Mrs. Husky's Picture
Mrs. Husky, Denver Age and Occupation: 26, Systems Administrator Fiance's Age and Occupation: 32, Mechanical Engineer, recently laid off Engagement Date: August 14, 2009 Wedding Date: October 2010 Venue: Rancho San Carlos About Me: I am planning a quirky-crafty wedding with my recently out-of-work fiancé for a (fingers crossed!) warm October afternoon. We are two self-professed nerds with an affinity for all things outdoors---be it rain, snow or shine. Recently relocated from the drizzly Northwest, we're enjoying the many sun-soaked days in the mile high city. Our day will be filled with both of our large families and friends, a self-served Cajun feast, and a Zydeco-style jazz band rocking beneath the beams of a historic red barn.
About Mrs. Husky

Scout’s Motto

August 8th, 2010 @ 11:35 am by Mrs. Husky

Of the many things I’ve learned from my stepfather, the most useful has been preparedness. There is always a blanket and first aid kit in my trunk. I always have hand sanitizer and tissues in my purse, and have often found myself in need of the items I would have least expected. So when I started hearing about the wedding preparedness kits, I decided to make one for Mr. Husky as a small token of my paranoia affection. And so long as I was at it, I decided to make one for myself as well:

No joke, Dollar Tree became my very best friend. In case you are considering a DIY emergency kit, here is what I included in mine:

  • Miniature Lint Roller
  • Hand lotion
  • Toothbrush & paste
  • Q-tips
  • Cotton Balls
  • Individually Wrapped Baby Wipes
  • Sewing Kit
  • Sunscreen
  • Razor
  • Tissues
  • Emergen-C (what? The rehearsal dinner might get crazy…)
  • Band-Aids & antibacterial wipes
  • Tylenol
  • Safety Pins
  • Super Glue
  • Nail Clippers & Files

I also included a Happy Anniversary card in Mr. Husky’s kit - now I just have to hope he has the opportunity to open it!

Are you packing an emergency kit? What items are you including?

I am now! That is an awesome kit. FI is usually the one who is super prepared (he’s an eagle scout!) so I wouldn’t be surprised if he made me one…

I used a WB post to help me create an emergency kit, which I don’t believe I used..oh except for those amazing sponges that get deodorant off of things. You should put one of those in your kit or in one for your BMs -that’s who used mine. You can get them at The Container Store. And I used Hollywood tape to tape the lace on my dress over my overflowing boobs -a little pre-wedding weight gain. The tape didn’t damage the delicate lace at all! I did leave some of the things in the kit, so when I went on my honeymoon, I had those little travel items packed. I feel like I either wanted to or actually did make a kit for my husband & his GMs. Jeez -it’s only been a year and I can hardly remember a thing! Those days before the wedding were kind of a blur.

Good plan- don’t forget hair ties, hairspray, and safety pins like I did! We were looking under tables and found safety pins on the floor, that saved our lives ;) I remembered to bring so many other things that we never used though.

The deodorant wipes are a great suggestion! Mexican sun + deep blue BM dresses = probable deodorant emergencies

I’ll also be packing my FI a little travel shot of whiskey (his fave) for before the wedding. Ha :)

Good list! I would add tampons or pads (you never know someone in your bridal party might forget about their time of the month), floss, blotting powder / blotting sheets, candy or protein/granola bar in case anyone gets hypoglycemic, paper bag in case anyone starts hyperventilating, ziploc bags?, tweezers, eye drops including those for contacts, and some cash

I planned to make one for myself, but doing one for Mr. Husky was really smart! I’ll have to do this too! :)

Guys might need the static guard for their pant legs.

I love it! Yes, as a Girl Guide, I definitely had one of these in mind myself. Though I think I will also include a powerbar/gel (energy boost!) and moleskin, it stays way better on burgeoning blisters.

TUMS! Be sure to include these for hungry boys whose eyes are too big for their stomachs… i have been to 5 weddings this summer and the only thing i have ever usedfrom my just in case stash was the tums!

Husky, you’re so smart! My guy never has any of the little stuff he ends up needing. Mini lint roller? Like any of our groomsman are gonna remember that! Totally using your list and making a Man kit.

I have an emergency kit that I always take to weddings with me, so I will just have to check it over before my wedding. It always seems to come in hand for the big day, especially the scissors!

@eileen marie: I’m not familiar - where did you get them? I have some hollywood tape for my dress too :) - and I’m totally envious that your pre-wedding weight goes to “overflowing boobs” - mine likes the belly area.

@lemondrop: I’ve got the hair ties and spray in my “beauty kit” (what? I like kits! :) ), but I can never have enough safety pins. Just ask Mrs. Cookie! (http://www.weddingbee.com/2009/02/12/wedding-dress-cleaning/)

@theweddinglane: great suggestions!

@periwinkle: good point!

@ambellina13: never would have occurred to me, but excellent suggestion!

@emma5w: was just thinking about those, after Miss Sand Dollar’s post!

@MsJeep23: I’m way too obsessed with the dollar store - I love to come home and show Mr. Husky the 23 items I got for only $23! It was even better when we lived in Oregon - no sales tax, so $23 was truly $23!

@amanda2011: I’m pretty sure there is a little pair of scissors in the sewing kit, but I think I’m going to have to double check!

I’m definitely going to need to create myself an emergency kit and I love the idea of a man kit.
