Mrs. Earrings, Fresno, CA/ Nelson, New ZealandAge and Occupation: 20, Student, Wannabe Writer
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 19, Photography StudentEngagement Date: February 14, 2010Wedding Date: January 2011Venue: Gardens of the WorldAbout Me: I'm a girl from down under who grew up in Indonesia and I'm marrying a California boy. I'm addicted to all things sweet, have never met a chocolate silk pie than can get the better of me, and have dreams of one day being a fulltime novelist. I go weak in the knees for lace, tea cups, and a beautifully crafted sentence. When I get excited about something (whether it is historical linguistics or the Beatles) I tend to go overboard in research, and planning this wedding is no different. Mr. Earrings is my high school sweetheart, my best friend, and somehow we combine all our quirks into one big happy mess.
Mrs. Glasses, Tokyo/Los Angeles, CAAge and Occupation: 24, English teacherFiance's Age and Occupation: 27, English teacherEngagement Date: September 2008Wedding Date: October 2010 Venue: Parents' backyardAbout Me: I’m an expat living in Tokyo. I’ve been in Japan for almost three years now, where I met my fantastic English fiance. It’s time to leave Japan, so we are planning a fun, intimate, backyard ceremony back home in the suburbs of L.A. in October. Our wedding will be a mix of my love for food, beer, my Japanese culture, and Mr. G’s Englishness. We are on a tiny budget and DIYing almost everything!
That beauty right there is the wedding gown trend in Japan. Usually, a Japanese bride will wear a kimono for the ceremony and change into a dress (or two) for the reception. Not just any dress, a big poofy honking princess of a dress! Complete with tiara, of course. Now, who DOESN’T wanna be a princess on her wedding day? Japanese wedding gowns are the stuff little-girl-dreams are made of. They also come with a price tag that gives the little girl’s daddy a heart attack. And they are a little impractical for a backyard wedding. Can you see why I haven’t been dress shopping in this country? Read more…
Mrs. Seashell, Chicago, IL / Providence, RIAge and Occupation: 28, Marriage and Family TherapistFiance's Age and Occupation: 31, Electrical EngineerEngagement Date: September 3, 2009Wedding Date: September 2010Venue: The Glen Manor HouseAbout Me: Fonts and fashion, stationery and Sundays, photography and french toast... the beauty is in the details for this fun-loving Chicagoan who loves to plan plan plan! The soon-to-be hubs plays "Mr. Fix-It" in our new condo while I swoon over beautiful, personalized stationery and choose shades of aubergine for my bridesmaids' dresses... and thus begins my new fairy tale! Skirting to the East Coast for our September nuptials where my home state of Rhode Island awaits with fall foliage, I'm just a few dress fittings and bachelorette party away from saying "I Do" to a very happy ending!
So there I was, embracing my inner bachelorette. I’ll admit, it was pretty fun. The biggest surprise of all was how amazingly supportive my fellow Vegas partiers were. I got one huge, “Congratulations!!!” after another. (There were a few “don’t do it!” comments mixed in there too, but mainly genuine happiness from the Vegas crowd.) Who knew Vegas was so pro-marriage? Oh, wait. Duh.
On to the rest of the trip: The next morning we hit Tao Beach. If you’ve been following along closely, we didn’t leave the Venetian. Ah, the beauty of Vegas. Bridesmaid Leah scored a cabana through a PR hook up. She rocks. The day started quiet and serene. But my visions of reading and sipping fruity drinks by the pool disappeared quickly.
Miss Handbag, Smyrna, DE/JamaicaAge and Occupation: 25, AdministrationFiance's Age and Occupation: 27, SalesEngagement Date: Christmas Night 2008Wedding Date: March 2011Venue: Rosehall Resort, Montego Bay, JamaicaAbout Me: I am a Type A, emotional Italian fireball, who on a weekly basis must be brought back to reality by my level headed, calm, cool and collected fiance. We are planning an intimate, all white with hints of black, vintage inspired wedding on the old sugar aqueducts of Jamaica, with 30 of our closest friends and family flying in to witness the occasion. We are not traditional by any means and will be doing things very differently. :)
Right before we left for Jamaica, I got the itch to buy something pretty related to the wedding. Since we haven’t been able to really do any planning, I was dying! I am not a patient person by any means, so buying little things that pertain to our trip kept me from going insane.
I finally got my passport in the mail. Yay! but, its ugly. What was I expecting from a government document, right? SO I scoured Etsy (my fav place ever) for a cute passport cover—anything to make it look pretty, and I’m in!
