About Mrs. Locket

…move to the music…hey, hey, hey…

This is what comes to mind whenever I see the name of my pretty, precious, glamorous gown, the Vogue Royale (by Maggie Sottero, so I figured what better way to share my first dress fitting than with lyrical undertone?

Go with the flow
Go with the flow

This is pretty much what ran through my mind as I anxiously neared the dressing room… “go with the flow.” If she doesn’t fit it’s not the end of the world, right?

I was very worried because we ordered my dress months ago in a smaller size than was recommended, and when I tried her on, she was about six sizes too small. So I wasn’t really sure how she would look or if she would fit.

There she is, hanging pretty:

Alone in the dressing room, I couldn’t believe how quickly the butterflies filled my stomach. I was a mess of nerves, but soon enough I stepped into her and instantly felt an overwhelming wave of relief because I could tell that my hips fit!

With a proud grin on and an open back, I walked out of the fitting room and patiently (who am I kidding, excitedly) waited to be laced up by the sales consultant.

As I was getting laced up, the nerves kept on building (I hadn’t looked in a mirror yet), and I was dying to turn around and catch a glimpse of myself, especially since Mom started to get teary eyed.

And, the moment of truth:

Come On, Vogue… Let Your Body… : wedding ithaca wedding dress Locket3 locket3

I still loved her!! And, she was just as pretty as the first time I saw her.

Everything began to feel so real, and I started to get that warm happy feeling in my face. You know…the one you get when you realize, “I AM GETTING MARRIED IN THIS DRESS!”

“Aww Mom, can you believe it?”

Then it was onto the fun part…time to play model and “strike a pose” or two, or three.

Don’t just stand there, let’s get to it
Strike a pose, there’s nothing to it

First off, I had to check out my bum:

Ladies with an attitude

…then I gave the camera some ‘tude:

…and lastly, one of my favorite shots (giving a sneak peek of Mom’s dress)…

Mom and me:

I really didn’t want the appointment to end because I was having so much fun playing dress-up, but the boys (aka my brothers) arrived and spoiled the fun with their impatience. We left feeling pretty darn good and eager for August alterations.

I am still hoping to drop some more weight for the big day, and trying on the dress is pushing me the extra mile. Though I love the dress and think I look good in it, I know I can look better. I don’t want to have insecurities about arm flab or back fat on my wedding day, so I fully intend to step things up. I was very proud of myself for being able to fit in the smaller size and am super glad that I ordered it.

All in all, I am excited!! My dress fit, and I know I will rock it on our wedding day no matter what. Another plus: Mom tried on her dress next to mine, and it definitely doesn’t look too bridal (at least in my opinion) when she is standing by my side.

Did you freak out before your first fitting? Did you order a different size than recommended? Did you love your dress but still have insecurities?

Hey, Miss Locket? You look gorgeous in that dress!

Ps..I think every girl worries about this, but the woman who was helping us with my dress told me a secret about ‘back cleavage’ (my word). Put on the dress. Tie it as tight as you want. Have a BM or Mom stick two fingers in the back of the dress and go to the left with one and right with the other. Bam…no more back cleavage and no more back muffin top. Love it!! :)

You are going to look beautiful on your wedding day!!

I got the same advice as jillocb did. Worked like a charm!

You look gorgeous in the dress and dude, your mama looks great too! I know there was some concern over the light color and what other people might think, but with the jacket and slightly darker ivory: perfect!

Well done ladies!

This is my dress too! Can you tell me what color yours is? I tried on the diamond white and champagne over light gold but I ordered the Ivory. My dress hasn’t arrived yet so I haven’t seen the color, which is why I was wondering what yours was! Thanks!

You look beautiful in it, congrats! :)

@cheer02336: It’s the diamond white and champagne over light gold. How do you plan to bustle yours? I haven’t figured that out yet!
@jillocb: Thanks for the back-fat stuffing tips lol!

I thought it looked like the same color I had tried on! I loved it so I’m hoping I love the Ivory too and it’s not too light!

I have NO idea how I’d like to bustle the dress. I’ve found a couple of pictures that I like but I just decided to figure that out when the dress comes in and I go for my first fitting. I’ll let ya know though! :)

Very pretty! You’re going to look awesome!
I ordered my Maggie in a size smaller, too. And the sample was too small as well, so that the fabric bunched up at my hips. I’m working on losing weight and am anxious to see how she’ll fit once she’s in for real. (About another month or so.) What have you been doing to lose weight/tone up? Apparently it’s been working! :)

@missbiscuit: I was doing a lot of running and started lifting, but this past month or so has been so hectic I haven’t been getting to the gym quite as much. I also cut back on overindulging at meals. I initially dropped 20 lbs, but put a few back on by the time the fitting came around. I have been trying to work hard to get those last stubborn pounds off before the big day….only 50 more to go!
