Mrs. Locket's Picture
Mrs. Locket, Ithaca, NY Age and Occupation: 25, Research Technician Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28, former Banker hoping to become an Officer of the Law Engagement Date: June 15, 2009 Wedding Date: September 2010 Venue: Heron Hill Winery About Me: I am a little bit of everything all rolled into one: A girly gal with rough edges---I love to get dolled up just as much as I enjoy throwing on some sneaks to toss a ball with Mr. Locket. My love for crafting and creating is quite apparent and I've been referred to as a Wonder Woman/Martha Stewart/Stepford Wife hybrid (yup, I'll take that as a compliment). I adore sewing, photography, sculpture, good eats (mmm tapas), baking, snugging and oh, pretty much everything in between (there's not much I dislike). I am super excited to be planning our vineyard wedding and couldn't be happier to be marrying Mr. Locket. We are a quirky, fun-loving couple residing in our college town with our two pups Maple and Molly. We love to go on hikes, visit our local dog park and to bask in the beauty of many of the local falls and gorges. We are an indecisive pair, but together we somehow manage to make up our minds (it's the easy stuff that's tricky).
About Mrs. Locket

Last time we talked about shoes I had mentioned my little problem

…I have myself some duck feet: wide and flat––much like Miss Daisy Duck’s (sorry Daisy, don’t mean to dis), and well, it makes finding shoes a challenge. (Daisy, I don’t know how you do it!)

I wasn’t able to find much until I came across the David’s Bridal website where I found a few styles that I liked and that I thought were available in wide sizes (the Shellie, Makenzie, Paige, and Martina). So I planned a short daytime trip and drove out of town to the closest DB to get my hands on (or feet in) some of the styles I had found.

“Hello Shellie, Makenzie, Paige, and Martina. My name is Locket and I have wide feet. Do you think you could help me out?”

Well…they did their best, and my experience went a little something like this…

“Arghhhh…why aren’t any of these shoes in the right place?!?”

Up first was the Shellie…the Shellie, whom I thought was available in a wide size but turned out to only come in regular (oops, oversight). It actually wasn’t so bad, and I was able to squeeze my footsies in them with no problem, but something about the look just didn’t sit right.

“Shellie, oh Shellie, I like you…but I am not in love.”

Then I met Paige…Paige and I got along just great, but neither Mr. L nor I were fans of the pointed toes.

**Yup, Mr. L came along…he doesn’t like me driving long distances alone (because I always manage to get sleepy), and he was hoping for a post-shopping lunch at the Olive Garden (which he got).

“Dear Paige, you are great, but I could kill a man with your toe.”

And then I met Martina, and I was def feeling her…I liked the sparkle and the way she made my feet look narrow, but Mr. L was not digging her. He just didn’t like them, and when I asked why… “I just think they are ugly, no specific reason…you can definitely find something better.”

Normally I wouldn’t listen to him if I liked something and he didn’t, but that day I did because I know he wants me to look my best. And he was there to offer his opinion, so I best be taking it.

“Martina, we can’t be friends…my fiance doesn’t like you.”

We also looked at the Makenzie, but she was not available in my size, so I decided to check out the clearance section to see if it had anything to offer. I am glad I did because that is where I met Miss Macy.

I liked the her, L-money liked her, and she was on sale for $19.99, so I bought her and signed her up for a dye job (in plum). No, I didn’t love her, but she is going to be a decent backup if all else fails, and for 20 bucks I can’t complain if I never use her.

I am still on the prowl for pretty purple shoes that fit and hope to find something I can fall head over heels for (haha, that was puntastic).

Was finding shoes an easy task? What made it difficult/easy?

