It gets a little chaotic sometimes when you're planning a wedding among all of the papers, projects, finals, and certification exams, but we're having the time of our lives and we can't wait to get started on our journey as husband and wife - and we're so excited to share our wedding with the hive!
The scene: A few weeks ago, in the living room. About a week before, I had asked Mr. C to call and get some information about a potential rehearsal dinner location.
Mr. C: (looks up phone number, calls restaurant) “Hi, I was just calling to ask if you guys will allow reservations for large groups, like over 20?”
Me: (waving arms and whispering loudly) “Ask about rehearsal dinners, not reservations!”
Mr. C: (ignoring me) “Okay, so we would be able to have a table guaranteed? No waiting?”
Me: NO! Rehearsal dinner!!!!!
Mr. C: (now speaking to a manager) “Hello, so if we’re having a rehearsal dinner and we want to make reservations for it…”
Mrs. Pudding, Greater Toronto Area/VermontAge and Occupation: 26, High School TeacherFiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Computer EngineerEngagement Date: August 2008Wedding Date: July 2010Venue: Catholic Ceremony, Cultural Hall ReceptionAbout Me: Quite literally a citizen of the world, I was born in Poland, grew up in Canada, and now live in the beautiful state of Vermont. I love reading historical biographies, multi-tasking, teasing my hair, and, despite my height, wearing high heeled shoes. I am the ultimate klutz with an uncanny ability to put on a graceful front. Mr. Pudding and I have been dating for over six years, and are very excited to finally merge our (very large) families. We are planning a traditional Polish-Catholic wedding that is anything but predictable.
Editor’s note: this post was written yesterday, on Mrs. Pudding’s wedding day!
~~~
It’s 4:26 AM. I am at Mama Pudding’s house on the morning of our wedding day. The whole house is still sleeping, but a slight noise from outside woke me up. Going back to sleep is out of the question: today is our wedding day, after all!
Mr. Pudding’s family has all arrived safe and sound. My family from Poland is all here, sans some missing baggage. The rehearsal dinner has come and gone, and my makeshift polterabend was such a big hit (who new that breaking a beer bottle on the eve before your wedding could be so cathartic!).
The last couple of days have not been without tense moments, capitalized by a few stress driven tears yesterday. Even this morning I feel slightly unprepared, since there are still about a half dozen loose ends that are on my to-do list.
Mrs. Locket, Ithaca, NYAge and Occupation: 25, Research TechnicianFiance's Age and Occupation: 28, former Banker hoping to become an Officer of the LawEngagement Date: June 15, 2009Wedding Date: September 2010Venue: Heron Hill WineryAbout Me: I am a little bit of everything all rolled into one: A girly gal with rough edges---I love to get dolled up just as much as I enjoy throwing on some sneaks to toss a ball with Mr. Locket. My love for crafting and creating is quite apparent and I've been referred to as a Wonder Woman/Martha Stewart/Stepford Wife hybrid (yup, I'll take that as a compliment). I adore sewing, photography, sculpture, good eats (mmm tapas), baking, snugging and oh, pretty much everything in between (there's not much I dislike). I am super excited to be planning our vineyard wedding and couldn't be happier to be marrying Mr. Locket. We are a quirky, fun-loving couple residing in our college town with our two pups Maple and Molly. We love to go on hikes, visit our local dog park and to bask in the beauty of many of the local falls and gorges. We are an indecisive pair, but together we somehow manage to make up our minds (it's the easy stuff that's tricky).
Shortly after becoming engaged I became obsessed with Weddingbee (who am I kidding, I found it while I was waiting). It was the happiest unintended wedding site find I could have made. I found myself drawn to the DIY goodness of bloggers’ featured weddings and was inspired and reassured I could do the same with our own wedding.
I had always envisioned DIYing as many aspects of our wedding as possible, but feared that in the end it would look too crafty. I loved the thought of designing and printing my own invites, but feared I would miss out on the pro-quality. That is until I heard about a neat device called the Gocco, which is basically a mini at home screen printing kit. Unfortunately, the Gocco was discontinued and with supplies becoming scarce it wouldn’t be the best investment. I felt like my dreams were crashing to the floor. That was until I came across Miss Duckling’s post about this great new gadget called Yudu! It could be the perfect answer to DIYing my own invites and I am very excited to say I finally ordered mine!!! Read more…
Mrs. Earrings, Fresno, CA/ Nelson, New ZealandAge and Occupation: 20, Student, Wannabe Writer
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 19, Photography StudentEngagement Date: February 14, 2010Wedding Date: January 2011Venue: Gardens of the WorldAbout Me: I'm a girl from down under who grew up in Indonesia and I'm marrying a California boy. I'm addicted to all things sweet, have never met a chocolate silk pie than can get the better of me, and have dreams of one day being a fulltime novelist. I go weak in the knees for lace, tea cups, and a beautifully crafted sentence. When I get excited about something (whether it is historical linguistics or the Beatles) I tend to go overboard in research, and planning this wedding is no different. Mr. Earrings is my high school sweetheart, my best friend, and somehow we combine all our quirks into one big happy mess.
