Our Bouquets are Finished!

August 5th, 2010 @ 6:36 pm by Mrs. Plaid

I decided at the beginning of our wedding planning to not use fresh flowers. I ultimately decided to go with tissue paper carnations in whites and yellows.

I’ve never been a huge fan of carnations, but in a big bunch they’re gorgeous. I used Folding Tree’s tutorial for tissue paper carnations. So without further ado, here are our bouquets:

Our Bouquets are Finished! : wedding austin diy flowers 100 047

There are three for my ladies that are yellow and white and then my bouquet is white with yellow edges.

Our Bouquets are Finished! : wedding austin diy flowers 100 04701 These are for my ladies

Our Bouquets are Finished! : wedding austin diy flowers 100 04702 This one’s for me!

The best part is that these 4 bouquets only cost about $20 to make. It would have been hundreds if they were fresh. I also plan on making boutonnieres for the men and corsages for the moms using the same type of flowers.

Have you considered using alternatives for fresh flowers?

These are so lovely. I love the yellow bits, especially the yellow edges on the white flowers. Nice work!

I like them a lot! I especially love the yellow around the edges of your bouquet, it’s still white and traditional, but with a really cool twist.

Those came out very nicely! Definitely a great alternative. We’re using pinecones and other non-floral trim for our bouts but using fresh flowers for everything else. We got a great deal on our florist and I just don’t have the patience to create our own bouquets.

how many flowers did it take for your bouquet to look so full? I might definitely have to attempt this DIY! They look wonderful!

How long did this take? You may have just save me a lot of money. :-) These are gorgeous! I think it has the feathery look of peonies actually.

I did silk flowers and made 5 bouquets, 8 bouts, an alter hanging, and 6 vases full of flowers for the alter all for about $100.

I always thought paper flowers looked too fake but those are so pretty!

@June (planetjune): Your tutorial was super easy to follow. Thank you so much!
@sapphirebride: I wish I could have used pine cones. In my alternative Maine wedding, I totally would have.
@mrsawesome09: I think the bridal bouquet is 20 flowers and the bridesmaid bouquets are 15 flowers. The nice thing is that you can make these flowers as fluffy or as compact as you want!
@tdizzle: With my sister’s help, I think it took maybe 2 or 3 nights of watching TV to get through all the bouquets. The longest part was the cutting of the circles and the floral wire. I think maybe 6ish hours but that was with TV distracting us.

I guessed right! You know we won’t be using real flowers in the bouquets! It’s such a nice change to have something that can last a lifetime.

Thanks ladies!

@Ms. MoxieMonkey: After I cut the circles out, I held them all together in a stack and just colored the edges with a yellow marker.

Awesome job! I also decided to go the tissue paper carnation route for my flowers. All of my centerpieces are tissue paper carnations and my/my maids bouquets are as well. I made some mini carnations for the guys boutonnieres. I paired them with some feathers and twigs/berries that I got from Michaels and spray painted black -They turned out pretty good. I should really post some photos.
