Minimoon

August 7th, 2010 @ 1:15 pm by Mrs. Glasses

We might be on a budget but we’re still having a mini-moon! We are hopping across the pond (as in the Sea of Japan) to an exotic locale with awesome food and sights.

We are heading to Bangkok! Although it’s an overnight flight for us I’m calling it a minimoon because we’ll be away for 4 days. We are hoping to see all of the major sightseeing points in the city and spend a night on the island of Koh Samet, which is the closest “tropical” island to Bangkok. Wahoo! White, sandy beaches and crystal clear waters, here we come!

Of course, we’re still budget savvy. Money spent before the wedding equals less money for the wedding… it makes sense, right? So we’re staying in a hostel. I’m sure the wedding world has recoiled in horror at the thought of staying in a hostel on one’s honeymoon but Mr. Glasses and I have been living together for almost 2 years and well, we’re not exactly knocking boots every night these days (TMI, TMI!). I’ve been in hostels all over the world and I have a knack for finding nice ones. Perhaps it won’t be the most romantic of honeymoons but it’ll definitely be exciting and adventurous. Mr. G and I are ready for new adventures in our marriage!

Where are you heading for your minimoon? Are you doing something unconventional?

Is that really a mini moon? How long do you want your real honeymoon to last?

May I recommend this cosy little place in BK? http://www.phranakorn-nornlen.com Though not a hostel, it is reasonably priced, close to the major sights and a tranquil haven in chaotic BK. Definitely a gem!

oooh Bangkok! FUN!!! And I think staying in hostel is a really good way to save. You’re only going there to rest your head really. We’re thinking of making a quickie trip to Bali while we’re on this side of the planet=)

@LisaM: For an international destination I think 4 days is pretty short! I wish we could stay at least a week and really discover Thailand. Weare in Bangkok for exactly 1.5 days!

@Francesca: Thank you for the reccomendation. We’ve already booked our hostel though; we are staying in the Silom area.

@Miss Barrettes: We totally tried to make Bali happen but it was over $1,000 pp so too rich for our blood. I have had that mentality since I’ve been here though…”Well, quick trip to Korea while I’m on this side… Shanghai why not when will I have this chance again?” ;P

Ko Samet is wonderful! What a great mini-moon. If you are going to a hostel - most of which I thought were awesome- you may want to bring a mosquito net as alot of the hostels don’t supply them.

Ah. . . those pictures just make me want to jump up and join you there (though that might be awkward, what with it being your honeymoon and all).

Bangkok sounds great, and hostels are so budget friendly, it will leave room in your budget to do more fun things while your there! :)