OMG - LOVE LOVE LOVE your tattoo! (I studied Chinese for a few years and I think I’m mostly just really excited 1. that I can read it, and 2. that you actually have a real Chinese word tattoo’d on your foot - because I’ve seen way too many people get something-that-doesn’t-mean-what-they-think-it-does tattoo’d on themselves)

Cute shoes and can’t beat that price too! Glad you found a fit. :)

Shoes were hard! I feel your pain–I am a 9W. Our David’s Bridal didn’t have many wide widths available to try on, so I had to turn to shopping online. I got a pair from Zappos.com and pair from ShoeBuy.com; both offer free shipping and free returns shipping, so sending one of them back will be a breeze. I ended up with the Tango Too by Coloriffics, about $50 total (with coupon code).

Oh the saga of a wide footed woman. It never ends. However, check out Jessica Simpson shoes. She works for my wide foot and her shoes are great! They’re also comfortable. Since they’re a little on the expensive side (putting it nicely), go to TJ Maxx, Ross, or Marshall’s. Naughty Monkeys also work for me too, but they’re really fun shoes (read crazy), so they may not work for your wedding.

Coloriffics as wide shoes and they dye them! More pricey then what you got, but I ordered a really cute pair in wide and am having them dye them. They shipped them for me to try on with a color swatch, then I sent them back to be dyed.

Cute! Excellent find! Perfect price! Honestly, I don’t think anybody ever pays any attention to the bride’s shoes besides the bride & the photog. I’ve never been a fan of spending a bunch of money on something that will be hidden up under a long dress ~ unless you’re a short dress bride, of course.

Check out Nordstrom if you’re still looking… they have a wide variety of sizes available (for narrow, normal, and wide feet). The website even tells you how things might fit. The best thing would be to check out the website, and then go to the store and try things on (they will ship the correct size to your house if they don’t have them).

I do love the $20 deal you got, though!

@daydreamwanderer: Hahaha I am glad it does say what it’s supposed to too! I remember when I first got it done I was getting a pedi and the tech told me what it said, which was a relief to know it was the right thing. So cool that you can read it!@kitchenkoala: I thought about doing the online purchasing too, but really feel the need to try something on before I buy it…glad you found something that worked for you!@TheFutureMcBride: that’s surprising that JSs shoes work..I heard that they were some of the most uncomfortable shoes ever…thanks for the tips :0

I ended up with two pairs of shoes (neither especially cheap, although by the standards of some of the shoes I’ve seen not bad) because I bought to and had a hard time deciding and realized that the ones I decided against had the worse return policy and I had gone past the return date. I love them, but I’m not quite sure when I will wear them. Oh well. I plan to wear my wedding shoes to death.

The ones you chose look the most comfortable, but I like Martina the best. Macy is cute though!

I’m sad that you and Martina couldn’t be friends but I think Macy is a good compromise. I am a freak who bought my shoes before my dress and am just lucky they work together. In my defense they are gold and sparkly! I believe the sparkles somehow hypnotized me or something. At least now I have plenty of time to wear them around the house and break them in?

Finding my shoes was difficult because I got my heart set on a pair that was discontinued. It was a long wait until another designer came out with a similar colored shoed.

I LOVE getting unexpected finds in the clearance section! Hope these work out after the dye job or you find something better soon! I’m a little nervous about this one.. I’ve also heard you should try to have the shoes before the dress?

I was really lucky with my shoes. I knew I would have an ivory dress and while we were dress shopping we just hopped in to a DSW and there they were. A lovely pair of gold shoes, comfy and strappy. They have looked great with my dress during my fittings. I have considered going shoe shopping again because I keep reading these shoe posts but the few times I have tried I go back to the ones I bought. Happy me. Good luck on your shoe hunt.

the shoes that caught my eye were out of my budget (Giuseppe Zanotti not!), so i went with an existing pair i had. already broken in, sorta new, and still adorable :)

@Miss Locket: Maybe they’re uncomfortable for not-wide-footed women because I love them and am very comfortable. As I said, they almost always have some at TJ Maxx or the like. Try them on, find your size, and order what you want online. It’s one of the few shoes I can order online.
