Miss Handbag, Smyrna, DE/Jamaica
Age and Occupation: 25, Administration
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 27, Sales
Engagement Date: Christmas Night 2008
Wedding Date: March 2011
Venue: Rosehall Resort, Montego Bay, Jamaica
About Me: I am a Type A, emotional Italian fireball, who on a weekly basis must be brought back to reality by my level headed, calm, cool and collected fiance. We are planning an intimate, all white with hints of black, vintage inspired wedding on the old sugar aqueducts of Jamaica, with 30 of our closest friends and family flying in to witness the occasion. We are not traditional by any means and will be doing things very differently. :)
I. am. in. love. with. Maggie. Sottero.
I gawk at her website daily *swoon*. I have narrowed my choices down to 6 dresses that tickle my fancy.
The fact that Maggie has a petite option is even better! Yes, I admit I am only 5’ tall.
I have been itching to try on dresses since before we were even engaged! Sad, isn’t it? I just cant wait… the dress shopping is most definitely the most exciting part of the planning for me. That, and of course, squeezing in that trip to Jamaica to get the planning process started.
Here are the dresses in all their glory that I have been *swooning* over.

Mrs. Ribbons, Washington D.C./Bloomington, IN
Age and Occupation: 23, Research Associate for an international development firm
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 25, Proposal Coordinator for contractor
Engagement Date: May 2, 2008
Wedding Date: June 2010
Venue: Indiana Memorial Union
About Me: I'm an Indiana transplant living in DC with my fiance and our pretty kitty. I enjoy the color pink, I'm obsessed with the Dior New Look and tulle, and I heart my level 80 paladin. I'm a sucker for bad TV, literary theory, and cakes of all persuasion. I also happen to be marrying the cutest closet nerd around! It's all about Bloomington for us because it's where we met -- on the college paper. If there's a theme for our small summertime wedding, it's Dior meets Dorothy Draper on a lark in Bloomington; think poofy, plus graphic prints, bold colors, and a whole lot of prettiness.

Hello again. The hive, is it?

Mrs. Lamb, Norfolk
Age and Occupation: 25, Homeland Security Consultant
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 27, Graduate Student
Engagement Date: January 2009
Wedding Date: January 2010
Venue: Trinity Presbyterian Church/Harrison Opera House
About Me: I’m a Homeland Security Consultant with a tendency towards pulling office pranks, taking lunch breaks, and drinking Wawa shakes. I’m also an English major with a serious obsession with alliteration and rhymes. While I’m not keeping America safe, I’m training for half marathons and the Escape from Alcatraz swim. Or moving for the third time this year. Or baking. Or wedding crafting. Or crying about wedding planning. All the while, I’m getting myself into Lucille Ball-esque scrapes and making Jim Carey-esque faces. Our big fat Czech/Baptist/Jewish/Italian wedding is a combination of vintage eclectic, DIY, and little spoonful of sugar from our Event Coordinator. It’s going to be a Norfolk flavored wedding with the verve of an only-daughter-blow-out bash!
A kegerator, bees, culinary delights and wedding talk? Sounds like a perfect Saturday meet-up to me! Some Weddingbee readers dropped by my house to share goodies and girl talk this past week. We talked all sorts of wedding shop, from rings to dresses to catering costs. Then we talked about dogs, cooking dinner, grad school, life plans, and European vacations. I also stuffed myself silly with treats.

Our awesome spread!

Mrs. Buttons, Clearwater, FL
Age and Occupation: 24, "Working on it"
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28, Financial Services
Engagement Date: June 13, 2009
Wedding Date: May 2010
Venue: Carlouel Yacht Club
About Me: I'm a self proclaimed perfectionist and a professional nomad (seriously, I've lived in TX, WI, MI, FL, NC, and now VA!). I love wine, cooking, curling up with a good book (nerd alert!), spoiling the furbaby, and of course, the wonderful Mr. Buttons! We are planning a lighthearted and whimsical wedding (with a good deal of DIY projects) in Clearwater, Florida, but from a distance of 800 miles away! We are looking forward to sharing our day with our family and friends, and most importantly, starting our lives together as husband and wife!

Once our busy day of nail salons and flower previews seemed to be complete, the Button Bridesmaids and I had one last activity! The girls had put together a small bridal shower for that evening - how fun! We were joined by sorority sister J, who had flown in that afternoon, as well as Mommy Buttons, both my grandmothers, and my Aunt J!

