Wedding Date: October 2010Venue: Ladder 15 RestaurantAbout Me: I am originally from the Midwest, but I love being an East Coast transplant! Mr. Socks and I are foodies and winos to the core---give us a hunk of cheese, some charcuterie and a glass of wine and we could die happy. We have two mischievous Wire Fox Terriers with completely opposite personalities but with a shared love of uprooting anything in our garden. Our backyard garden includes everything from tomatoes and peppers to a fig tree, blueberries, blackberries and raspberries! I love cooking, indie music, and spending time in our wedding city of choice---Philly!
Today I’m thinking about the “tone” of our wedding. I have to continually remind myself that we are not getting married in a field or vineyard like we originally planned.
We’re also not getting married in a barn or a park or on a farm.
We are getting married in the city, and I want our wedding to LOOK like we’re getting married in the city! Yes, I still gravitate toward cotton/craspedia/ranunculus bouquets:

Mrs. Locket, Ithaca, NYAge and Occupation: 25, Research TechnicianFiance's Age and Occupation: 28, former Banker hoping to become an Officer of the LawEngagement Date: June 15, 2009Wedding Date: September 2010Venue: Heron Hill WineryAbout Me: I am a little bit of everything all rolled into one: A girly gal with rough edges---I love to get dolled up just as much as I enjoy throwing on some sneaks to toss a ball with Mr. Locket. My love for crafting and creating is quite apparent and I've been referred to as a Wonder Woman/Martha Stewart/Stepford Wife hybrid (yup, I'll take that as a compliment). I adore sewing, photography, sculpture, good eats (mmm tapas), baking, snugging and oh, pretty much everything in between (there's not much I dislike). I am super excited to be planning our vineyard wedding and couldn't be happier to be marrying Mr. Locket. We are a quirky, fun-loving couple residing in our college town with our two pups Maple and Molly. We love to go on hikes, visit our local dog park and to bask in the beauty of many of the local falls and gorges. We are an indecisive pair, but together we somehow manage to make up our minds (it's the easy stuff that's tricky).
It was June 15, 2009 and I remember the day like it had just happened yesterday. My day started off just like any typical Monday, groaning at the alarm clock and rolling out of bed to drag myself to work. Mondays are the worst—it’s the start of a long work week and the end of a brief weekend vacation from the lab. I know I said I remembered the day like it was yesterday, but I only remember the end of the day in full detail.
My work day ended and I headed down to meet my then boyfriend (Mr. Locket) who was patiently waiting for me outside of my building. To my dismay he had both of the dogs in the car which only meant one thing—trip to the dog park. Ughhhh! I remember being a little upset, (we were supposed to head straight to the gym) but I got over it soon enough and didn’t complain.
We arrived at the dog park where I spotted a few small pups that our little dog could play with. I was super excited to take her over, but boyfriend Locket was reluctant at first saying that he would prefer to go by the lake. With a little nagging/begging on my part he quickly caved and let us bring her over to the little dogs for a bit; (un)fortunately Maple was bored with the small dogs and we proceeded to head to the lake.
It was a beautiful day with the hot summer sun shining and a gentle breeze running through the trees and the dogs were eager to get to the water. The funny thing was that boyfriend Locket wasn’t so eager and he asked that we sit down at a nearby bench to let the pups “rest”. Being the polite girlfriend, I sat down next to him and patiently waited for the dogs to “rest”. Read more…
Mrs. Pashmina, NYC/Catalina Island, CAAge and Occupation: 28, Arts EducationFiance's Age and Occupation: 34, IT AdministratorEngagement Date: April 26th, 2009Wedding Date: July 2010Venue: Catalina Country Club, Catalina Island, CaliforniaAbout Me: I'm a laid-back Cali girl who moved to NYC for school, and ended up staying for love. My fiance is a quick-witted Jersey boy, a self-proclaimed Foodie and the funniest man I've ever met. Together we love exploring the city streets embarking on our next misadventure---and yes, this often involves eating off food carts and trying "the next big thing". I'm the girl in the sundress, snapping photos and collecting trinkets of memorabilia along the way. As a girly girl at heart, I am excited about our romantic natural island wedding incorporating our American & Filipino traditions.
Mrs. Cardigan, AustinAge and Occupation: 21, Student/Soon-to-be Special Education TeacherFiance's Age and Occupation: 20, Student/Soon-to-be Accounting Systems AnalystEngagement Date: August 16, 2009Wedding Date: January 2011Venue: Vintage VillasAbout Me: I'm a native Austinite who was raised as a die-hard Aggie. Luckily, I'm a pretty persuasive girl because I managed to convince my high school boyfriend (now fiance!), Mr. Cardigan, to ditch his hardcore Longhorn ways and join me up at A&M, where we currently reside with our adorable dogs, Cullen & Ranger. We're currently planning a bright, cheery wedding with a ridiculous amount of DIY projects that I can't wait to tackle! I love crafting in any form, reading, and margaritas (I think I love them the most!). Organization is what keeps me sane and I love helping others, which is probably why I ended up as an education major. It gets a little chaotic sometimes when you're planning a wedding among all of the papers, projects, finals, and certification exams, but we're having the time of our lives and we can't wait to get started on our journey as husband and wife - and we're so excited to share our wedding with the hive!
It’s about to get a bit mushy up in here. Just warning y’all.
Recently, I was in the wedding of my best friend (and bridesmaid!) Audrey.
That’s us at her bachelorette party!
And let me just tell you, she was hands down the most amazing and relaxed bride I have ever seen in my life. I was the MOH in her wedding, and she just blew me away with how awesome she was. Seriously - she’s my idol.
Mrs. Guinea Pig, Baltimore, MD Age and Occupation: 26, PhD student Fiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Operations Director at a non-profit Engagement Date: December 25, 2008 Wedding Date: May 2010Venue: The Chesapeake Bay Beach Club About Me: I'm a tomboy science nerd whose girly side has made a startling appearance thanks to wedding planning! I love to bake, knit and sew but I also ride a motorcycle (that Mr. Guinea Pig wouldn't touch with a 10 foot pole). We live with our three crazy cats and love to read, travel, watch movies, and do home improvement projects together! My parents/family are Canadian but I'm definitely American, although I've lived in 5 different countries, 6 different states, and speak Russian fluently. Mr. GP and I met online (did I mention I'm a scientist?) and had a whirlwind romance - now we can't wait to get married & celebrate with all our friends and family in a blue and yellow waterfront affair!
In case you missed the first installment of our honeymoon recap, we Guinea Pigs went to Amelia Island, FL for a week of sun, relaxation, and fun activities!
We hung out on the beach,

