Like many brides these days, I have come to realize that we do not need to use the traditional ceremonial tunes that we have all become accustomed to. Yes, Canon in D is quite lovely, and the Wedding March is a great prelude to the bride walking down the aisle, but in my opinion it has been overdone and quite frankly I am over it.
After a few discussions with Mr. Locket, we have decided to kick tradition to the curb and join the masses of new; we plan to change things up with songs we like and songs that will hold a special meaning to us and our wedding. First up, we thought of the guys and gals.
Wedding Party Score:
I really loved the idea of doing something fun and upbeat for our wedding party and thought that this version of the Beatles’ “Come Together” would be perfect.
However, after much thought, Mr. Locket and I decided that even though it would be fun, it wouldn’t be as fitting to our vision as we would like. (Perhaps we could find another place for it…maybe for seating our guests?)
We decided to go with a song that is very dear to us, a song that we almost thought wouldn’t fit. The song? “Chasing Cars” by Snow Patrol. It’s our song and has held a special meaning to us for a few years now. We had been hoping to incorporate the song into our wedding day somehow, but had been worried that it would be too mopey and not romantic enough. That was until we came across this lovely string quartet version of it.
Aaahhhh. Isn’t it perfect? I think it sounds absolutely beautiful, and hearing it really takes me back.
The Bridal Walk:
And for myself we’ve decided on this lovely song by Priscilla Ahn. I instantly fell in love with the song when I heard it in the movie Bride Wars and knew then that I would need to incorporate it into our wedding somehow. It really reminds me of a being a little girl and living out my dreams (walking down the aisle being one of them), and though it may not be perfectly fitting, it is beautiful.
Post Ceremony:
And lastly, to finish up the ceremony we’ve chosen the string quartet version of “All You Need Is Love.” Ideally, we would go out with a bang and do it up Love Actually style with musicians hidden in our audience, but since that’s not possible, we will let our DJ take the cue from the officiant.
What do you think? What does your ceremony soundtrack sound like?
