Mrs. French Fries's Picture
Mrs. French Fries, Milwaukee Age and Occupation: 27, Paralegal Fiance's Age and Occupation: 35, Investments Advisor Engagement Date: September 20, 2008 Wedding Date: June 2010 Venue: Ceremony: Catholic Church, Reception: Hotel Ballroom About Me: I'm a Midwestern girl who longs to live in a warmer climate (my feet would be happy in flip flops any day!). I love travel, impromptu napping, grilled cheese sandwiches, my iPhone, singing with reckless abandon in my car, and Mr. French Fries.
About Mrs. French Fries

Where we last left off, Mr. FF and I had dropped everything off at our venue, and were driving back to our casa. I couldn’t help but overhear the forecast for the next day, our wedding day, on the radio.

“…and for tomorrow, there’s a 30% chance of heavy rain and high wind. Some of these storms may be severe and could include localized flooding and hail. High around 90 degrees.”

My stomach dropped into my toes. I had been checking the weather forecast the entire week like it was my job, and every day I would hear something different. One day the forecast would be 80 degrees and sunny (aka perfect) and the next it would be 94 degrees and an 80% chance of rain. So, basically, they had no effing clue what it was going to do outside.

Because I’m somewhat of a superstitious person, when I was at Target previously that week, I decided not to buy a cute umbrella and Wellies, because I didn’t want to jinx it.

As if preparing for the rain would ensure that it rained that day. I distinctly remember taking the pink Wellies out of my cart and putting them back on the shelf. “If I buy these,” I reasoned, “it’s pretty much guaranteed to rain on our wedding day. I’ll take my chances.”

When we arrived at home, Mr. FF had heard the same forecast that I did, and started doing damage control. He told me that they don’t know what it’s going to do outside until the day of, and that they said it was only a 30% chance, which is way less than half. That our ceremony and reception were both indoors, and the only thing that we needed to do outside was take pictures. I took a deep breath, reminded myself that a 30% chance is far from a certainty, and that it most likely wouldn’t rain the entire day. Plus, it was a gorgeous, blue sky day outside, and I had pre-wedding pampering to get to!

The rest of the day before our rehearsal was a blur—Mr. FF went golfing with his brother and some of his groomsmen, while I spent the day checking into our hotel and getting a manicure and pedicure with my MOH and one of my bridesmaids. Before I knew it, Mr. FF was knocking on the door to our hotel suite, picking me up to go to our rehearsal…

I can’t wait to find out what happened. As an outdoor ceremony/reception bride who just reached the “I can check the weather on the 10 day forecast” bride, I’m really on the edge of my seat. Hopefully, you won’t say it rained. And what are Wellies?

Wisconsin weather still baffles me! One day we have no chance of rain, and the next we’re having violent storms. Or vice versa!

Totally rained on our wedding day. But again, indoor ceremony, indoor reception. My dress was pretty darned wrinkled walking down the aisle though. But in the end it was all fine. I should have bought the wellies though (I did the same thing) - but I did buy a crap ton of umbrellas for me, the hubs, and basically everyone in our extended families. :)

I always say - 30% chance of rain? 70% chance it WON’T rain! ah, I would not check the weather the week before our wedding because, well, I figured there wasn’t anything I could do about it!

Yup, weather.com and accuweather did the SAME guessing game with me. It was like a drunken office party where everyday people would throw darts at a weather dartboard. It went from being 80 adn sunny to 108 and severe thunderstorms every other day.

It ended up being hot, but sunny and not a cloud in the sky! :)

Lucky you were having an indoor ceremony! We are having an outdoor one and I would’ve panicked if that was my forecast. The weather is not my friend, ever. I hope things turned out ok!

On pins and needles waiting to hear how the weather turned out! (I would have been opposite superstitious with the Wellies… thinking if I buy then then it definitely won’t rain.)

I feel the same way! If I buy the rain gear- it’s doing to rain right, although sometimes I feel like if I don’t buy it then of course it WILL rain. Haha can’t wait to hear what happened to you- hopefully not rain?!
