Mrs. Cardigan, AustinAge and Occupation: 21, Student/Soon-to-be Special Education TeacherFiance's Age and Occupation: 20, Student/Soon-to-be Accounting Systems AnalystEngagement Date: August 16, 2009Wedding Date: January 2011Venue: Vintage VillasAbout Me: I'm a native Austinite who was raised as a die-hard Aggie. Luckily, I'm a pretty persuasive girl because I managed to convince my high school boyfriend (now fiance!), Mr. Cardigan, to ditch his hardcore Longhorn ways and join me up at A&M, where we currently reside with our adorable dogs, Cullen & Ranger. We're currently planning a bright, cheery wedding with a ridiculous amount of DIY projects that I can't wait to tackle! I love crafting in any form, reading, and margaritas (I think I love them the most!). Organization is what keeps me sane and I love helping others, which is probably why I ended up as an education major. It gets a little chaotic sometimes when you're planning a wedding among all of the papers, projects, finals, and certification exams, but we're having the time of our lives and we can't wait to get started on our journey as husband and wife - and we're so excited to share our wedding with the hive!
I’m so proud of myself. I finally made a decision about my hair! If you’ll remember, I was having a hard time deciding what to do with my hair for the wedding. But y’all are pretty amazing and really helped me out on making my decision. After reading through all the comments, it was pretty obvious that the favorite was the gorgeous Serena Van Der Woodsen style from Gossip Girl!
I was really excited when I finally chose to use this hairstyle, partially because I love it, and partially because it officially resolves my “hair flower vs. headband” debate!
Mrs. Locket, Ithaca, NYAge and Occupation: 25, Research TechnicianFiance's Age and Occupation: 28, former Banker hoping to become an Officer of the LawEngagement Date: June 15, 2009Wedding Date: September 2010Venue: Heron Hill WineryAbout Me: I am a little bit of everything all rolled into one: A girly gal with rough edges---I love to get dolled up just as much as I enjoy throwing on some sneaks to toss a ball with Mr. Locket. My love for crafting and creating is quite apparent and I've been referred to as a Wonder Woman/Martha Stewart/Stepford Wife hybrid (yup, I'll take that as a compliment). I adore sewing, photography, sculpture, good eats (mmm tapas), baking, snugging and oh, pretty much everything in between (there's not much I dislike). I am super excited to be planning our vineyard wedding and couldn't be happier to be marrying Mr. Locket. We are a quirky, fun-loving couple residing in our college town with our two pups Maple and Molly. We love to go on hikes, visit our local dog park and to bask in the beauty of many of the local falls and gorges. We are an indecisive pair, but together we somehow manage to make up our minds (it's the easy stuff that's tricky).
At last… I can finally begin my long-awaited recap of my Vegas Bachelorette Party Weekend.
Day One:
We (sister Locket and BM Catie) left Newark at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 7 and landed in Las Vegas by 2:30 p.m. (that’s 7.5 hours of air travel, since it was 5:30 p.m. East Coast time). We arrived with hungry tummies, eager eyes, to slot machines and a “Welcome to Las Vegas” sign in the airport!
Mrs. Veggie, Raglan, New Zealand/Scranton, PAAge and Occupation: 27, Director of Small Non-ProfitFiance's Age and Occupation: 42, PhD Student & FarmerEngagement Date: June 13, 2009Wedding Date: August 2010Venue: Indian Head Camp, Honesdale Pennsylvania
About Me: I am a tree-huggin' farmer turned enthusiastic wedding-planner. I live in a house truck and wear flip-flops more often than shoes. In my old life I was a high school Spanish teacher in love with a crazy guy who lived off-the grid on a farm in New Hampshire. But, we decided to mix things up a bit, quit our jobs and move to New Zealand. My southern hemisphere lifestyle involves growing veggies, teaching, running our small non-profit, and surfing. I love laughing, singing, playing, and the inspirational Mr. Veggie (of course!). For our wedding, I am committed to throwing a killer party that celebrates our values without breaking the bank. Look forward to an eco-thrifty summer-campy weekend-long extravaganza.
My bridesmaids (Veggie Sisters Kale, Eggplant, Carrot), Momma Veggie, and little brother Bridesman Veggie threw me a fantastic bridal shower at the Veggie parents’ house in New Jersey. Read more…
Ms. Stripes, Los AngelesAge and Occupation: 29, Costume Designer/StylistFiancee's Age and Occupation: 29, ChefEngagement Date: June 23, 2009Wedding Date: September 2010Venue: Heritage Square MuseumAbout Me: I’m a type A creative with a messy streak, a loud mouth, and an uncanny knack for combining clashing patterns. I can usually be found with my nose in a book, my feet (or at least my toes) on the ground, my head in the clouds, and my arm around the prettiest girl you ever saw- aka
Fiancee Stripes. Together we’re planning a FUN vintage/modern French carnival wedding extravaganza and rockin’ dance party on a dime. (Say that three times fast!) Good coffee, long lists, Uniball pens, and my iPhone keep me sane, and making art, making trouble, and making out keep me happy! I love urban adventures, bike rides that end with afternoon drinks, breakfast for dinner, beautiful light, photography, travel, my furry family, and of course, my beautiful fiancee! I’m super excited to be here and can’t wait to share all our adventures as we craft a joyful, budget-friendly, design-savvy and all-around AWESOME wedding!
