About Ms Seahorse

Milestones

August 8th, 2010 @ 1:15 pm by Ms Seahorse

Yes, some people wait until they have everything all together to tell you about it. “Look, my invitations are done! Here are the pictures I took while logging the entire experience over the past four months carefully organized and showing you the whole process! I am so organized and nice and my invitations are pretty!”

I have concluded that am not one of those people. I am way to excited about each little step to hold off, especially since by the time things are done I am damn sick of them. I sent the bulk of our invitations yesterday, and as I was standing in line I was remembering other peoples’ posts saying things like, “I was sad to see them go! Goodbye invitations, I’ll miss you!”

Guys, I was like, “Invitations, you sure are pretty, but GO AWAY!”

Anyway, the whole point of this was just to say that I don’t have much to say right now, no huge posts with our completed guest list or beautiful favors, but I do have a couple of milestones:

  1. We applied for our marriage license! So far we just have a little piece of paper telling us when we can pick it up - there’s a three day waiting period in MA - but we filled it all out, we took our oath, and we wrote our new last names on it! We’re doing this whole marriage thing, for serious!
  2. I got my muslin suit in the mail! OMG. I was going to write more about it later but I’m too excited. FYI, this is not the color it will actually be, nor will you be able to see my underwear through it, so don’t get too excited. Just tell me how potentially awesome it is, please.

Vest OMG!

Milestones : wedding boston dress 21 2

Thumbs up for pants!

Milestones : wedding boston dress 31 3

The whole deal, in muslin!

It doesn’t fit quite right, but we’re working on it! Hooray!

Milestones : wedding boston dress 4 4

And you guys? Thanks again for supporting this guy. I love your comments, even if I don’t always respond, and you guys make all the writing so, so worth doing.

If you haven’t said hi before, say hi! Tell me who you are! Tell me what you like. And then tell me what you’re excited about this weekend, or what your recent milestones are!

The suit is potentially very awesome - It looks good already. Your post reminds me that we really need to start looking into invitations…I don’t think I can procrastinate this for much longer!

I’m in Boston as well — so, hey neighbor!

My FH and I have already done the marriage license thing once. (We considered getting married this summer at city hall, later decided to put it off until next year and have a “real” wedding). We were told to say the oath in unison, and we did pretty well until I cracked up laughing in the middle of it. We just sounded so ridiculous!

Your suit is going to look amazing! I am loving reading your blog and wish you all the best!

Thanks for all your comments, everyone! Ah, @rachaelrobin, I think we put off our invites until the last minute we should have - possibly longer. Our dress consultant’s daughter is getting married the same day we are, and at our fitting we asked if she’d sent her invites… our consultant was like, “Uh, yeah. Ages ago!” Oops.

The suit’s looking good! I’m glad you decided to go with the custom made route; I think it’ll turn out great. :)

I thought you were wearing a “traditional” wedding dress. (?) Did I miss a post -what is the suit for? I think with a few darts in the vest, it’ll look great! (I was kinda like wth until I realized it was a muslin mock-up.)

@sboston06: Aww, I’m jealous. We have 1 yes and three nos… so -2 guests? Okay, one guest. Exciting!

@eileen marie: I am wearing a dress for the ceremony and suit for the reception!

I’ve never said hi before, so hi! I’ve loved reading your progress in wedding planning. As much as I read wedding blogs and watch wedding shows (My Fair Wedding is on in the background, must confess) what I love about Weddingbee is that it’s personal and you can really make a connection with the stories of other brides going through the same things I am! I’m so excited to see how your wedding is going to turn out!!!

I’ve got nothing deep to offer over here, but I wanted to say hi! This weekend I got excited about DIYing a bunch of stuff for the wedding, made a prototype decoration, and realized I had practiced premature crafting. So now I’m frustrating my fiance because I’m stomping around the house pouting because I want to make stuff but can’t figure out how we’ll use it! Your weekend looks much more productive frankly. ;)

Love the suit!! Can’t wait to see it in all it’s completed glory.
Also - I mailed out our invitations last Thursday. I was not sad to see them go! It was a big sigh of relief to push them across the counter to the post office worker!

Actually, you are supposed to send out your invitations 6-8 weeks in advance. So you are actually a tiny bit early, and your consultant’s daughter is way, way early!

@HQB: Whew, we’re actually five weeks away and sent them last week… so right under the wire! yay us!

@Encore: that was a problem I had at the beginning but now that we’re only 5 weeks away we are in full crafting mode!

I love reading your posts Seahorse! You always have such interesting things to say and questions to ask. I think I will be like you with respect to the invites - “good-bye invites! I am SO glad you are done and gone!” - but that is quite a ways off for me. I also think your suit looks good!

My recent milestones - bought my dress a few weeks ago! We also decided on our photographer, although we still have to work out the details before we sign a contract. Plus, I designed and ordered my STDs from Vistaprint the other day! I have been doing pretty good for milestones lately!

@dance: Ooooh those ARE good milestones! You’ll have to let me know what you think of the vistaprint stuff… I use them for my business cards and am now considering them for our thank you cards.

@Miss Barrettes & @Mrs. Trail Mix: thanks :)

Hi Seahorse! I’m a wedding planner for a living and finally planning my own wedding for 11/5/10! I’m excited this weekend because my invitations went out on Thursday and I ALREADY have 2 response cards in my hands! I’m also excited because my fiance and I leave to Texas on a vacation for his grandma’s 80th birthday on Tuesday! Whoo Hoo for traveling! :)

I love love LOVE reading your posts. They make me smile. I’m happy your invites went out too and your suit is so awesome!