Mrs. Cloud, RichmondAge and Occupation: 25, Sales RepFiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Customer Service Manager/DJEngagement Date: February 14, 2008Wedding Date: November 2009Venue: Cathedral of the Sacred Heart & The Jefferson HotelAbout Me: Mr. Cloud and I are Yankees planning a Southern wedding to show our families from Boston and New York our fabulous city. We are complete opposites, resulting in a wedding to include bridesmaids in pearls and groomsmen in Adidas shell toes. I’m a sorority girl at heart with strong addictions to my blackberry, cherry Chapstick, Coach purses, the Boston Red Sox and our fur baby, Bella. I can’t wait to the throw the party of our lives and of course, marry my best friend!
Despite the chaos of the morning and all of my nerves, I have to admit it still didn’t feel real yet. I had my makeup done and their was a gigantic veil attached to my head, so you would think I felt like the bride I had been planning to become for almost two years. But it just hadn’t hit yet. Maybe the nerves were getting in the way, but suddenly someone told me it was time. I needed to put the dress on that had been staring down at me all morning.
After my best friends in the entire world helped me get dressed I turned slightly and caught myself in the mirror. It was like a ton of bricks; I was a bride. Read more…
Mrs. Starfish, Boston/NewportAge and Occupation: 25, Operations AssistantFiance's Age and Occupation: 25, SalesEngagement Date: October 8, 2008Wedding Date: October 2010Venue: The Atlantic Beach ClubAbout Me: I'm a perfectionist who is a planner at heart. I don't do well with surprises. I love planning, crafting, Newport RI, family and friends, and most importantly, Mr. Starfish---all of which will be big components in our October wedding in our favorite little city by the sea.
Starfish Mom wanted to do something special before Mr. Starfish and I say, “I do.” So, one weekend in May, she took me and Sister Starfish on a girls’ weekend to Kennebunkport, ME. We took Friday off and headed up Maine’s coastline.
The weekend was filled with shopping, laughing, movies, great food and lots of quality time.
Starfish Mom even surprised me by sneaking up some of my favorite wedding movies. It worked out well because day 2 of the trip was rainy. We snuck in a few of my favorites over the three day trip. No matter how many times I watch Father of the Bride, I still love it! I don’t think I can ever get sick of that one.
We went to lots of cute shops and some interesting ones, like Woods to Goods, a store where inmates at the Shawshank Prison make items out of wood, which are sold in the store. Our innkeeper said it’s a popular place to purchase wedding gifts—the wooden salad bowls being the most popular. They are great conversation pieces, for sure. Read more…

Mrs. Locket, Ithaca, NYAge and Occupation: 25, Research TechnicianFiance's Age and Occupation: 28, former Banker hoping to become an Officer of the LawEngagement Date: June 15, 2009Wedding Date: September 2010Venue: Heron Hill WineryAbout Me: I am a little bit of everything all rolled into one: A girly gal with rough edges---I love to get dolled up just as much as I enjoy throwing on some sneaks to toss a ball with Mr. Locket. My love for crafting and creating is quite apparent and I've been referred to as a Wonder Woman/Martha Stewart/Stepford Wife hybrid (yup, I'll take that as a compliment). I adore sewing, photography, sculpture, good eats (mmm tapas), baking, snugging and oh, pretty much everything in between (there's not much I dislike). I am super excited to be planning our vineyard wedding and couldn't be happier to be marrying Mr. Locket. We are a quirky, fun-loving couple residing in our college town with our two pups Maple and Molly. We love to go on hikes, visit our local dog park and to bask in the beauty of many of the local falls and gorges. We are an indecisive pair, but together we somehow manage to make up our minds (it's the easy stuff that's tricky).
I’ve been sure about who I was going to ask to be my flower girl for quite some time and couldn’t be more excited to ask her. Anna is the daughter of a loving couple who I nannied for during my college years. Since I have stayed in the area, I’ve continued to be a part of their lives and have watched six-month-old Anna transform into a five-year-old mini-person (and now big sister).
Mrs. Sand Dollar, HoustonAge and Occupation: 24, Graphic DesignerFiance's Age and Occupation: 22, Electrical TechnicianEngagement Date: January 8, 2010Wedding Date: September 2010Venue: MacLean ParkAbout Me: I'm a domestic diva down to the core. I heart cooking, sewing, baking, decorating and making sure we have a hand-crafted home. The best part about the wedding is I get to incorporate it all! I make sure I put my art degree to good use by screen printing, craft knife cutting, and a whole lotta graphic design. We're having a big-time party on a small-time budget, and I promise to show you a boot-scootin', barbecue-eatin', finger-lickin' good time! Mr. Sand Dollar and I spend most of our time on DIY projects or traipsing around the outdoors with our two pooches Rory and Juno. I'm looking forward to sharing our journey with all of you!
