Sattui Winery About Me: I'm an East Coast girl, living on a tiny little island in the Pacific, twirling, leaping, and shimmy-ing my way through life, and now, wedding planning! I'm equal parts nerdy and cool... okay, mostly nerdy. I love satin bows, red lipstick, black & white graphic anything, the shine of sequins and the sound of a champagne "pop". My favorite books are The Portrait of a Lady, by Henry James, and Tender is the Night, by F. Scott Fitzgerald. I can also conjure a pretty good Patronus Charm. I started my appreciation for good red wine while traveling on the high seas, and it's only fitting that my passion for wine drinking led me to my Napa-bred honey. We bonded over bottles of Cabernet on my oceanfront porch and haven't looked back since. We're sealing the deal at a winery in the Napa Valley on a 'perfect ten' of a day!

The Creative Process

August 10th, 2010 @ 5:20 pm by Mrs. Barrettes

I finally got the monograms that I ordered on Etsy. Totally cute, but not exactly what I was looking for. However, they did inspire me to try to create some on my own. The only problem with that is that I have become slightly neurotic about it. Arranging and rearranging all the elements to create the perfect piece has now taken up two whole days. Like I think someone will actually look at it and think, “Wow, Barrettes should have moved that ’B’ a 1/4 millimeter to the right.”

When someone else creates something for you, you just accept it, love it or hate it. But when creating it yourself, it’s hard to accept it unless its perfect…but what is perfect?! Ahhhh! So anyway, I took a break from looking at them for a few days.

This is one of the monograms I had made on Etsy. I added the “Save the Date” and “Napa Valley, CA.”

You may be wondering, “What are those mushroom looking things?” Those my friends, are Latte Stones. Lah-tee. Not to be confused with the yummy caffinated goodness. While we are having a winery wedding, I still wanted to incorporate some Guam-ness in there. The Latte Stone is a national symbol of Guam, as the ancient Chamorros built their houses on top of the stones to prevent the structure from sinking into the sand. Presently, they symbolize foundation and strength. *end Guam History lesson*

This is the first one I made myself. It went through tons of changes. I kept changing the spacing, font, and the sizes obsessively. In the end I went with a more romantic font and added a heart. The final monogram came out beautifully!

Did you use a monogram throughout your theme? What kinds of things did you stamp it on?

We didn’t use one - but yours looks beautiful! (and much better than the Etsy one, if you don’t mind me saying so)

I think your monogram turned out great! We don’t have one but I have seen monograms used on everything — programs, invites, labels, water bottles, etc.

I made 2 monograms and loved them SO much I put them on everything. The guys at the wedding teased me that I had “branded” our wedding.
We put the logos on: water bottle labels, guest towels for the bathroom, tissue boxes, cigar bands, candy, matchbooks, coasters, cocktail napkins, favor tags and the invites!

I’m so sad I can’t use it anymore!

I LOVE your monogram. I have a special sweet spot for ‘hearts’ in designs. I just can’t design without them! Such a classic symbol of love!

We had one that I made. We also got it made into a rubber stamp from http://www.simonstamp.com. We put it on our STDs, favor tags, cocktail napkins for the cocktail hour, coasters for the reception, and on the envelope in the OOT bags that housed all the directions/things-to-do/paperwork. Ours was just two overlapping circles (like a ven diagram) with a A in one and a J in the other and a plus sign in the overlapping part.

I love monograms….no we haven’t used them yet, but with time left they could still make an appearance on our big day!

I used the free monogram creator on wedding chicks. I chose the hummingbirds in hot pink and purple - love it and nothing beats free!!

Very nice! We created our own monogram as well and it was days of agonizing and moving stuff just ever so slightly to the left! We used them on the favour boxes and wedding invites. We also used them on the guestbook “Wish And Advice” cards.