This weekend was one of the last 7 or so weekends until the wedding. That’s not a lot of time, folks. And we still have A LOT to do. Like invitations. And we got very little (wedding related) stuff done this weekend. And that’s okay. Because life happens while we’re busy planning weddings. And it’s important to actually be here for it.
We did have dinner with dear friends who are moving back to SF in only a few short weeks. And I did tackle my backyard clean up/gardening extravaganza. And I did bake/frost 50 strawberry cupcakes for my friend’s daughter’s birthday party. And I did build a pretty awesome cupcake tower to display said cupcakes on. And I did go to the park and spend time watching the birthday girl, now two, eat three cupcakes at once and run back and forth on a mad sugar high. And I did receive many fallen leaves (from said birthday girl) as thanks for all my efforts. Best. Payment. Ever. Read more…
Mrs. Lamb, NorfolkAge and Occupation: 25, Homeland Security ConsultantFiance's Age and Occupation: 27, Graduate StudentEngagement Date: January 2009Wedding Date: January 2010Venue: Trinity Presbyterian Church/Harrison Opera HouseAbout Me: I’m a Homeland Security Consultant with a tendency towards pulling office pranks, taking lunch breaks, and drinking Wawa shakes. I’m also an English major with a serious obsession with alliteration and rhymes. While I’m not keeping America safe, I’m training for half marathons and the Escape from Alcatraz swim. Or moving for the third time this year. Or baking. Or wedding crafting. Or crying about wedding planning. All the while, I’m getting myself into Lucille Ball-esque scrapes and making Jim Carey-esque faces. Our big fat Czech/Baptist/Jewish/Italian wedding is a combination of vintage eclectic, DIY, and little spoonful of sugar from our Event Coordinator. It’s going to be a Norfolk flavored wedding with the verve of an only-daughter-blow-out bash!
Some observant readers noticed my haircut back when I said farewell, so today I came back to give you the skinny on my new ‘do. For this go around, I actually blow dried it with a round brush and everything. Then I put on some makeup.
Mrs. Taco, San FranciscoAge and Occupation: 29, writer/editorFiance's Age and Occupation: 37, editorEngagement Date: May 13, 2009Wedding Date: August 2010Venue: The Green Room at the War Memorial Veterans BuildingAbout Me: I like laughing and talking with good friends over good food and good drink, be it wine, cocktail, or brew. I write and edit things for fun and profit, but I rarely "write" these days without a keyboard and high-speed internets. Favorites include Mr. Taco, my Boston terrier, San Francisco, getting out of town, and the Roaring ’20s. I was kind-of planning a wedding since roughly 2006, when I discovered "Whose Wedding Is It Anyway?" on the WE channel. I ran and didn't look back with a theme I called "urban vintage," and it culminated in the most magical day a taco could ask for.
I am terrible with surprises. Full-on, straight-up terrible. When I’m the surprisee, I relentlessly bother the surpriser for hints until they’ve shared at least a little bit of what they’re planning. Occasionally, I’ll dip into my reporter skillz and ask the same question in different ways, hoping to crack people.
I told you I was terrible.
But it goes both ways: when I’m the surpriser, I have a hell of a time keeping it under my hat. At birthday parties, I thrust presents into people’s hands and then beg them to open them. When planning Bridesmaid A’s bachelorette weekend, I asked her if she was excited and wanted any hints. Then I stared in shock when she said she wanted to be completely surprised.
You can see how this would affect me amid the biggest event-planning endeavor I’ve ever taken on, especially after I started blogging for a widely read wedding website.
With our nuptials, we let a few things slip. Read more…
Ms Seahorse, BostonAge and Occupation: 25, Veterinary Jane-of-all-tradesFiancee's Age and Occupation: 36, former non-profit fundraiser in search of something betterEngagement Date: October 17, 2009Wedding Date: September 2010Venue: Fort Pond LodgeAbout Me: By day I'm a cat-wrangler, vet tech assistant, pet-sitter, receptionist, and pre-vet student, but the rest of the time, I'm a former-roller-derby girl turned dedicated-wedding planner. I love reading, writing, bicycles, animals, roller skating, and antique-y things of all sorts. I'm a vegetarian who likes spicy foods, while Fiancee Seahorse is a meat eater who does not like spices. We live outside Boston with our menagerie: a fifty pound dog, a one-eyed, seventeen-toed, toothless cat, and a perfectly put together cat who has a penchant for pooping near rather than in her litter box. In addition to planning our small lake-side wedding, we enjoy running around with the puppy, playing board games (Scrabble, anyone?), having little adventures, talking about how we should really clean the house more, and maintaining our little garden of vegetables and wedding flowers.