Mrs. Avocado, SeattleAge and Occupation: 23, StudentFiance's Age and Occupation: 26, ConsultantEngagement Date: July 27, 2008Wedding Date: October, 2008Blogging Since: June 30, 2008Venue: LDS Seattle Temple & Hotel 1000About Me: Somehow this little farm girl found herself a genuine Pole to fall in love and eventually move away to Poland with. I am an LDS bride attempting to plan a private religious ceremony, ring ceremony, seated reception for 100, and an open house while coordinating for guests flying in from across the United States and as far away as Poland. I try to avoid fads, excess waste, and saturated fat. I strongly endorse photography, DDR, calorie counting, rss feeds, cooking, and utilizing your resources.
When I said goodbye that one time I told you I’d be back every once in awhile, and I meant it. This time it’s to share glimpse of my SIL’s wedding invite, a wedding we will be flying out to Poland(!!!) to attend this October. I am beyond excited. Mr. Avo frequently tells me to stop getting my hopes up about the event, because I talk about it as though it’s going to be the BEST WEDDING OF ALL TIME. I have no idea what weddings are like there, but I’m not sure that they are the often-over-the-top DIY plan-your-brains-out type of shindig that we like to throw in the States.
The invitation we got in the mail was far from boring though. Look, a wax seal! (Albeit a broken one, it had to travel a long ways all the way down to Dallas to find us.) The paper it was printed on was really cool as well, I’m not sure where you would find paper goods like that in the US.
Mrs. Knitting, TorontoAge and Occupation: 24, Student Recruitment Assistant
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Neuroscience PhD CandidateEngagement Date: October 2009Wedding Date: December 2010Venue: University of Toronto Faculty Club
About Me: I'm a pearl wearing, etiquette book reading Toronto girl who loves cooking and baking, museums, charm bracelets, and collecting books on Jackie Kennedy (a lot). I've been known to spend Sunday mornings at the antique market, Wednesday evenings at sister sushi dinners, and any bit of spare time reading. After six and a half years of many late night walks, watching DVDs together in bed, travelling to places like New York, and Tobermory, doing Sudokus together on the couch, lots of Indian food, the occasional yoga class, moving in together and so much more, Mr. Knitting and I are planning a cozy Christmasy (it's a word!), vintage wedding in Toronto complete with many DIY projects (eek!) and lots of help from our amazing group of family and friends.
My mom is totally obsessed with all things Indian. She loves Indian food, music, movies, culture, interior design, and most importantly for this post, clothes. My mom loves wearing Indian clothing and she can often be found dressed in Indian clothing at formal events.
Mrs. Earrings, Fresno, CA/ Nelson, New ZealandAge and Occupation: 20, Student, Wannabe Writer
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 19, Photography StudentEngagement Date: February 14, 2010Wedding Date: January 2011Venue: Gardens of the WorldAbout Me: I'm a girl from down under who grew up in Indonesia and I'm marrying a California boy. I'm addicted to all things sweet, have never met a chocolate silk pie than can get the better of me, and have dreams of one day being a fulltime novelist. I go weak in the knees for lace, tea cups, and a beautifully crafted sentence. When I get excited about something (whether it is historical linguistics or the Beatles) I tend to go overboard in research, and planning this wedding is no different. Mr. Earrings is my high school sweetheart, my best friend, and somehow we combine all our quirks into one big happy mess.
I’m talking about alcohol here, people. We have decided to have what they call a “dry” wedding. No alcohol. Nada. Zip. I’m actually even a bit nervous to post this, as alcohol seems to be one of those things that stirs strong opinions up. But here I go. (Note: In NZ the legal age to buy alcohol is 18, not 21 so our age or the law is not a factor in the following discussion.)
We made this decision based on a number of different reasons which, when we weighed everything up, showed us that a “dry” wedding was really the best option for us. Now, Mr E and I definitely enjoy a drink now and then. A glass of red wine and a book is my idea of a nice way to relax, and Mr E is quite the cocktail connoisseur. Alcohol in our “normal” day to day lives has its place. But its place at our wedding? This comes with some problems.
Allow me to elaborate: First, there is the issue of our budget. Read more…

