Mrs. Cardigan's Picture
Mrs. Cardigan, Austin Age and Occupation: 21, Student/Soon-to-be Special Education Teacher Fiance's Age and Occupation: 20, Student/Soon-to-be Accounting Systems Analyst Engagement Date: August 16, 2009 Wedding Date: January 2011 Venue: Vintage Villas About Me: I'm a native Austinite who was raised as a die-hard Aggie. Luckily, I'm a pretty persuasive girl because I managed to convince my high school boyfriend (now fiance!), Mr. Cardigan, to ditch his hardcore Longhorn ways and join me up at A&M, where we currently reside with our adorable dogs, Cullen & Ranger. We're currently planning a bright, cheery wedding with a ridiculous amount of DIY projects that I can't wait to tackle! I love crafting in any form, reading, and margaritas (I think I love them the most!). Organization is what keeps me sane and I love helping others, which is probably why I ended up as an education major. It gets a little chaotic sometimes when you're planning a wedding among all of the papers, projects, finals, and certification exams, but we're having the time of our lives and we can't wait to get started on our journey as husband and wife - and we're so excited to share our wedding with the hive!
About Mrs. Cardigan

We have been looking for Mr. Cardigan’s suit for months. MONTHS, I tell you. We have an extremely specific idea of exactly what we want, and apparently not many people make it. Our criteria is:

  • Need a vest & pants
  • Charcoal
  • NO PINSTRIPES
  • 5 button vest

Almost every gray suit that we found had pinstripes. Weird, right? Either that or it was like a million dollars. We checked Kohl’s, Macy’s, Target (they actually have a great one, but the pants aren’t available anymore), Men’s Warehouse, JCPenney, and about a million other stores. Of course, Mr. Cardigan isn’t very motivated to look – he keeps telling me “We have so much time!” And then I remind him that “so much time” is actually only 5 months and going by FAST! So, since he has this illusion of having forever, I was the only one really doing any looking. He went to the stores with me, but he was never really motivated to look hard or to buy.

Mrs. Knitting, Toronto Age and Occupation: 24, Student Recruitment Assistant Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Neuroscience PhD Candidate Engagement Date: October 2009 Wedding Date: December 2010 Venue: University of Toronto Faculty Club About Me: I'm a pearl wearing, etiquette book reading Toronto girl who loves cooking and baking, museums, charm bracelets, and collecting books on Jackie Kennedy (a lot). I've been known to spend Sunday mornings at the antique market, Wednesday evenings at sister sushi dinners, and any bit of spare time reading. After six and a half years of many late night walks, watching DVDs together in bed, travelling to places like New York, and Tobermory, doing Sudokus together on the couch, lots of Indian food, the occasional yoga class, moving in together and so much more, Mr. Knitting and I are planning a cozy Christmasy (it's a word!), vintage wedding in Toronto complete with many DIY projects (eek!) and lots of help from our amazing group of family and friends.

To Kerchief

July 9th, 2010 @ 5:18 pm by Mrs. Knitting

As you may or may not know from this post, I’d had been trying to decide whether or not to go ahead with the Ukrainian tradition of having the bride’s veil removed at the end of the night and being replaced with a kerchief, thus indicating that she is no longer a bride, but a wife. A lot of you gave me some really good advice about how to approach this tradition in a way I’m comfortable with and I have now decided to go ahead with this tradition. Now I want to show you the scarf I’ll be using.

Here it is:

I'm a crazy-organized planner at heart, and I am a great lover of random trivia, books, chocolate, blogs, new and exciting adventures, mockumentary-style television, and anything heavily flavored with bright orange fake cheese powder. We're planning a festive and fun mini-destination wedding in the place where we met: fabulous Pittsburgh, PA! I can't wait to marry the man I love!
About Mrs. Octopus

Ms. Stripes, Los Angeles Age and Occupation: 29, Costume Designer/Stylist Fiancee's Age and Occupation: 29, Chef Engagement Date: June 23, 2009 Wedding Date: September 2010 Venue: Heritage Square Museum About Me: I’m a type A creative with a messy streak, a loud mouth, and an uncanny knack for combining clashing patterns. I can usually be found with my nose in a book, my feet (or at least my toes) on the ground, my head in the clouds, and my arm around the prettiest girl you ever saw- aka Fiancee Stripes. Together we’re planning a FUN vintage/modern French carnival wedding extravaganza and rockin’ dance party on a dime. (Say that three times fast!) Good coffee, long lists, Uniball pens, and my iPhone keep me sane, and making art, making trouble, and making out keep me happy! I love urban adventures, bike rides that end with afternoon drinks, breakfast for dinner, beautiful light, photography, travel, my furry family, and of course, my beautiful fiancee! I’m super excited to be here and can’t wait to share all our adventures as we craft a joyful, budget-friendly, design-savvy and all-around AWESOME wedding!
About Ms. Stripes

All over our damn wedding checklist. Ha! Take that.

