Mrs. Locket's Picture
Mrs. Locket, Ithaca, NY Age and Occupation: 25, Research Technician Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28, former Banker hoping to become an Officer of the Law Engagement Date: June 15, 2009 Wedding Date: September 2010 Venue: Heron Hill Winery About Me: I am a little bit of everything all rolled into one: A girly gal with rough edges---I love to get dolled up just as much as I enjoy throwing on some sneaks to toss a ball with Mr. Locket. My love for crafting and creating is quite apparent and I've been referred to as a Wonder Woman/Martha Stewart/Stepford Wife hybrid (yup, I'll take that as a compliment). I adore sewing, photography, sculpture, good eats (mmm tapas), baking, snugging and oh, pretty much everything in between (there's not much I dislike). I am super excited to be planning our vineyard wedding and couldn't be happier to be marrying Mr. Locket. We are a quirky, fun-loving couple residing in our college town with our two pups Maple and Molly. We love to go on hikes, visit our local dog park and to bask in the beauty of many of the local falls and gorges. We are an indecisive pair, but together we somehow manage to make up our minds (it's the easy stuff that's tricky).
About Mrs. Locket

…that make the biggest difference and remind me of why I am marrying Mr. L. He really is the greatest (sorry Ali, but he knocks you out here) and always manages to surprise me with the littlest (sometimes big) things to brighten up any cloudy day. A couple months ago, I was hit with some pretty craptastic news that my family was having trouble on the home front and that it could mean a big change in plans for our wedding day.

At that point, I wasn’t sure what was going on and what would happen. Would my father leave the country? Are my parents getting separated? Will Dad still be at the wedding? How can I afford this on my own? I WAS STRESSED! I didn’t know what to do. I wanted to be there for my family and felt selfish for even thinking of myself in their time of turmoil.

Needless to say, I spent a good part of May breaking down in crying fits and fits of anger and confusion. Poor Mr. L didn’t know which way to turn, but he was there by my side through it all. He even took off early from work one day to tidy up the apartment and surprise me because he knows how stressed a sink full of dishes can get me. (I can’t deal with the clutter sometimes.) And he went a step further and knocked the ball out of the park when he scheduled us a couple’s massage one evening after work. It was pretty much the greatest thing that could happen to me and was AAAAAAMAZINGGGGG! A girl really could get used to it. (Watch out, Mr. L—you are setting the bar.)

And, you know what? I got to document it (not the massage part—just time in the relaxation room)! I know I’m crazy…who brings a camera into a spa? I guess I do, but it was on my person and I didn’t plan on bringing it. And really, how could I not document this in someway? (I mean, it was our first time at a spa together.) Okay, now that you know I am not a nut job, onto the photos.

I met L-Money (that’s one of Mr. Locket’s nicknames) in the relaxation room, where we sipped on tea and listened to meditative tunes.

Mr. L giddy and eager for the hour-long massage:

Sometimes it’s the Little Things… : wedding ithaca relationships Locket13 locket1

and chillaxin’ on a comfy chair:

Sometimes it’s the Little Things… : wedding ithaca relationships Locket21 locket2

Wouldn’t you know…I found bridal magazines waiting to be read:

Sometimes it’s the Little Things… : wedding ithaca relationships Locket31 locket3

…don’t mind if I do:

Sometimes it’s the Little Things… : wedding ithaca relationships Locket41 locket4

With each sip of chamomile and every magazine page turned, the stresses and frustrations I had been feeling were slowly melting away. Soon enough we were kindly escorted to our room and treated to the most incredible hour-long massage. I left feeling calm and collected and was finally starting to put the stress behind me.

FYI, I highly recommend a full-body massage if you can swing it. It’s def worth the splurge when one needs a mini-vacation from wedding stress. We were lucky to score a great price for the two of us and left with 20% off coupons for our next visit (which I am pretty sure we’ll be needing the week before the wedding).

Has your other half surprised you with something special when you really needed it? What little things does your significant other do to cheer you up? What do you do to de-stress?

Sounds amazing and very sweet of your guy! And I think it’s a great idea to save those coupons for right before the wedding! IMO, a massage is always needed :)

We attended a destination wedding for some friends last November, and had a less than stellar experience at the resort.

I was hoping to have the week to de-stress from work, but between noisy, drug abusing, alcoholic next room neighbours, tarantulas, billions of mosquito bites and food poisoning, I was miserable. My honey went to the spa and booked us for a couples massage, and then an afternoon in the spa using the sauna, pool and hot tub.

It was a bright spot in an otherwise horrible vacation, thanks for reminding me how adorable and thoughtful my Mr. is, you are a lucky lady as well! :)

How sweet and you totally needed it. When McGroom is stressed, I rub his feet or scratch his head and always give him his favorite IPA. He makes me dinner, tells me to spoil myself, and constantly tells me how much he loves me. Also, we’re getting a couples massage on our honeymoon!

awww, he sounds like such a sweetie. I’m really glad he was able to lift your spirits. I had a “stress filled, don’t look at me the wrong way or I’ll cry” kind of Monday. I went to the gym to blow off steam, came home, made dinner, and FI suggested I take a shower to relax. When I came out of the bathroom, he had a huge slice of cake and a big glass of milk waiting for me. He is just the best. . .really

What a sweet guy you have! And no shame in taking pictures, my camera lives in my purse 24/7, that just means you’re a good blogger ;)
