Mrs. Barrettes, Tumon, Guam/Napa, CA Age and Occupation: 29, Dancer Fiance's Age and Occupation: 31, Licensed Building Contractor Engagement Date: November 16, 2008 Wedding Date: October 2010 Venue: V. Sattui Winery About Me: I'm an East Coast girl, living on a tiny little island in the Pacific, twirling, leaping, and shimmy-ing my way through life, and now, wedding planning! I'm equal parts nerdy and cool... okay, mostly nerdy. I love satin bows, red lipstick, black & white graphic anything, the shine of sequins and the sound of a champagne "pop". My favorite books are The Portrait of a Lady, by Henry James, and Tender is the Night, by F. Scott Fitzgerald. I can also conjure a pretty good Patronus Charm. I started my appreciation for good red wine while traveling on the high seas, and it's only fitting that my passion for wine drinking led me to my Napa-bred honey. We bonded over bottles of Cabernet on my oceanfront porch and haven't looked back since. We're sealing the deal at a winery in the Napa Valley on a 'perfect ten' of a day!

Winter Honeymoon

August 9th, 2010 @ 2:11 pm by Mrs. Barrettes

Winter Honeymoon : wedding guam honeymoon Montana

For our honeymoon we decided that we want to go somewhere cold. Yes, cold. Snowy, frozen-eared, runny-nose cold. We live in Guam where it is 86 and sunny every day, so the thought of going somewhere else tropical isn’t all that appealing. I want to drink hot toddies and wear mittens and watch my new hubby carve it up on the slopes.

Mr. Barette’s family has a home in Lake Tahoe, so we’re thinking that’s the perfect spot. Since mid-October could be a hit or miss with snow…we’re thinking of doing a month-long road trip around the US!

Both Ryan and I are luckily well traveled, with visits to Europe, Asia, South America and NZ/Australia, but I’ve never even seen most of my own country! He’s never been to Niagara Falls, and I’m itching to see Mount Rushmore. In our perfect little minds, we imagine renting a Winnebago, throwing Puppy in the glove compartment (he’s pretty small), and hitting the road! We’d start in Napa, make a circle around the country, and end up in Tahoe in November!

What’s your favorite “must see” in the U.S.A.?

You must go up to northern Minnesota! It’s amazing up there at any time of year. Check out these pictures (courtesy of my wedding photographer/brother!): http://www.flickr.com/photos/charcoalheather/sets/72157604327318918/

My must see is New England in the fall. I’m a sucker for the East Coast…LOVE IT, but sadly, have never able to get back during the fall weather…which is my absolute favorite time of the year.

Watts Tower in LA is pretty cool http://www.wattstowers.us/
The House on the Rock in WI is amazing too

If you plan it right you’ll be on the east coast at the right time to see the colors change. It’s breathtaking and romantic!

Sounds great to me! I would love to be able to do a long road trip. You should definitely try to make it to New England-Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine. They are gorgeous in Fall. By the way, have you ever told us what you do in Guam and how you ended up there? I am so curious!

Downtown Denver, Colorado has a fantastic nightlife and restaurant scene. There are SO MANY fantastic restaurants.

Southern Utah is one of the most unique and beautiful places I’ve ever gone. Moab especially is beautiful during any season. We were at Arches National Park over New Years and the whole area was covered in snow. The contrast of the red rock and the white snow was beautiful and if there isn’t snow it’s still breathtaking. If you are looking for guaranteed snow Park City the place to go. The old center of town is really cute and the ski resort wonderful.

Great Arizona destinations are Sedona and the Grand Canyon.

Check out roadsideamerica.com. The website has a list of all kinds of roadside attractions and places to see. My sister and I did a trip from St. Louis to Yuma, Arizona and used it. We had trouble with some of the places, but most were really simple to find. It was nice because we’d take breaks at the places we decided on going.

I loved Mount Rushmore. My husband and I did a two-week Western States roadtrip a few years ago. If you make it out to western South Dakota you also need to see Crazy Horse and the Badlands.

Definitely check out Northern Michigan…if you want snow, there’s a good chance it’ll be here.

Tour Mackinaw Island, Traverse City, and Petoskey!

I love traveling in the Winter. Less crowds and the snow really changes the scenery. My must see for you is the Grand Tetons and Jackson Hole, WY. One of the most gorgeous places I’ve ever been and I, too, am well traveled. Can’t wait to hear where you decide to go!