Oh. Hiya! Remember me? Yup. I used to have big deep thoughts about all this wedding planning jazz, but now as the date fast approaches, I just have glue gun burns, blistered fingers, sore wrists, and a quickly shrinking to do list. Hallelujah.

Yup. We’re up to our elbows in crafts and (mostly) loving it. We’re printing invites. My bouquet is nearly complete. Our coffee table is a crane factory. We have table cloths & runners & napkins in the works. Our wedding ensembles are nearly complete. Big sigh. Sitting here surround by all the crafty components of our wedding, I can finally see how it’s all gonna come together and I’m pretty sure it’s gonna be awesome.

Now I don’t really want to ruin the fun and post teaser pics until all these projects are in the can, but I also don’t wanna be a meanie…

So I’ll leave you with these pictures of F Stripes’ superfantasticandmagical wedding shoes:

Mrs. Spaniel's Picture
Mrs. Spaniel, Los Angeles Age and Occupation: 28, Law Student Fiance's Age and Occupation: 29, Psychologist Wedding Date: March 2010 Venue: Calamigos Ranch About Me: I'm a third-year law student trying to balance graduating with starting my career, keeping up a relationship, and, oh yeah, planning an Old World, multi-cultural, "mountain lodge" wedding for 180 guests! A South Asian Jewish girl getting ready to marry my handsome Catholic Dane, I'm hoping to blend our cultures in our wedding just a bit more gently than by providing samosas as appetizers and offering æbleskiver for dessert. (Although that would also be awesome.)
About Mrs. Spaniel

After the ceremony, the cocktail hour began. Mr. Spaniel and I didn’t want to miss our entire cocktail hour with our guests, and had planned our entrance to the reception area and first dance for only fifteen minutes in as a result. While we waited for our cue, Mr. Spaniel and I took a few minutes to sit and reflect on the huge step we had just taken.

I live in a house truck and wear flip-flops more often than shoes. In my old life I was a high school Spanish teacher in love with a crazy guy who lived off-the grid on a farm in New Hampshire. But, we decided to mix things up a bit, quit our jobs and move to New Zealand. My southern hemisphere lifestyle involves growing veggies, teaching, running our small non-profit, and surfing. I love laughing, singing, playing, and the inspirational Mr. Veggie (of course!). For our wedding, I am committed to throwing a killer party that celebrates our values without breaking the bank. Look forward to an eco-thrifty summer-campy weekend-long extravaganza.

Veggie Goes Glam

July 9th, 2010 @ 3:49 pm by Mrs. Veggie

Today was a big day. Not only did the heat wave gripping the East Coast finally start to drop off a little, but I also finally got to make a trip to Honesdale, Pennsylvania. The site of Veggie wedding bliss just a few short weeks from now. It’s about time I saw the venue, don’t you think? Since we were going up there, I figured I might as well try to squeeze in a hair and make up trial. So Mama Veggie and I hopped in the car, on only the second hottest day of the year, and took a short road trip to make me G-L-A-M. O-R. OUS. (Yes, I’m singing right now, aren’t you?)

My fiance is a quick-witted Jersey boy, a self-proclaimed Foodie and the funniest man I've ever met. Together we love exploring the city streets embarking on our next misadventure---and yes, this often involves eating off food carts and trying "the next big thing". I'm the girl in the sundress, snapping photos and collecting trinkets of memorabilia along the way. As a girly girl at heart, I am excited about our romantic natural island wedding incorporating our American & Filipino traditions.

