Sister Socks Says “I Do”

August 5th, 2010 @ 9:15 am by Mrs. Socks

I can’t believe it’s been almost two months since my big sister’s wedding! If you’ll recall, I got the email to be a bee just one day before her wedding! Now that her pictures are in, I thought I’d do a couple of posts on her day and my first experience as a bridesmaid and maid of honor!

Her wedding ceremony was at Lakeside Christian Church in Lakeside, KY. It was the church we belonged to as kids before we moved to Cincinnati, and Sister Socks still felt connected to that church.

All images are by Daniel Michael, Inc Photography based in Cincinnati, Ohio. He shoots in film instead of digital, which surprised me! Some of my favorite photographs were only captured in b&w because of this though and I desperately wish I had the color versions since I’m a bit partial to color photographs.

We got ready at the church…

Dad Socks got to see Sister Socks for the first time—it was quite the tearjerker!

Sister Socks and BIL Socks got to do their first look and all of our bridal party photos at Spring Grove Cemetery (yes, a Cemetery, but it’s also an Arboretum and very pretty… it’s definitely not morbid!).

Gorgeous, huh?

Now, watch carefully as our family of four grows to six:

And my favorite image from the bridal party photos:

We were, of course, laughing at Mama Socks since she was unintentionally being hilarious. I especially wish I had this photo in color.

So what did I learn? (I feel like I need to put a lesson in here instead of JUST gratuitous photos of my sister’s wedding)

  • I learned all about how the flow of the wedding day will go. Sister Socks was admirably calm during the whole day and I really enjoyed being able to spend time with her while we got our hair done, got ready, and I would love to be able to do that with her for my wedding day.
  • I also learned that even though it rained a bit during the photos, it wasn’t the end of the world and we still got some great shots.
  • This experience also gave me a sneak peek of how much LOVE will be around me on my wedding day. It was incredible how all of Sister Socks’ bridesmaids rallied around her to help her with whatever she needed, and being the Maid of Honor, I wanted nothing more than for her day to be perfect for her.

Did you attend/participate in a wedding shortly before your own? Did you make mental notes for your own day?

How exactly does a wedding flow? I’ve only been to 2 in my adult life, so I’m at a loss. Yeah, I’ve read stuff, but I still feel the need for more.

Gorgeous!!! It’s definitely good to be in a wedding while you’re planning one - I learned so much when I was in BM Audrey’s wedding!

No participation in weddings right before my own…but wow! you all look so great and happy and pretty….also you should have your sis check with the photographer..sometimes the B&W images are converted from colored ones.

@Miss Locket: Unfortunately, those shots were taken on b/w film so they probably can’t be converted unless I take some crayolas to the negatives :-) Even then, does that work? lol I have no clue.

Gorgeous pics! My best friend is getting married next month and I’m her MOH (first time in a wedding), so hopefully I can learn a few things before my wedding in April.

I am in love with Sister Socks bouquet! What kind of flowers are those? Deep red with a white center? And that picture with the bride and pond is stunning!

I have never been to a wedding, my own will be my first. Despite researching and reading up on ceremonies and reception, I still have a somewhat difficult time picturing how it will all flow together.

This is so cool to see a wedding on here from my hometown! I want to see more! : ) Oh, and I am very surprised to hear that her photography used film! I really didn’t realize some photographers still did that. Her photos however are gorgeous! : )

Great pictures! I can’t believe that there are professional photographers who still shoot film. Regardless, the picture came out beautiful. I am sorry that some of your favorites can’t be colorized. I’ve never been in a wedding before, so my own will be my first. Luckily, all of my bridesmaids (not my MOH) and two of the groomsmen have been in multiple weddings (some including their own), so we can look to them for guidance.

I haven’t but my future hubby has been in two wedding this year along (& a few before this year!) so this last one was a really great learning experience because we were both really great friends with both the bride & groom and they let us be really involved with the big day. In fact the first thing the bride said to me in the receiving line was “next year this will be you” :-)

You could try hand-tinting them (Photoshop or special paint or marker kit). It won’t be as bold as a true color photo but it’s a start.

What a gorgeous dress your sister has! Can you tell me who it’s by?

@Miss Glasses: The bouquet is of red roses (sorry I forget exactly what type) and it is a rhinestone center pin to make them sparkle.

@Nikki The dress is the line blue by enzoani
