Mrs. Cardigan's Picture
Mrs. Cardigan, Austin Age and Occupation: 21, Student/Soon-to-be Special Education Teacher Fiance's Age and Occupation: 20, Student/Soon-to-be Accounting Systems Analyst Engagement Date: August 16, 2009 Wedding Date: January 2011 Venue: Vintage Villas About Me: I'm a native Austinite who was raised as a die-hard Aggie. Luckily, I'm a pretty persuasive girl because I managed to convince my high school boyfriend (now fiance!), Mr. Cardigan, to ditch his hardcore Longhorn ways and join me up at A&M, where we currently reside with our adorable dogs, Cullen & Ranger. We're currently planning a bright, cheery wedding with a ridiculous amount of DIY projects that I can't wait to tackle! I love crafting in any form, reading, and margaritas (I think I love them the most!). Organization is what keeps me sane and I love helping others, which is probably why I ended up as an education major. It gets a little chaotic sometimes when you're planning a wedding among all of the papers, projects, finals, and certification exams, but we're having the time of our lives and we can't wait to get started on our journey as husband and wife - and we're so excited to share our wedding with the hive!
About Mrs. Cardigan

Amidst the Chaos…

August 1st, 2010 @ 11:40 am by Mrs. Cardigan

I don’t know if I’ve mentioned this yet, but Mr. Cardy and I are moving. Like, on Sunday. It’s not a huge move (I can literally see the new duplex from the window of the bedroom here), but it’s a definite upgrade, with two bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a YARD! No more second story apartment!

So, needless to say, things have been slightly insane around the Cardigan household lately. I’m a complete neat freak, and my apartment has morphed from a nice, put together (CLEAN) space, to this:

Amidst the Chaos… : wedding austin 13 1

Amidst the Chaos… : wedding austin 23 2

The dogs aren’t quite sure what to do with this sudden change to their home. Ranger kind of wanders around a lot, looking very confused. Cullen, on the other hand, seems to have embraced the boxes and chaos:

Cuddling with the boxes!

Anyways, things have been pretty insane around here lately, what with packing and spackling and painting. But, we received a super exciting present in the mail that was a great pick-me-up among all of the insanity! What was it you ask?

Why, it’s a poster of our Save the Dates!

Amidst the Chaos… : wedding austin 43 4

More evidence of an impending move! Paint for the new place!

This gorgeous poster was a (very generous!) gift from She-N-He, as a thank you for being one of their first graphic design customers. We are so thrilled with it, and can’t wait to put it up in our new home!

BUT. They weren’t able to print only one poster, since that’s just how print houses work, and sent us not 1, but TEN copies of the poster! Amazing, I know, but um… what do we do with 10 copies? Mr. Cardy and I debated putting one up in every room of our house (we love it THAT much!), but we thought that might be overkill.

We could give some copies to family members, but it’s pretty big (11 x 17) and I don’t think they’d appreciate it quite as much as we do! So now, we’re thinking we’d like to find a way to incorporate a few of them into the wedding! The only question is…how?

I’d really like to find a creative way to use one as a sign to direct guests to our wedding. Our venue is not a “one wedding a day” type of venue, and there are multiple places where you can get married there. So it would be nice for our guests to have some sort of sign directing them where to go. But then what do we do with it? How do we display it?

Hive, I need your help! I have 9 posters that I want to put to good use! Obviously, I probably won’t find a way to use all of them at the wedding, but I’d love any creative (wedding or non-wedding) ideas on what we could do with them!

You could have one at your reception for your guests to sign and put loving messages to you!

Good luck with your move!

Congratulations on the new place! Is that a plastic pool in the first picture? We buy one of those for our dog every summer (a new one each year because it is destroyed by the end of the summer).

As for the posters, they are adorable! I would use them in lieu of signage for various stuff around your wedding. You could cut yellow letters out of paper and place them above the sign saying stuff like “ceremony”, “reception”, “photobooth”, etc. That way you don’t have to make extra signage to tell everyone where stuff is and you can put those posters to use.

Congrats on the new place! I was in your position a week ago and am finally (pretty much) settled. Soon enough you’ll feel like home!

As for the posters, what if you cut out various areas into arrows, glued onto the wooden arrows they have at acmoore and painted on top (medium size) in white, “dancing”, “reception”, etc. That way it would hint at the save the date, showing the background but not always show the same image. I also love the cut up letters jordynrose mentioned above! Good luck!

yay - have fun - I’m weird so I would use them for a wedding sort of treasure hunt - your guests just follow the succession of 9 posters hung up to get to the ceremony…… but thats just me :D

Can you use it somehow as your seating chart or maybe cut it up into letters to make a paper garland? Or you could use it as decoration at your bridal shower.

I love the idea of using one as a guest book, way g=cooler than a signature mat. I would also ask your parents if the want one, you never know. Can you frame one (or just put cardboard behind it so it stands up) and put it on an easel at the entryway to point guests in the right direction. Maybe add an arrow or something. It could also be a fun backdrop for the cake or escort card table or even in a fauxto booth. If you have an sort of wedding party transportation, you could add it somehow inside or out. Maybe just hang up the framed version somewhere in the room you are getting dressed in, it could be cute to see in the back of your getting ready photos.

I love the idea of using them as signs! But I agree, it could become overkill. There’s a good bit of “white” space on the right that can be used…I say display them in frames like the one you have in the picture or a cheaper option would be backing it with cardboard (recycled from moving boxes?) with spray glue.

You could use it as a guestbook, by adding some mat behind it.

@eileen marie: Cullen is a cocker spaniel/ longhaired chichuaua mix. Or that is our best guess. We found him at the local shelter a year and a half ago.

@jordynrose: Haha, yes it’s Ranger’s plastic pool! Now that we have a backyard, we decided to get him one - he’s loving it so far! And that is a great suggestion, thanks!
@kaybee: LOVE the garland idea! Cute! Thanks!!
