About Mrs. Starfish

Bridesmaids’ Shoes

August 4th, 2010 @ 11:16 am by Mrs. Starfish

When it came to the Starfish Girls’ shoes, I knew I couldn’t pick one style because heights and comforts vary between the girls. I’m personally not a fan of higher heels, but have a few girls that love them, and at least one other like me who likes low heels or no heels, so I don’t think it would be possible to find one style of shoe that would make everyone happy.

Originally I wanted to find navy shoes, but I couldn’t find the exact shade I like. I also didn’t want to do dyeables, because I want the girls to have super cost-friendly options.

I then decided to look for off white or cream shoes, which I didn’t think would be hard in the spring and summer, but it was. I did find one or two options I liked in navy and cream, but I really want the girls to have a variety so they each are happy and comfortable with the shoes they wear.

Then one of the Starfish Girls suggested gold. I really wanted to keep everything at the wedding to our navy and white color scheme, but in this case it just makes the most sense. Gold shoes are re-wearable and some girls may even already own a pair. Plus, we are heading nto fall, which should make gold shoes pretty easy to find. So far, I’ve found lots of options online.

I sent out an email with a link to different styles in the shade I like with a few requirements: heels, strappy, light gold. Each girl will get to pick out her own pair that hopefully she’ll love and get to wear again. Here are a few of the examples I sent:Bridesmaids' Shoes : wedding newport shoes Dress02

This shoe by Capparos on Piperlime is a great budget friendly option, currently on sale for $24.99. Piperlime also has free shipping and returns. I’m not crazy about the buckle, but I love the price and the rest of the shoe.

I love this Ralph Lauren option from Macy’s. It has a classic look and is totally re-wearable. Bridesmaids' Shoes : wedding newport shoes Dress04

I wore these Kelly & Katie heels from DSW to Sister Starfish’s wedding last year. I usually take heels off at weddings after a few songs, but these were so comfy, I kept them on the entire night. I bought them for $39.95, which I thought was great because I plan to wear them again.

Bridesmaids' Shoes : wedding newport shoes Dress05 Another Katie and Kelly option from DSW for the same price, but it has a higher heel. I thought some girls may prefer this, as most of the Starfish Girls like higher heels than me.

Are your girls wearing the same shoe, or are you giving them options?

All my girls wore gold shoes (different styles). I think metallic shoes (gold, silver) are a great idea because they’re very neutral and most girls already own them. All my bridesmaids already had their shoes and it actually ended up being a mix of peeptoes, strappy, bejeweled, and flat. I loved the eclectic blend of shoe styles (in case some girls arent’ comfortable in strappy shoes).

White/ivory shoes are really hard to find in cute styles, plus they don’t really go with much (in real life).

Personally I like the look the of different shoes on the BMs, not all matchy-matchy. That way they can each get shoes that suit their individual personalities and truly wear them again.

Love the shoes. My posse is wearing whatever shoe they want; I told them I didn’t care, so I can’t wait to see what they’ve chosen.

My girls are all wearing different shoes. Completely different. But they’re all in the same (long) dress, so I figure it’s a way for them to express their personality. So far, I think one is having gold strappy shoes, another has turquoise stilettos, and I don’t know about the third. But I think those two pairs will look fabulous with eggplant colored dresses.

I love this post. I too wanted my girls in navy shoes and had a hard time finding the perfect shade. Then, last fall, DSW had several pairs of Caparros in navy with varying heel heights, styles and prices so I told my girls to get which ever one they wanted as long it was Caparros and navy. One of the bought hers right away and the other two waited until now, one month before the wedding, despite my reminding them and sending DSW coupons their way. Well all the options were sold out. There was one pair of Liz Clairborne navy satin shoes that looked similar to the firs BM’s shoes so in the end they are all wearing almost the exact same shoes. I hope they will at least re-wear them.

So cute! Love those! My girls are picking their own shoes, mainly because I don’t have the energy to make a decision on that too :)

My girls are wearing long dresses, so the shoes don’t matter so much! I told them I’d prefer strappy metallic heels - I think all of them but my FSIL already has at least one pair.

One shoe-obsessed maid emailed me pictures of 3 gold strappy sandals she already owns to ask which I preferred. I told her to wear the most comfortable ones!

My girls are picking their own shoes. I just asked that they not be black.

oh the hilarity of this being posted less than a day after i tried to convince my grandmother that it is “okay” to not have my bridesmaids where all the same dresses and shoes!! luckily, Miss Husky’s post on very very… very varying dresses wasn’t hard to find so i used that as a defense for changing times and a great picture even without uniformity.

my girls (i really like saying that : D) got to choose their own dresses and colors but they all chose the same thing! i feel like something similar will happen with the shoes as well. since it is a military wedding, i think they appreciate the effect of simplicity as much as i do.

your options are perfect, i think! subtlely similar and a great color. they’ll all be happy, i’m sure!

Cute shoes. I’m leaving the shoe picking up to the girls. They even suggested the color (silver) that would go with their dresses. I just said whatever they wanted was fine with me.

While being all matched sounds great, like you, it doesn’t seem practical to me either. I think having the same color & general style scheme is a great start to let everyone pick their own re-wearable shoe for the big day!

Oooh! I asked my girls to get gold shoes, too. Gold can be a very elegant and versatile neutral. They’ll totally be able to wear them again because pale gold shoes go with pretty much ANY color dress!

Your examples are so cute! I really didn’t care what shoes my BMs wore, color or style. I know most of them don’t love shoes like I do!
