Dressing Mr. Socks

August 4th, 2010 @ 12:05 pm by Mrs. Socks

Mr. Socks is a surprisingly fashion-forward guy. I say “surprisingly” simply because… well, most people seem surprised when I tell them that he deeply cares about the quality and fit of his clothes.

He’s an avid cyclist (mostly during the warmer months) and he runs every day on our treadmill. He works very hard to maintain a trim and fit build, so it’s a good thing that he’s conscious about what he wears––I don’t want him to hide his hard work under sweatshirts and baggy T shirts all of the time!

Mr. Socks’ fashion rules:

  1. Button downs are always a classic choice
  2. Sunglasses are awesome
  3. Display yourself proudly
  4. Not looking at the camera is cool

He LOVES dressing up, so he’s definitely looking forward to being dapper on our wedding day. But as much as he’d love to don a Tom Ford suit and look like James Bond…

Side note: As I put this in, he looked over and said “I’d rather have a three-button vest.” LOLZ!

Sadly, these suits are out of our price range. (Another side note: He looked over again and said “Are you sure they’re out of our price range?” *sad face*)

I happened to know a great way to get a suit that’s normally out of our price range for a steal: Saks’ Off 5th Outlet! We have one about a half an hour away from us, and they feature brands like Hugo Boss, Armani, Burberry, and all of the other delicious high-end names that usually cost upwards of $1000.

Mr. Socks ended up buying two suits from Off 5th, and we love both of them so much, we can’t decide which suit he should wear for the wedding! Whichever suit he doesn’t wear for our wedding day will be worn on the day we have our civil ceremony. So hive, I put it to you to let us know which suit you like for our wedding day! (Please ignore any mess you may see on the couch and coffee table. Thank you.)

Suit #1: Theory. Originally retailed for $850. Bought it for $250. We’d buy a longer french-cuff shirt to go underneath this one since the sleeves are a bit short and he wants to show some cuff!

And he had to practice his obligatory jump photo for the wedding:

Suit #2: Hugo Boss. Originally retailed for $1000, but we snagged it for $350.

He’s got that jump down cold!! I’m gonna have to start practicing my own jump!

So hive, what do you think?

Which suit should Mr. Socks wear for our wedding?

Well he looks just dapper in both those suits! As a lover of the darker, charcoal colors, I think he should wear the Hugo Boss suit to your wedding!

I like the Hugo Boss, because it seems to be a more flattering cut for him. Mr. Socks is quite a catch!

I want to like #1 (I tend to like lighter grey suits) but either the color or something else just seems a bit off. I think the color/fit of #2 does way more for him. I wish my guy were even slightly fashion-conscious lol. :)

I’d definitely say Hugo Boss — It looks like something a Beatle would wear!
But, he looks great in both!

You are lucky Mr. Socks is fashion concious - Mr. Valhalla really doesn’t have a clue fashion wise (although he did look smashing on our wedding day!). I voted for the Hugo Boss suit - it just seems better for a reason I can’t put my finger on! But I agree with Mrs. Pudding - Mr. Socks is quite a catch :)

I liked the first one, and then I saw the second one and it wins hands down imo. I think the darker color compliments him better. I also love deep charcoal grey suits.

they’re both great, but i think the darker one (hugo boss) looks a bit more formal.

I think the Hugo Boss fits him better and he looks more comfortable and care free!

I love him in the Hugo Boss. I think part of the reason is that suit #1’s sleeves are too short as you said. I wouldn’t count on a French cuff fixing the problem though. The amount of shirt sleeve visible may just emphasize the shortness of the suit sleeve.

It is well worth taking that jacket to a tailor and having them lengthen the sleeve with as much fabric is available in the hem.

I love that he’s so style-conscious! Mr. Turtle is the same way! I love both of the suits on him! I feel like I’m leaning toward the Hugo Boss, but that could be because I’m easily influenced by the above comments! ;)

I just laughed out loud (at work) at the pictures of him jumping. Can he teach my fiance a thing or two about fashion please?

I love the Theory one and voted for that, but you better keep both of them because they both look great!