Wedding: The Look

July 9th, 2010 @ 3:01 pm by Mrs. Sand Dollar

My name is Sand Dollar, and I’m a planning addict. I’m the kind of girl who gets things done as soon as the ink is dry on my to-do list. Procrastination is never a problem. But what does that have to do with this post? Well, here I was more than five months away from our wedding day, and I already had my whole look bought and paid for. Now I’m just waiting for the dresses to arrive so I can put it all together and get those suckers altered! Here’s what’s goin’ down:

I am a Sunny So-Cal bred gal who trudged across the country to follow her love of psychology and ended up finding a partner in the process. I am overly passionate about anything I involve myself with. I am an activist, a foodie, a reality TV watching junkie, an over-analyzer, a photography obsesser, and am utterly cheesy to the core. This is a story of what happens when a boy and a girl meet, fall in love over academic dorkiness, and a shared love for life. I fear summer for one major reason! Les Mosquitoes!!! They find me, they eat me, and they leave a mess of destruction behind them. It’s sad because I rarely feel them on my skin. So I can’t ward them off before they eat me. I have tried everything: the belt clip that fans repellent around me, citronella candles, deet sprays, etc. I won’t even start itching until the next day. About 12 hours after a bite, I see these…

About Mrs. Pin Cushion

In a move very apropos to my Pin Cushion moniker, our wedding is filled with fabrics. Lots of fabrics. And not soft, sophisticated, romantic fabrics. The Pin Cushion fabrics are in your face. I'm a self-proclaimed attention-w****. If it involves a camera, I'm in front of it! You'll never meet a girlier tomboy than me. I can go toe to toe with any guy on the subject of college football, and lift more than any girl in my gym, all without chipping a nail. I hope to someday be the only person you want delivering your sports news. My FI and I are the loving parents of three Labrador Retrievers (one of each color) and are planning a "Southern Romantic Charm" wedding in the beautiful, historic city of Savannah. I'm not extreme in anything except moderation... and wedding planning.
About Mrs. Labrador

Mr. Lab and I knew early on that we wanted to exchange gifts on the wedding day. I came up with my gift for him soon after getting engaged. It was SO hard to keep it a secret until the wedding day. I think he knew what was up the day I went to go “make” it though…

As for his gift to me, it was so sweet I had a hard time believing he came up with it all by himself! Of course, he ran it by FMIL & FSIL Lab for their approval first, but still, it was impressive.

Mrs. Earrings's Picture
Mrs. Earrings, Fresno, CA/ Nelson, New Zealand Age and Occupation: 20, Student, Wannabe Writer Fiance's Age and Occupation: 19, Photography Student Engagement Date: February 14, 2010 Wedding Date: January 2011 Venue: Gardens of the World About Me: I'm a girl from down under who grew up in Indonesia and I'm marrying a California boy. I'm addicted to all things sweet, have never met a chocolate silk pie than can get the better of me, and have dreams of one day being a fulltime novelist. I go weak in the knees for lace, tea cups, and a beautifully crafted sentence. When I get excited about something (whether it is historical linguistics or the Beatles) I tend to go overboard in research, and planning this wedding is no different. Mr. Earrings is my high school sweetheart, my best friend, and somehow we combine all our quirks into one big happy mess.
About Mrs. Earrings

My grandmother decided she would be the one to marry Mr E and I way back before our official engagement. To be fair, she did “ask” us first (in the kind of way that you can’t say “no” without hurting her feelings). At the time we said something along the lines of: “Thanks Grandma for offering to do it, we will have a think about it and see what will work out best.” Which she took as a “yes” answer. And then the problems began.

Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love my grandmother, admire her for all she has done in her life, adore her lamb roast and her hugs, BUT I also have learned very quickly that she is not right for marrying us. Grandma has been marrying couples for years, often in the very same garden that Mr E and I have chosen for our venue. She is no stranger to wedding ceremonies: she has seen the good, the bad, the ugly, and she has opinions about them all—which brings us to the problems. Because of all those ceremonies she has taken, and all the things she has perceived “wrong” about what was included and what was not, when she assumed that she would be marrying Mr E and I, she immediately saw it as an opportunity to finally run “the perfect ceremony” according to her views.

Bee Love

July 9th, 2010 @ 12:54 pm by Mrs. Starfish

Over the past few weeks we’ve received quite a few gifts, due to our recent showers. Pretty much every day I went home, there seemed to be some fun package on our doorstep. I’ve been really overwhelmed at the generosity of our friends and family members!

Then, as I was opening the mail one day, another special package arrived. I don’t think I could have been more excited for a piece of paper. It was the form to reserve our college campus for photos. Just a few weeks ago I had no idea I needed this, and if it wasn’t for the thoughtfulness of a Newport photographer, I never would have known I needed it, and quite possibly could have been kicked off the grounds of the campus on our wedding day during our planned photo session.