Whenever someone gets into a relationship that starts getting serious—like, spend-every-moment-of-every-day-with-each-other kind of serious—usually that someone has a friend (or mother) that says, “Don’t lose sight of everyone else in your life. Don’t ignore your friends. Balance is key.”
While I completely agree with this sentiment, I also know that Mr. Socks is my best friend, and if all I could ever have in life was him, I’d be okay with that. When I graduated college, I moved in with Mr. Socks and quickly fell into a lifestyle very different from my friends’. Being homeowners in suburbia was a very bittersweet thing at first: I didn’t see my friends in the city as often, but it brought Mr. Socks and I closer together.
At that point, we had only been together roughly six months, but living together was so easy, so natural, and so fun. It wasn’t long before we adopted our two wire fox terrier puppies: Wrigley and Zoe.
Mrs. Turtle, Central CaliforniaAge and Occupation: 21, Art Student/TeacherFiance's Age and Occupation: 22, English StudentEngagement Date: August 16, 2008Wedding Date: July 2010Venue: Mr. Turtle's Grandparents' backyard, Arroyo Grande, CAAbout Me: I am a California girl who loves the beach and the mountains, but is quite satisfied living right in the middle where I can enjoy the best of both worlds. I am happiest when traveling to faraway places, wandering through museums, watching old movies, or baking up a storm. Mr. Turtle and I are high school sweethearts and fellow book nerds who both drive Mini Coopers and are most likely to be found browsing in antique stores. We're having so much fun planning our European garden wedding with a vintage twist and can't wait to share more of life's adventures together!
Now that the countdown ’til our wedding day is in the single digits… my life, as well as the lives of those around me, has become an intense whirlwind of last minute DIY projects, never-ending decisions to make, and general wedding craziness. In the midst of it all, I am going to try my very best to keep you updated on what we’ve been accomplishing! It’s the least I can do, right?
Well the other day I decided to give a little makeover to the vintage cake topper that Mr. Turtle picked up at an antique store almost a year ago. I thought it would be super cute to make the little bride and groom look a bit more like us!

Have you checked out WeddingMapper.com yet? It is really a neat site. My favorite part is the Create Your Own Wedding Map. It provides you with a customizable and interactive wedding map where you can add locations of your wedding ceremony and reception. This is how: Give your map a title (like your and your groom’s name), add a new location (add the url and a description), select an icon that fits the location (a symbol for a church, restaurant, bar, beach, airport, hotel, etc), then add this place to your very own map.

I heart cooking, sewing, baking, decorating and making sure we have a hand-crafted home. The best part about the wedding is I get to incorporate it all! I make sure I put my art degree to good use by screen printing, craft knife cutting, and a whole lotta graphic design. We're having a big-time party on a small-time budget, and I promise to show you a boot-scootin', barbecue-eatin', finger-lickin' good time! Mr. Sand Dollar and I spend most of our time on DIY projects or traipsing around the outdoors with our two pooches Rory and Juno. I'm looking forward to sharing our journey with all of you!
Turn on the power of shining light! Sorry, couldn’t help myself. I used to be so jealous of my sister when she got a Lite Brite for Christmas; I played with it all the time. If you’re wondering what you’re looking at, here’s a glimpse of them in full light.
