Go with the flow
Go with the flow
This is pretty much what ran through my mind as I anxiously neared the dressing room… “go with the flow.” If she doesn’t fit it’s not the end of the world, right?
I was very worried because we ordered my dress months ago in a smaller size than was recommended, and when I tried her on, she was about six sizes too small. So I wasn’t really sure how she would look or if she would fit.
There she is, hanging pretty:

Alone in the dressing room, I couldn’t believe how quickly the butterflies filled my stomach. I was a mess of nerves, but soon enough I stepped into her and instantly felt an overwhelming wave of relief because I could tell that my hips fit!
With a proud grin on and an open back, I walked out of the fitting room and patiently (who am I kidding, excitedly) waited to be laced up by the sales consultant.

As I was getting laced up, the nerves kept on building (I hadn’t looked in a mirror yet), and I was dying to turn around and catch a glimpse of myself, especially since Mom started to get teary eyed.
And, the moment of truth:

I still loved her!! And, she was just as pretty as the first time I saw her.
Everything began to feel so real, and I started to get that warm happy feeling in my face. You know…the one you get when you realize, “I AM GETTING MARRIED IN THIS DRESS!”
“Aww Mom, can you believe it?”

Then it was onto the fun part…time to play model and “strike a pose” or two, or three.
Don’t just stand there, let’s get to it
Strike a pose, there’s nothing to it
First off, I had to check out my bum:

…and lastly, one of my favorite shots (giving a sneak peek of Mom’s dress)…
Mom and me:

I really didn’t want the appointment to end because I was having so much fun playing dress-up, but the boys (aka my brothers) arrived and spoiled the fun with their impatience. We left feeling pretty darn good and eager for August alterations.
I am still hoping to drop some more weight for the big day, and trying on the dress is pushing me the extra mile. Though I love the dress and think I look good in it, I know I can look better. I don’t want to have insecurities about arm flab or back fat on my wedding day, so I fully intend to step things up. I was very proud of myself for being able to fit in the smaller size and am super glad that I ordered it.
All in all, I am excited!! My dress fit, and I know I will rock it on our wedding day no matter what. Another plus: Mom tried on her dress next to mine, and it definitely doesn’t look too bridal (at least in my opinion) when she is standing by my side.
Did you freak out before your first fitting? Did you order a different size than recommended? Did you love your dress but still have insecurities?