As the lovely Miss Husky detailed before me, Mr. Sand Dollar and I are choosing to self-cater. It’s been the plan from the start, since we have about 400 dollars to feed 200 people. That’s right guys. Two dollars per person. Not too many caterers are interested in that deal! So how are we going to pull this off? Well, you’d be surprised what small-town Texas has to offer.
Mrs. Argyle, St. LouisAge and Occupation: 24, Project CoordinatorFiance's Age and Occupation: 24, PilotEngagement Date: February 15, 2009Wedding Date: September 2010Venue: Jewel Box in Forest Park and Windows on WashingtonAbout Me: I'm a true Midwestern girl (born and raised), lover of red wine, reality TV and the entire J.Crew catalog. I love to dance regardless of who is watching, and enjoy a good laugh with my girls. I have a soft spot in my heart for planet Earth, my two dogs and my fiance. Fall is my favorite season (which is why we are marrying in September), but I love a warm summer day and the Colorado mountains in the winter. We are planning a modern soiree downtown, with lots of bold colors, and fun, eco-friendly elements.
Everything about it fits so well with the look and feel of our invites. It’s modern and fun and different—way cooler than my handwriting will ever be. Jessica seriously rocked it out by addressing our outer envelopes and calligraphing the inner envelopes as well. Read more…
Mrs. Husky, DenverAge and Occupation: 26, Systems AdministratorFiance's Age and Occupation: 32, Mechanical Engineer, recently laid offEngagement Date: August 14, 2009Wedding Date: October 2010Venue: Rancho San CarlosAbout Me: I am planning a quirky-crafty wedding with my recently out-of-work fiancé for a (fingers crossed!) warm October afternoon. We are two self-professed nerds with an affinity for all things outdoors---be it rain, snow or shine. Recently relocated from the drizzly Northwest, we're enjoying the many sun-soaked days in the mile high city. Our day will be filled with both of our large families and friends, a self-served Cajun feast, and a Zydeco-style jazz band rocking beneath the beams of a historic red barn.
I can’t seem to recall where I heard this bit of advice, but very early on in the planning process, it was suggested that I pay for wedding expenses on a rewards credit card. The idea was not to spend more on the wedding than you’re able, but instead to reap the benefits of the increased spending by getting travel miles, hotel vouchers, or any number of other bonuses.

Mrs. Cardigan, AustinAge and Occupation: 21, Student/Soon-to-be Special Education TeacherFiance's Age and Occupation: 20, Student/Soon-to-be Accounting Systems AnalystEngagement Date: August 16, 2009Wedding Date: January 2011Venue: Vintage VillasAbout Me: I'm a native Austinite who was raised as a die-hard Aggie. Luckily, I'm a pretty persuasive girl because I managed to convince my high school boyfriend (now fiance!), Mr. Cardigan, to ditch his hardcore Longhorn ways and join me up at A&M, where we currently reside with our adorable dogs, Cullen & Ranger. We're currently planning a bright, cheery wedding with a ridiculous amount of DIY projects that I can't wait to tackle! I love crafting in any form, reading, and margaritas (I think I love them the most!). Organization is what keeps me sane and I love helping others, which is probably why I ended up as an education major. It gets a little chaotic sometimes when you're planning a wedding among all of the papers, projects, finals, and certification exams, but we're having the time of our lives and we can't wait to get started on our journey as husband and wife - and we're so excited to share our wedding with the hive!
Folding over 1,000 petals for your stupid aisle decor will do that to you. I’vetalkedbefore about my evil kusudama balls and how the are the bane of my existence, but guess what?
I’m done folding them! I just finished folding the last of my 20 balls, and they’re ready to go. And if I never see another 4×4 square of paper in my life, I would be okay with that. I even had a little chat with Ranger to see how he feels about the kusudama balls…

I love baking for others, hosting brunches, and exploring NYC with my mans. Besides Mr. Hamster (of course), I'm attracted to shiny things, bold colors, snacks, matching and coordination, pork and duck fats, miniature versions of things, corny jokes and puns. We are planning a swanky Spring wedding in the heart of NYC, followed by a second reception in Singapore. From one city that never sleeps to another - I can't imagine a more exciting ride!
