About Mrs. Buttons

So… we’ve been married for a total of 2 months (as of last Friday). 2 months=8 weeks=60 days to wear our new wedding bands.

I’ll admit it: in the course of our engagement, I did forget to put my engagement ring on a few times when we left the house. In the past 418 days (yes… I did the math… nerd), I would say it happened more than 3 times, but definitely less than 10. I do happen to be one of those girls who doesn’t wear her rings at all times. When I get home, they are off my hand and in their box/safe place immediately. I don’t wear them to the beach, I don’t wear them in the shower, and I definitely don’t cook with them on. Realistically, I probably spend more time with them off than on. I’m pretty adamant about cleaning my rings regularly (aka at least every other week, depending on how much I wear them) and keeping them in amazing condition.

Anyway, back to Mr. Buttons. Before the wedding, he never wore rings on a regular basis, so I can understand how this “change” in his routine could throw him off a bit.

He doesn’t wear a watch, so putting on “accessories” in the morning other than shirt, pants, and shoes is somewhat foreign to him. And, he prefers to remove his ring when he gets home, much like I do…so this action does require him to remember to place the band back on his finger the next day.

So, I have to laugh and shake my head when he leaves for work in the morning and I walk into our bedroom to see this:

My Husband is Forgetful Sometimes : wedding rings tampa Img 121

An abandoned… sad little ring… sitting on our dresser. I know he doesn’t do it on purpose, but I do have to razz him just a bit; in the past 60 days he has forgotten his ring more times than I have in the past year. Punk. Don’t worry though - I don’t get mad at him for it; it is an honest mistake. But… he IS getting used to wearing the band, slowly but surely. Sometimes adjusting to a new “routine” can take time.

Does anyone else out there have trouble remembering to wear their ring(s)? How about your significant other? I know Mr. Buttons isn’t the only offender.

I’m a fan of never taking it off - I know you said he prefers to take it off but a plain band, unlike a diamond band is very little trouble. If he squirms through a week or two of not taking it off - he’ll forget he’s wearing it. Much simpler than remembering to put it on.

Hilarious! Only because my husband has the same problem…I actually said to myself today “oh wow he hasn’t forgotten the ring once this week!”…although now that I said that I’m sure he will tomorrow :)

I only forget when I get up in the dark to hit the gym on the way to work. It’s easy to miss that black box on my bedside table when the light never gets turned on.

I don’t think my husband has ever forgotten because he’s very methodical and just keeps the ring box next to his keys and wallet.

We both take off our rings to sleep and sometimes I take it off as soon as I get home. I don’t like to cook with them on.

I’m with you! I don’t take my engagement ring off as much, but I don’t shower or sleep in it or anything. I have forgotten my ring maybe 3 times in the last year that we’ve been engaged, and everytime I do, my fiance likes to tease me about it. He is very much like your husband in that he does not wear rings or anything and I just know he is going to forget his ring from time to time. I will probably tease him a few times as payback, but I definitely understand it will be an adjustment for him.

We will be wearing ours all the time - even though neither one has worn rings previously. This is mostly because we don’t trust ourselves not to lose it, knock it off the table into somewhere unexpected, etc…

I am the offender!!! I take my e-ring off and leave it all over the house. I take it off before I go to the gym and then forget where I put it when I get home. He finds it and re-proposes with it.

I’m on Team Never Take them Off. I mean almost never. In the 2 months of being married I’ve taken my rings off twice - 1. to take photos at the wedding, 2. scuba diving. Mine isn’t that huge and I’ve gotten used to wearing them - so has DH.

Mine is high set so I have to take it off to sleep, plus my fingers swell when I’m sleeping. Also take them off to shower, work outside, and some cooking. Now the humidity is so bad I can’t even fit them on! Got a replacement en route tho so my poor finger isn’t feeling so naked. Hubs can’t wear his to work, so he rarely wears his, only when we go out and usually only if I remember to give it to him. No worries though, we both know we are happily married, and my dad didn’t wear one for 28 years until a few years ago when my mom finally got him a replacement

I want my rings off as soon as step foot in the house, and Mr. Snow never wears his band because it is too big (but he doesn’t want to get it resized b/c he’s really skinny right now and doesn’t plan to stay that way).

I also don’t like to wear my rings if it is hot or humid b/c they become uncomfortable, and I don’t have a special place for them when I’m not wearing them (which is most of the time). Usually I slide them on my watch band or sit them on the window sill, but that’s hit or miss…

We totally fail at rings.

Too funny because my husband is exactly the same way…AND he has the exact same ring as yours does. We’ve been married two months (today!) and he’s finally getting used to it.

He gets that weird pruney/wrinkle skin if he wears it for too long though…does your husbands do that? Maybe mine just has “special” skin.

haha yeah, I can see that happening a few times in our house–I’ll just have to remind him as I put my ring on in the morning, I guess!

@Arachna: I think he is just as paranoid as I am about scratching it, etc. He definitely doesn’t want to wear it while showering! On the other hand, my dad never takes his off, so I know its fine for some people.

@Mustang: It is indeed! We love it.

@MrsSl82be: I have a high setting on my e-ring as well…makes you really think about taking it off!

@atout: Hmmm I haven’t noticed that problem as of yet…I wonder if it has to do with the sizing?

Well mine is super obsessive about wearing it…in fact he’s usually the one asking me where’s the ring? He cracks me up.

Seeing a photo of Mr. Button’s ring makes me REALLY excited to get Mr. C’s ring in the mail! :)

Good timing, Mr P IMed me this AM that he forgot his ring :( sad face… he loves wearing it and he feels naked without it now- less than 30 days later. I giggle though whenever he forgets it because he finally understands how strange it felt when I would forget my e-ring.

I definitely takes time to get used to wearing a ring. That said, I REALLY hope that picture is not indicative of how ya’ll leave your rings when you’re not wearing them. It 110% should be in or on something!!!!

@Miss Cardigan: I know right?!?! So exciting…you’ll love it :)

@Mrs. Pretzel: He’s called me a few times from his car to let me know…rather than the call at lunch when I say…”guess what you forgotttt!” ;) And that is so true - now he knows why you would freak out if your forgot it!!!

@fromcharleston: Well, now clearly you didn’t read my post, as I said that as soon as I get home, the rings go in a box/safe place, and that I am very anal about keeping them all in good condition. I know how to care for jewelry, thank you very much.

Neither of us take ours off. I just KNOW I would take mine off and forget it somewhere.