Create the honeymoon of your dreams.

Mrs. Mary Jane, Grand Forks, ND
Age and Occupation: 26, Instructional Designer
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Lead Programmer
Engagement Date: February 28, 2009
Wedding Date: September 2009
Venue: City Hall
About Me: I'm a career woman on the surface and a homemaker at heart. I love fast cars and high heels, and my favorite food is cake. Mr. Mary Jane and I are both full-time employees and students, and we just bought our first house. We love to curl up on the couch with buttery popcorn, Sour Patch Kids, and the latest Netflix arrival -- whenever we can get a break from everyday life.
What follows might be the longest post I have ever written for Weddingbee. That’s because I don’t want to leave anything out. If you’re considering this resort for your honeymoon, I want you to have all the facts. (At least, the facts based on our experience.) I haven’t been paid or influenced to write this review of the resort. This is just ’how I saw it’.

You should note that there are a lot of minor little snafus mentioned in this post.

Mrs. Locket, Ithaca, NY
Age and Occupation: 25, Research Technician
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28, former Banker hoping to become an Officer of the Law
Engagement Date: June 15, 2009
Wedding Date: September 2010
Venue: Heron Hill Winery
About Me: I am a little bit of everything all rolled into one: A girly gal with rough edges---I love to get dolled up just as much as I enjoy throwing on some sneaks to toss a ball with Mr. Locket. My love for crafting and creating is quite apparent and I've been referred to as a Wonder Woman/Martha Stewart/Stepford Wife hybrid (yup, I'll take that as a compliment). I adore sewing, photography, sculpture, good eats (mmm tapas), baking, snugging and oh, pretty much everything in between (there's not much I dislike). I am super excited to be planning our vineyard wedding and couldn't be happier to be marrying Mr. Locket. We are a quirky, fun-loving couple residing in our college town with our two pups Maple and Molly. We love to go on hikes, visit our local dog park and to bask in the beauty of many of the local falls and gorges. We are an indecisive pair, but together we somehow manage to make up our minds (it's the easy stuff that's tricky).
…was the task of setting up our cake-tasting appointments.
You can’t imagine (or maybe you can) how much I’ve nagged, pleaded, and begged for help from him with anything wedding related. I’ve asked for help with the DJ, the venue, the caterer, the menu, the photographer, and pretty much everything else you could think of. Sadly, I was met with a whole lot of “oops, I forgot” followed by the most pathetic puppy dog face (I mean, how could I get mad at that?).
To my surprise the story was different the day I asked him to set up our cake-tasting appointments. As usual, I asked if he had gotten it done, and my jaw dropped to the floor when I heard his reply.

Engagement Date: December 31, 2008
Wedding Date: November 2009
Venue: Whitfield Square/Savannah Station
About Me: I'm working on my second degree from UGA (Go Dawgs!). I'm a self-proclaimed attention-w****. If it involves a camera, I'm in front of it! You'll never meet a girlier tomboy than me. I can go toe to toe with any guy on the subject of college football, and lift more than any girl in my gym, all without chipping a nail. I hope to someday be the only person you want delivering your sports news. My FI and I are the loving parents of three Labrador Retrievers (one of each color) and are planning a "Southern Romantic Charm" wedding in the beautiful, historic city of Savannah. I'm not extreme in anything except moderation... and wedding planning.
We interrupt these Labrador recaps to bring you some breaking news.
This gal is officially OFFICIAL.

Fiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Graphics Operator for TV News
Engagement Date: May 6th, 2009
Wedding Date: September 2010
Venue: Heinz Chapel Ceremony, Museum Reception
About Me: When my best friend dragged me to a toga party in our freshmen year of college, I was not expecting to meet my future husband; but seven years later, here we are. I'm a crazy-organized planner at heart, and I am a great lover of random trivia, books, chocolate, blogs, new and exciting adventures, mockumentary-style television, and anything heavily flavored with bright orange fake cheese powder. We're planning a festive and fun mini-destination wedding in the place where we met: fabulous Pittsburgh, PA! I can't wait to marry the man I love!
Hive, Mom Octopus and I had a super-successful and productive trip to Pittsburgh this weekend, and I’m feeling more and more and more confident that this wedding of ours will pretty much come together. I have LOTS of exciting stuff to tell you, but first…
Mr. Octopus, scram. You can’t read this one!

