Because I can be a bit of a control freak, I thought it would be nice if I could “stage” an example of how our engagement shoot setup would look, that way I could make changes if necessary. Are you ready to see?

Our white shag rug that we had to put away when we got the dogs—they cause enough of a mess without eating all of that fluff!

Newly acquired IKEA pillows and picnic basket I won from eBay, Mr. Socks’ beloved acoustic, and a bottle of local wine.

Mr. Socks had an audience member! We had a bit of a hard time finding Wrigley, though…

And even after I set all of this up, it still wasn’t enough for me… I had to practice a DIY bouquet that I wanted to use for the shoot! Mr. Socks and I went to Produce Junction where we found some super cheap flowers, and I spent about 45 minutes putting together a bouquet out of light pink roses, purple mini calla lilies, purple pom mums, and some fuzzy things I have no name for:

I wrapped the bouquet in floral wire, floral tape, and some canvas material I had for another project… not too shabby, huh? Overall, the bouquet turned out well, but I learned a few things that I’ll have to take into consideration for the real bouquet for our photo shoot:

  1. Do the bouquet on Thursday, not Friday (the day of the shoot). It took more time than I thought it would and it was mostly from de-leaving and de-thorning the roses. In order to save my sanity on Friday between work, my hair and makeup appointment, and the photo shoot.
  2. Peel the outer petals off of the roses. They were a bit wilty and a little too loose at first (not pictured) and it wasn’t until Momma Socks came over for dinner that she told me to take off the outer petals… it helped tremendously! What would I do without Momma Socks?
  3. Be very delicate with the calla lily stems. I kept trying to position them just right, (which I never did do) and they ended up getting a little distressed. Next time I’ll be more careful with them!

I think everything is coming together well and I can’t wait to put it all to action at our engagement shoot! There has been a change in location though—we have to find another winery to have it at since Laurita let me know that there’s a wedding on Friday evening! Bummer, but I’m sure we’ll be able to find another winery with just as beautiful of views!

Did you prepare for your engagement shoot? Do you have any tips for DIY bouquets I could use for our photo shoot?

Smart idea to figure this all out before- we winged (wung?) our shoot. And you dog! That picture where he disappears into the rug! Too cute!!

You’re so funny. We prepared a bit, but not as much as you! We were shooting at multiple locations around the city, so most of our preparing was researching different “must have” spots.
I love how Wrigley looks like he’s in doggie heaven.

We’re doing some of our engagement shots this weekend and my wedding is in October too, so all hail procrastenators! I, too, have been mad prepping for our shots. We’re making pasta in a commercial kitchen. Hope they turn out well!

@Miss Locket: @heather25: Yes, I’ll be doing my own bouquet! I’ll order my flowers from fiftyflowers.com so hopefully the roses will look a little healthier through them!

How far are you willing to travel for a winery shoot? The micro-winery where I work is in Avondale, PA. If you’re looking for something with more land, there’s Chadds Ford. Is liking the wine a prerequisite for it hosting your e-session?

I’m starting to plan our e-session in the fall. Never too early is my motto.

(The photo of Wrigley on the rug is hysterical. And I’m sorry for being such a dork, but we couldn’t live without Produce Junction in the summertime. No one else carries decent okra.)

I got my hair done & went shopping for a sweater! My only regret is I got my hair done up in all curls while I usually only wear my hair straight & we used one of these pictures as our Save the Date so it’s kind of weird.. but I love them so I don’t really care!
