Mrs. Glasses's Picture
Mrs. Glasses, Tokyo/Los Angeles, CA Age and Occupation: 24, English teacher Fiance's Age and Occupation: 27, English teacher Engagement Date: September 2008 Wedding Date: October 2010 Venue: Parents' backyard About Me: I’m an expat living in Tokyo. I’ve been in Japan for almost three years now, where I met my fantastic English fiance. It’s time to leave Japan, so we are planning a fun, intimate, backyard ceremony back home in the suburbs of L.A. in October. Our wedding will be a mix of my love for food, beer, my Japanese culture, and Mr. G’s Englishness. We are on a tiny budget and DIYing almost everything!
About Mrs. Glasses

I can’t imagine a more perfect place to take engagement photos. I know there are lots of great places out there in the U.S. of A., but Tokyo really is an awesome place. Let’s take a look at some of the areas we hope to be shooting at and some inspiration!

If it’s a clear day, a perfect view of the Tokyo skyline can be seen from the Odaiba islands.

A Tour of Tokyo in Four Hours or Less : wedding engagement pictures tokyo N11701501 These aren’t great, and that stupid statue definitely won’t be in our e-pics.

Skyline e-pics are so dramatic! Rep your city!

If the weather’s not so nice, we can go to Asakusa, the shrine district of Tokyo. It’s a bit cliche, but when are we going to have this chance again?

After getting some snaps of the skyline, we’ll move to Tokyo Station. What we’re looking for here is pictures of trains, tracks, and crowds. And of course we’ll do some sweet PDA in the middle of it all. We spend a significant amount of time on trains, and so do these couples!

Except, you know, everyone on our trains looks like this:

And our trains look like this!

Then, as the sun is setting, we’ll head over to Yoyogi Park to get in those cherry blossoms! It was tough to find inspirational cherry blossom e-pics, but I found and bookmarked tons (and tons and tons!) of autumn foliage.

When it’s dark, we’ll finish off in Shibuya.

Cool, huh? It’s got an insane crosswalk where people can cross every which way! Chaos and city lights! Shibuya is Times Square on acid and sushi, so I took inspiration from Mrs. Sushi.

I have to admit I’m pretty nervous about taking the e-pics. I’ve never had my picture taken professionally before, and it’s a little embarrassing making out in front of people.

Were you nervous or shy when you took your engagement pictures? What did you do to get over it?

I didn’t like very many of our e-pics that involved kissing. Ours had a lot of hugs/snuggling and then a lot just being in a pretty place with a smile and our hands together. I think that made it more comfortable and looked more natural.

Love the shrine temples, agreed where else can you take photos that look like that? and it’d be the city where you fell in love. I’ve seen some photos on subway douchery.com with japanese people passed out on the train lol it’s hilarious. Is it overworking or overdrinking??

Looks like you’ll have great locations! As for making out in public - get ready lady, that’s what your wedding is all about ;) Can’t wait to see the e-pics!

wow.. that sounds so fun! And that’s a long e-session.

I’m pretty shy and was definitely nervous but our photographer kept making jokes and other stuff to keep me relax.

The e-session definitely is a way to get use to a camera following you all over the place taking pictures.

We just had our E-session on Friday, it wasn’t as awkward as my FI feared it would be. Now is the hard part, waiting for our pics :)

when you say “that stupid statue” you cannot possibly be referring to the statue of liberty? i am a little confused as to which statue you are referring to.

@SpicedWine: @SpicedWine:

I gotta admit I thought the same thing. What is the statue? The statue of liberty is pretty important to some of us.

@SpicedWine: @periwinkle: It is the Statue of Liberty but what you’ve got to understand is, it’s not the statue of liberty. It is the most ridiculous looking thing and to be honest it makes me pretty mad that it is there. The appropriation of that statue to draw tourists and the way they’ve made it is not appropriate at all. Do not even get me started on it!

@periwinkle: @SpicedWine: Nope, now I’ve started and I can’t stop. Ok, it’s like those 6 inch plastic Statue of Liberty statues you can get at any gift shop, right? You would never prescribe meaning to those things, yeah? You would never hold one up and say “Oh look! Isn’t she so mighty and majestic? Ho, ho, ho let’s take a picture with it!” Most of my friends who come to visit me have this thought process: “Why is it here?” “Is that.. is it made of PLASTIC?” “Why are those Chinese tourists taking pictures with it? *FACEPALM*”

Ask Mr. G. I could rant about that statue all day. THAT statue, the one in Odaiba, Tokyo, can be called nothing but: stupid. Come to Tokyo and I will show you! :D

Thanks for the explanation! If you think that’s funny, You should go see the Parthenon in Nashville, TN sometime! It’s very life-like (I’m just judging by the pictures), but it’s a little out-of-place in the middle of country music land.
