I'm addicted to all things sweet, have never met a chocolate silk pie than can get the better of me, and have dreams of one day being a fulltime novelist. I go weak in the knees for lace, tea cups, and a beautifully crafted sentence. When I get excited about something (whether it is historical linguistics or the Beatles) I tend to go overboard in research, and planning this wedding is no different. Mr. Earrings is my high school sweetheart, my best friend, and somehow we combine all our quirks into one big happy mess.

A Lavender Love

July 8th, 2010 @ 5:43 pm by Mrs. Earrings

I have hinted at my love for lavender briefly, but its place in our wedding will be so prominent that I think it deserves a whole post to itself.

We decided early on in the planning that we would leave the bouquet and Mr E’s buttonhole up to a florist to save stress, but that we would take care of the reception centrepieces ourselves, not only for our budget’s sake, but also because we don’t see the point in paying someone to do something that we are capable of doing ourselves. I don’t have visions of complicated arrangements in my head, my idea of centrepieces is simple bunches of whatever I can get from the supermarket or farmers’ market stuck in mason jars. But I do want these centrepieces to have something that ties them all together, and that something is lavender.

As a girly girl at heart, I am excited about our romantic natural island wedding incorporating our American & Filipino traditions.

After receiving the quote from Wildflower Linen, I decided that I should explore other options besides renting—either buying cheap napkins or making them.

If I bought, I would look for napkins from one of the discount stores like Kohls or Overstock.com on sale—I’m thinking like 70% off!

Mrs. Locket, Ithaca, NY Age and Occupation: 25, Research Technician Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28, former Banker hoping to become an Officer of the Law Engagement Date: June 15, 2009 Wedding Date: September 2010 Venue: Heron Hill Winery About Me: I am a little bit of everything all rolled into one: A girly gal with rough edges---I love to get dolled up just as much as I enjoy throwing on some sneaks to toss a ball with Mr. Locket. My love for crafting and creating is quite apparent and I've been referred to as a Wonder Woman/Martha Stewart/Stepford Wife hybrid (yup, I'll take that as a compliment). I adore sewing, photography, sculpture, good eats (mmm tapas), baking, snugging and oh, pretty much everything in between (there's not much I dislike). I am super excited to be planning our vineyard wedding and couldn't be happier to be marrying Mr. Locket. We are a quirky, fun-loving couple residing in our college town with our two pups Maple and Molly. We love to go on hikes, visit our local dog park and to bask in the beauty of many of the local falls and gorges. We are an indecisive pair, but together we somehow manage to make up our minds (it's the easy stuff that's tricky).
About Mrs. Locket

In my last post I let you in on my secret obsession for hair flowers and mentioned I would be testing the waters in hair-flower making territory. What I didn’t tell you is that I wrote that post many months ago and that my experimenting happened way back in December 2009. If you’re interested in seeing what I was able to come up with, step on into my time-machine and let’s go back to December 7, 2009.

Three Years Down the Road

July 8th, 2010 @ 4:39 pm by Mrs. Lemon

Yesterday marked anniversary #3 for the Lemon family. THREE YEARS! I can hardly believe the time has passed by so quickly! Trust me, if you think your wedding planning period flies by in a flash, you’ll be utterly astounded when you start flying through the years and actually need to start looking up the appropriate gifting source for each occasion. And since I didn’t have any leather on hand for Mr. Lemon yesterday, I made him a virtual gift… our own Google Search Story:

(P.S. you can make your own search story by going here!)

If you happened to be uber bored one day and chanced upon my the Lemon archives here at Weddingbee, all of that would make perfect sense to you… except for that last line.

Family Wedding Photos

July 8th, 2010 @ 3:51 pm by Mrs. Trail Mix

A long, long time ago, in a land far-away otherwise known as my “Pre-Wedding Days” (there is definitely a divide in my mind between the Pre-Wedding Days and Post-Wedding Days) I mentioned how I was on the hunt for family wedding photos to display at the wedding.

What I did not talk about was how I planned to display them because truthfully, I had no freakin’ idea. I did eventually track down all seven wedding photos of our parents and grandparents (my grandfather re-married after my grandmother passed away, hence the seven photos instead of six).

My original idea was to frame each one individually and display them together but I couldn’t quite visualize where or how this would happen at our outdoor, tented wedding. It seemed perfect if I had a mantelpiece or some other display-type area in an indoor space but because we were outside, I was a bit stumped. Plus, buying seven frames was starting to sound pricey, which held me back as well (although ironically enough, what I ended up doing cost way more than buying the seven frames. Oh well…).

Minimoonin’

July 8th, 2010 @ 3:29 pm by Mrs. Octopus

Back in the day when our wedding planning still mostly consisted of elaborate fantasizing, Mr. O and I had BIG plans for our honeymoon. He and I both love to travel, and we saw the post-wedding vacation as a chance to get crazy-extravagant and take the trip of a lifetime. We talked a big game about touring Asia (specifically Japan and Thailand), hiking to Machu Picchu, or eating our way through France and Italy. Sigh. Swoon.

At this point, though, our plans have been revised significantly. Reasons?

  1. Financially, we are tapped out. The money for a lavish (or even a modest!) international trip simply does not exist at this point.
  2. I suspect (and many of my recently-married friends have confirmed) that we will mostly want to veg out and unwind after the wedding, and if we were to travel abroad, vegging out would not be on the agenda.
  3. But mostly, it’s the money thing.

We really didn’t want to completely forgo a honeymoon, though.

We're having a big-time party on a small-time budget, and I promise to show you a boot-scootin', barbecue-eatin', finger-lickin' good time! Mr. Sand Dollar and I spend most of our time on DIY projects or traipsing around the outdoors with our two pooches Rory and Juno. I'm looking forward to sharing our journey with all of you!

That’s right, folks! I finally had a brainwave when it came to what would be lining the ceremony aisle. See, we’re having a standing ceremony, with only a handful of chairs up front for our elderly guests (please don’t worry, it’ll only be for 10 minutes tops so we’re not asking way too much from people). So how do we keep everyone from standing in the aisle?

Lessons from the Bridal Shoot

July 8th, 2010 @ 2:49 pm by Mrs. Oyster

The day of my bridal portrait shoot I was a harried, hot mess. It was a million degrees here in Dallas. I had to finish the flower I’d made for my hair in the morning. I had a million errands to run which included going to the hair/makeup appointment, picking up the bouquet, getting a manicure, at some point I needed to eat something, and of course, the portraits themselves which were located an hour away. I was hot, stressed out, tired, and alone, and I never could get it together.

My makeup/hair appointment started about an hour late (so much for the usually-punctual Miss Oyster!). I’d been so stressed and preoccupied lately that I’d forgotten to actually pick a hairstyle and just said, “You know, lots of curls.” It was so hot and humid and my hair appointment so much earlier than the portraits that she put the curls in pins, which, when taken out a few minutes before the portrait shoot, looked kind of weird. And they fell five minutes into the photo shoot, because the photographer’s a/c shut off when I got there.

I didn’t pick a makeup look either, and when she asked if I wanted a natural look or something “more formal”, I picked the latter.

I’m a sucker for trendied-up comfort foods and old family anecdotes; I have an affinity for adjectives, alliteration, eyelet and earl grey; and I live for quality time with family and friends. I never guessed I’d marry my “high school sweetheart", but when it turned out to be my funny, techie, loyal Mr. Thimble I was committed for life.