We are two self-professed nerds with an affinity for all things outdoors---be it rain, snow or shine. Recently relocated from the drizzly Northwest, we're enjoying the many sun-soaked days in the mile high city. Our day will be filled with both of our large families and friends, a self-served Cajun feast, and a Zydeco-style jazz band rocking beneath the beams of a historic red barn.

I heart cooking, sewing, baking, decorating and making sure we have a hand-crafted home. The best part about the wedding is I get to incorporate it all! I make sure I put my art degree to good use by screen printing, craft knife cutting, and a whole lotta graphic design. We're having a big-time party on a small-time budget, and I promise to show you a boot-scootin', barbecue-eatin', finger-lickin' good time! Mr. Sand Dollar and I spend most of our time on DIY projects or traipsing around the outdoors with our two pooches Rory and Juno. I'm looking forward to sharing our journey with all of you!
A Coca-Cola addict! I’ve been chugging this stuff since pre-k, and it’s only gotten worse with age. I’m talking a four-a-day habit, guys. I’m a hardcore user. One thing that really burns my biscuits about the wedding machine is how they almost force brides to try to be their thinnest on their wedding day. Now, I have no problems with presenting a healthy, beautiful you, but since when do we have to hit the gym five days a week for just one day? I don’t think it’s fair, and though I thoroughly applaud those of you who have the discipline and commitment to achieve those goals, I’m 100% fine with the way I look. It’s the exact same way I looked when Mr. SD proposed, and that’s who he’ll see walking down the aisle.
Mrs. Lobster, BrooklynAge and Occupation: 29, Finance GirlFiance's Age and Occupation: 33, Finance BoyEngagement Date: July 25, 2009Wedding Date: August 2010Venue: Stage 6 Steiner StudiosAbout Me: I'm a New York-born, Virginia-bred girl who's found her way back to the big city. Mr. Lobster and I met in grad school and have been together ever since. I'm clueless about DIY but am an avid online shopper and love all things polka dots, stripes, and ruffles! When I'm not making wedding lists, you can find me looking for snacks, watching Gilmore Girls, or hanging out with Mr. Lobster and our new puppy Buddy! We are planning a fancy-pantsy Brooklyn wedding for a hot New York summer night which is sure to be a misadventure in the making.
Back in 2006, right after Mr. Lobster and I met, the New York Times published an article titled “Questions Couples Should Ask (Or Wish They Had) Before Marrying.”
Father Mark was in seminary school back in 2006 and since then all his classmates have been using this as part of their pre-marital sessions… because it works! In our final session, Mr. Lobster and I went through every. single. one. It generated some very enlightening discussion. Here are a few of the more interesting ones and short versions of our answers:
Have we discussed whether or not to have children, and if the answer is yes, who is going to be the primary care giver? Read more…

On my bachelorette trip to Vegas (more on that to come!) Momma found the perfect MOB dress! It was a very unexpected and lucky find… we had been perusing BCBG (because lil’ sis is a huge fan) when we came across the clearance rack and found a very pretty dress in Mom’s size.

I dislike touching fuzzy fabric of any kind, eating somewhat squishy food, and Michigan winters. Mr. Taffy and I are having a blast planning our Ann Arbor wedding, and cannot wait to share our day with friends and family.
This post is dedicated to the lovely Mrs. Perfume, whose wedding was inspired by Marie Antoinette!
I was very excited the morning of my 30th birthday… making the trip to Versailles was one of the things that I was anticipating most about our trip to France. Going there on my birthday was just a bonus! (Having a wedding anniversary five days before my birthday has its perks!)
We wanted to get to the palace before opening, as we knew it would be swamped on a Saturday. The fountains at the palace only run on the weekends, so we didn’t mind the prospect of heavy crowds very much. I wanted to see the palace grounds in full swing!

So, as I write this, I am in the throes of the most ridiculous DIY project I have ever attempted. I’ve yelled, I’ve cried, and I’ve threatened to throw things across the room. It’s ugly, my friends, and I’m just getting started.
The project? Napkins.
Yes, napkins. I’m notthefirstbee to consider attempting homemade projects, and to be honest I should have heeded the warnings of those before me and just stayed away. But, no. I’m stubborn and I just had to do it. Bad, bad idea.
The problems started when I began looking for fabric. Apparently, yellow fabric is extremely difficult to make, because it’s either non-existent or it’s $14.00 a yard. I couldn’t find any patterned fabrics that I was happy with, so I settled with just doing plain yellow and gray napkins. Sure, it’s not the most exciting option, but I’ll be saving some money since I can sell them after the wedding, and it will add a nice homemade touch to them. Read more…
