Veil? Check!

August 3rd, 2010 @ 5:36 pm by Mrs. Cardigan

Alright, alright. The post office is forgiven. They must have noticed the anger and frustration in my post yesterday, because when I went to check the mail yesterday afternoon I had a cute little box waiting for me!

But, before I show it to you, I want to back up and explain how I chose it. You see, I don’t know if I’m the only one, but when I first got engaged all of the veil options out there completely overwhelmed me. Mantilla? Cut edge? Fingertip? Cathedral? What did it all MEAN? On top of all the options, there was the price. $300 for a piece of tulle attached to a comb?! Are there threads of gold sewn into the fabric?

Just thinking about what type of veil to get got me all sorts of worked up. How was I supposed to chose one?

And once I did, how was I supposed to afford it?! Well, once I read this post by Mrs. Scissors, I knew right away I had found the type of veil I wanted. Simple, no embellishments. No lace, no beads, no crystals. Of course, the length was a bit much for me – I’m only 5’3″, so a veil that long would look ridiculous on me. But it was perfect. Exactly what I wanted!

So, I found the type of veil. Now for figuring out the crazy cost. The first place I turned was (of course) Etsy. And it didn’t take me long to find the exact veil I wanted for only a fraction of the cost of anywhere else. I quickly placed my order and for a mere $25 (including shipping!) the perfect veil was on its way to me!

It took entirely too long for it to get to me (thanks, USPS!) but I finally have it, and I love it!

(Please excuse the sweats and giant bags under my eyes. Moving is exhausting!)

Were you overwhelmed by all the veil options out there? How did you finally settle on one?

That’s awesome! I’m so glad you posted. I am still trying to decide if I want a veil or not, but if I go with one, it will be simple. I think I may go ahead and order one from the Etsy shop you recommended since the prices are so reasonable.

My mother said I must have a veil. I was on the fence but mom was paying and I wasn’t arguing. We got one that is elbow length and has little seed pearls and sequins sewn in at some places. We bought it from Alfred Angelo, where I got my dress, it was expensive but it is beautiful.

I had the same thought about $300 for a piece of tulle. So I searched Ebay. Found out you could buy a veil for like $20. So when I went for my first fitting, I tried on a million different ones to see what I thought was going to look great with my dress, and then searched for that on ebay. $20 bucks later I found the perfect veil, and actually went to my 2nd fitting yesterday, sure enough it looked great with the dress! The bridal shop even said they would steam it for me even though I didn’t purchase it there.

THANK YOU for posting this! This is the kind of veil I want and I think it is ridiculous that most bridal salons sell veils (literally tulle on a comb) for well over $100! I love the plain, simple, elegant look that your veil has without any of the embellishments - and the great price sure helps!

I had a tough time with the whole ‘veil situation.’ I went from wanting a birdcage veil to a full on cathedral length veil. I ended up having my veil made by a local alterations women. It was a hassle/frustrating/all of the above. I still got a deal, but it took me 2 alterations and then bringing it to ANOTHER alternations person to FIX what the first person did. I was in wedding veil h-double hockey sticks.

I *knew* I didn’t want a traditional one. You look great, but I would surely get caught in it. And it really wasn’t my style; so birdcage it was!

I couldn’t believe the prices either! They wanted half the cost of my dress for some netting! I hit up the internet and was very happy with what I found. I used wedding-veil.com. What I liked best is that had like 18 color choices and for a “light gold/champagne” dress I couldn’t use off the shelf white. For free they sent me 5 fabric samples that I chose. Then once that was done I called and they placed a order for just what I wanted and it only cost $65 or so. It was considered a custom floor length veil. It arrived in a matter of days after I talked to them. They are located in colorado (which is down the street from me) and they were super helpful. I highly recommend them.
