Mrs. Locket's Picture
Mrs. Locket, Ithaca, NY Age and Occupation: 25, Research Technician Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28, former Banker hoping to become an Officer of the Law Engagement Date: June 15, 2009 Wedding Date: September 2010 Venue: Heron Hill Winery About Me: I am a little bit of everything all rolled into one: A girly gal with rough edges---I love to get dolled up just as much as I enjoy throwing on some sneaks to toss a ball with Mr. Locket. My love for crafting and creating is quite apparent and I've been referred to as a Wonder Woman/Martha Stewart/Stepford Wife hybrid (yup, I'll take that as a compliment). I adore sewing, photography, sculpture, good eats (mmm tapas), baking, snugging and oh, pretty much everything in between (there's not much I dislike). I am super excited to be planning our vineyard wedding and couldn't be happier to be marrying Mr. Locket. We are a quirky, fun-loving couple residing in our college town with our two pups Maple and Molly. We love to go on hikes, visit our local dog park and to bask in the beauty of many of the local falls and gorges. We are an indecisive pair, but together we somehow manage to make up our minds (it's the easy stuff that's tricky).
About Mrs. Locket

Ceremonial Soundtrack

August 6th, 2010 @ 1:05 pm by Mrs. Locket

Like many brides these days, I have come to realize that we do not need to use the traditional ceremonial tunes that we have all become accustomed to. Yes, Canon in D is quite lovely, and the Wedding March is a great prelude to the bride walking down the aisle, but in my opinion it has been overdone and quite frankly I am over it.

After a few discussions with Mr. Locket, we have decided to kick tradition to the curb and join the masses of new; we plan to change things up with songs we like and songs that will hold a special meaning to us and our wedding. First up, we thought of the guys and gals.

Wedding Party Score:

I really loved the idea of doing something fun and upbeat for our wedding party and thought that this version of the Beatles’ “Come Together” would be perfect.

However, after much thought, Mr. Locket and I decided that even though it would be fun, it wouldn’t be as fitting to our vision as we would like. (Perhaps we could find another place for it…maybe for seating our guests?)

We decided to go with a song that is very dear to us, a song that we almost thought wouldn’t fit. The song? “Chasing Cars” by Snow Patrol. It’s our song and has held a special meaning to us for a few years now. We had been hoping to incorporate the song into our wedding day somehow, but had been worried that it would be too mopey and not romantic enough. That was until we came across this lovely string quartet version of it.

Aaahhhh. Isn’t it perfect? I think it sounds absolutely beautiful, and hearing it really takes me back.

The Bridal Walk:

And for myself we’ve decided on this lovely song by Priscilla Ahn. I instantly fell in love with the song when I heard it in the movie Bride Wars and knew then that I would need to incorporate it into our wedding somehow. It really reminds me of a being a little girl and living out my dreams (walking down the aisle being one of them), and though it may not be perfectly fitting, it is beautiful.

Post Ceremony:

And lastly, to finish up the ceremony we’ve chosen the string quartet version of “All You Need Is Love.” Ideally, we would go out with a bang and do it up Love Actually style with musicians hidden in our audience, but since that’s not possible, we will let our DJ take the cue from the officiant.

What do you think? What does your ceremony soundtrack sound like?

We did all you need is love as our recessional too! On the organ.. it was hot. We did the traditional Canon in D for our processional. I have loved it since I was a little girl and it’s what I always wanted and I didn’t care that it was over done, I couldn’t imagine my wedding without it. BUT.. I was planning on having canon in D for the bridesmaids AND for me. Hubs had.a.hissy.fit. He was dead set that I needed to come out to the bridal march, despite mine and my mother’s protests he was having none of it.. so I let him win that one, and I will say it turned out lovely.

Technically, it’s not all figured out yet. What? My wedding is next Sunday? I had no idea. Anyway, I’ll be walking into Nirvana played by VSQ , but I don’t know which song yet and we’ll walk out to “500 Miles” because I would walk 1,000 miles to fall down at McGroom’s d-oor-oor-oor. badada! badada! So much fun! “500 Miles” was the first thing we picked.

I love those choices! I really want to use non-traditional music for our ceremony but it’s “frowned upon” at our church. I’m going to ask our organist anyway. We’ll see. “Dream” is a beautiful choice. And “Chasing Cars” is our first dance song! And “All You Need is Love” is my first choice for a recessional song, if we’re allowed.

Love the Beatles of course, and the Snow Patrol song sounds very pretty in string format, great choice!

I love these choices. Priscilla Ahn is one of my favorite singers.

we used “The Dress Looks Good on You” by Sufjan Stevens, “Luckiest” by Ben Folds, and “Lucky” by Jason Mraz w/ Colbie Callaitt for our pre-ceremony & processional music (I walked to “Lucky”). Our recessional was “Two Step” by Dave Matthews Band - that was the one thing I knew I would have at our wedding, even before we set the date :)

Everybody being seated music: no idea. Something mellow. Will probably give a few ideas to our DJ but leave it up to them.
Wedding party entrance: not sure yet. I’m thinking maybe the VSQ version of “Somebody to Love” or “God Only Knows”
Bridal entrance: a classical guitar version of “Storybook Love”- the theme from Princess Bride
Our recessional: At the moment I’m really loving “What I Wouldn’t Do” by A Fine Frenzy
First dance: a toss up between “Lullaby” by Dixie Chicks or “Heavenly Day” by Patty Griffin

I’m having a strong reaction to this post! Your songs seem so perfect for you!! I have absolutely not dealt with our song choices because it seems overwhelming. Maybs I’ll snag yours and call it a day ;)

One of my best friends is playing our ceremony, and since I was about 15 I’ve joked with him that I want him to play “Ziggy Stardust” from start to finish at my wedding…so 16 years later, he’s going to play (instrumental) 4 songs off of the album (all the “slow” ones, as he puts it) during the guest arrival, and I’m going to walk down the aisle to “Lady Stardust”…most people won’t know what it is and will just think it’s pretty guitar music, some people will recognize it, and it will mean something to me and my fiance since “Moonage Daydream” is our first request whenever we see my friend play out!

I have no idea what most of our songs will be, except when we are being introduced it’ll be Outkast “Hey Ya!” and our aisle exit will be “I Believe In A Thing Called Love” a la Pencils!

I love this idea so much! I am waiting to hear back from our church but really hoping I can also play string music to popular songs. Miss Cardigan also fantastically introduced us to VSQ & I’m glad to hear of a different string quartet too- more possibilities!

OOH & how could I forget! Friday we went on a winery tour for a work function of my fiancee’s office and we went to your venue Locket! Oh so beautiful & we were there just before closing time as a wedding was about to begin any minute. You are going to have a fabulous time for sure :-)