Mrs. Husky, Denver
Age and Occupation: 26, Systems Administrator
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 32, Mechanical Engineer, recently laid off
Engagement Date: August 14, 2009
Wedding Date: October 2010
Venue: Rancho San Carlos
About Me: I am planning a quirky-crafty wedding with my recently out-of-work fiancé for a (fingers crossed!) warm October afternoon. We are two self-professed nerds with an affinity for all things outdoors---be it rain, snow or shine. Recently relocated from the drizzly Northwest, we're enjoying the many sun-soaked days in the mile high city. Our day will be filled with both of our large families and friends, a self-served Cajun feast, and a Zydeco-style jazz band rocking beneath the beams of a historic red barn.
Every guide for the budget bride suggests listing the aspects of your wedding day that are most important, and working through the budget based on what is most important to you and your fiance. Mr. Husky’s and mine went sort of like this:
- Get Married. Obviously.
- No guest list cuts. We are both very community-oriented folks, and our large family and network of friends are very important to us. We refuse to exclude anyone from our wedding due to the CPP (cost per plate).
- Good photographer. While we expect to enjoy vivid memories of our wedding day for many years to come, we hope to be married for many more years after that. When the images begin to fade from our minds, we want to have quality photos to remind us.
- Live Music. I will confess to feeling a bit indulgent with this one. And I have no legitimate excuse to make it feel less extravagant. But so much of the Husky relationship has involved live music – be it the outdoor festival we attend every summer in the south, or the many concert tickets to which we’ve treated one another. Here we are at one particularly rainy festival:

Mrs. Socks, Southern NJ/Philadelphia, PA
Age and Occupation: 23, Web Developer/Marketing Specialist
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Systems Engineer
Engagement Date: September 7, 2009
Wedding Date: October 2010
Venue: Ladder 15 Restaurant
About Me: I am originally from the Midwest, but I love being an East Coast transplant! Mr. Socks and I are foodies and winos to the core---give us a hunk of cheese, some charcuterie and a glass of wine and we could die happy. We have two mischievous Wire Fox Terriers with completely opposite personalities but with a shared love of uprooting anything in our garden. Our backyard garden includes everything from tomatoes and peppers to a fig tree, blueberries, blackberries and raspberries! I love cooking, indie music, and spending time in our wedding city of choice---Philly!
Is the air as thick with suspense and anticipation as I thought it would be??
Good.
It’s time for me to reveal our invitation suite. They aren’t quite ready to be sent out yet, so I’m sure a post on how I’m packaging them up will be coming. You don’t have to tell me how excited you are for that… I already know.
Okay, without further ado (click if you need it enlarged)…

Mrs. Sand Dollar, Houston
Age and Occupation: 24, Graphic Designer
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 22, Electrical Technician
Engagement Date: January 8, 2010
Wedding Date: September 2010
Venue: MacLean Park
About Me: I'm a domestic diva down to the core. I heart cooking, sewing, baking, decorating and making sure we have a hand-crafted home. The best part about the wedding is I get to incorporate it all! I make sure I put my art degree to good use by screen printing, craft knife cutting, and a whole lotta graphic design. We're having a big-time party on a small-time budget, and I promise to show you a boot-scootin', barbecue-eatin', finger-lickin' good time! Mr. Sand Dollar and I spend most of our time on DIY projects or traipsing around the outdoors with our two pooches Rory and Juno. I'm looking forward to sharing our journey with all of you!
How did I find Weddingbee?
I stumbled across Weddingbee in 2007 and backtracked all the way to the beginning. I followed Lemon, Lovebug (still a fave!), Peony, and Sweet Pea. I adored each post and couldn’t wait for more. I was inspired to DIY everything and learned that a wedding is what you make it, not what vendors tell you to buy.
My application story.
My winning application was my third try. I had applied once during my first engagement (which I talked about earlier), but my blogging style really wasn’t refined enough yet. My second time was just after I got engaged to Mr. SD this January, and I didn’t have enough posts. Finally, I just decided to blog for myself and chronicle all the DIY for my wedding, house, and graphic design biz. I decided to apply again in June, after five solid months of content. I was completely floored when I got my acceptance letter! I’m still pinching myself and am super glad that the hive is even better than I could have expected.