I’m not sure when or why my obsession with parasols began, but they never fail to make me weak at the knees. As I have posted about previously, my bridesmaids will be sporting gorgeous wrist corsages instead of bouquets (I will still have a bouquet, but that is another story). But what about if they all (and myself for photos and such) have parasols as well? As both the ceremony and reception will be outside, parasols can even be justified as a “sensible” expense to protect us from the sun, as well as doing double duty as photo props (well that is how I explained it to Mr E anyway. But, seriously, he can’t help liking them either). And don’t you think parasols have such a vintage-y, elegant feeling to them, perfect for our English garden/tea party/ picnic wedding?
Ok, enough justification. It’s time for some inspiration pics.
I love the mismatched, playful look of these girls and their parasols:
Mrs. Pashmina, NYC/Catalina Island, CAAge and Occupation: 28, Arts EducationFiance's Age and Occupation: 34, IT AdministratorEngagement Date: April 26th, 2009Wedding Date: July 2010Venue: Catalina Country Club, Catalina Island, CaliforniaAbout Me: I'm a laid-back Cali girl who moved to NYC for school, and ended up staying for love. My fiance is a quick-witted Jersey boy, a self-proclaimed Foodie and the funniest man I've ever met. Together we love exploring the city streets embarking on our next misadventure---and yes, this often involves eating off food carts and trying "the next big thing". I'm the girl in the sundress, snapping photos and collecting trinkets of memorabilia along the way. As a girly girl at heart, I am excited about our romantic natural island wedding incorporating our American & Filipino traditions.
I absolutely love Zappos.com! I’ve order two pairs of shoes from them and have always selected regular shipping, but they’ve always been accelerated to express overnight!! I ordered the Badgley Mischka Randee heels and they just came in! Read more…
Mrs. Seashell, Chicago, IL / Providence, RIAge and Occupation: 28, Marriage and Family TherapistFiance's Age and Occupation: 31, Electrical EngineerEngagement Date: September 3, 2009Wedding Date: September 2010Venue: The Glen Manor HouseAbout Me: Fonts and fashion, stationery and Sundays, photography and french toast... the beauty is in the details for this fun-loving Chicagoan who loves to plan plan plan! The soon-to-be hubs plays "Mr. Fix-It" in our new condo while I swoon over beautiful, personalized stationery and choose shades of aubergine for my bridesmaids' dresses... and thus begins my new fairy tale! Skirting to the East Coast for our September nuptials where my home state of Rhode Island awaits with fall foliage, I'm just a few dress fittings and bachelorette party away from saying "I Do" to a very happy ending!
The more time that passed the more ambivalent I felt about my hair and makeup trial. Being so far from Providence, I was starting to feel anxious because I couldn’t simply schedule an additional appointment with my stylist (without hopping on a plane). What to do?
Even in the midst of getting ready to move she was willing to unpack her rollers and fire ’em up for a hair trial.
Nothing like being in the hands of a recent-bride-experienced-stylist to calm a bride’s nerves. Oh, and I brought her some nachos (and wine). It seemed appropriate. Read more…
Mrs. Turtle, Central CaliforniaAge and Occupation: 21, Art Student/TeacherFiance's Age and Occupation: 22, English StudentEngagement Date: August 16, 2008Wedding Date: July 2010Venue: Mr. Turtle's Grandparents' backyard, Arroyo Grande, CAAbout Me: I am a California girl who loves the beach and the mountains, but is quite satisfied living right in the middle where I can enjoy the best of both worlds. I am happiest when traveling to faraway places, wandering through museums, watching old movies, or baking up a storm. Mr. Turtle and I are high school sweethearts and fellow book nerds who both drive Mini Coopers and are most likely to be found browsing in antique stores. We're having so much fun planning our European garden wedding with a vintage twist and can't wait to share more of life's adventures together!
Editor’s note: Mrs. Penguin here! I was out of town this weekend! (The now) MRS Turtle wrote this post on Saturday, her wedding day!
~~~
When Mr. Turtle and I got engaged back in August of 2008, July 10, 2010 felt a lifetime away! But now that it’s here, I find myself wondering where all the time went. Mrs. Oyster just made a great analogy in her recent post about the final days before the big day feeling like a giant roller coaster. I feel like we’re climbing further and further up, and we know the big drop is coming, and we’re just bracing ourselves for it, because we know that once it comes, it is going to be so fun, but over so fast! This past week has been a whirlwind of chaos for me! So many things seem to be going wrong, and I can’t even count how many times I’ve just broken down and cried. There were so many details I had planned that I have totally run out of time for!
Last night, I was up until 1:30 in the morning, in a hotel room with my bridesmaids, trying to assemble programs. And everything was going wrong, and we didn’t know how we were going to finish them in time, and finally, I was like, “You know what? We’re done with these! I’m so over programs!” So I threw them in the trash, and we all just started laughing. My dad and brother went to Kinko’s this morning and had a bunch of programs printed off… just basic, one page programs. This is totally unlike me and my obsession with paper projects! But really… I’m just over it! All of it! Somehow, with or without cute programs, even if everything that could possibly goes wrong goes wrong, I’ll be married tonight! So today, I plan to let go! It’s time to stop and enjoy the ride, because I know it will go by way too fast! Read more…
