Mrs. Locket's Picture
Mrs. Locket, Ithaca, NY Age and Occupation: 25, Research Technician Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28, former Banker hoping to become an Officer of the Law Engagement Date: June 15, 2009 Wedding Date: September 2010 Venue: Heron Hill Winery About Me: I am a little bit of everything all rolled into one: A girly gal with rough edges---I love to get dolled up just as much as I enjoy throwing on some sneaks to toss a ball with Mr. Locket. My love for crafting and creating is quite apparent and I've been referred to as a Wonder Woman/Martha Stewart/Stepford Wife hybrid (yup, I'll take that as a compliment). I adore sewing, photography, sculpture, good eats (mmm tapas), baking, snugging and oh, pretty much everything in between (there's not much I dislike). I am super excited to be planning our vineyard wedding and couldn't be happier to be marrying Mr. Locket. We are a quirky, fun-loving couple residing in our college town with our two pups Maple and Molly. We love to go on hikes, visit our local dog park and to bask in the beauty of many of the local falls and gorges. We are an indecisive pair, but together we somehow manage to make up our minds (it's the easy stuff that's tricky).

Mr. Locket’s rINgDECISION…

Mine and Mr. Lockets’ rings:

…as you may have guessed, Mr. Locket and I suffer from a serious case of indecision, which is fine and all, but sometimes it gets to be a little much. Case in point, Mr. Locket’s wedding band search.

I know what you are probably thinking…wait, didn’t the Lockets already figure out their wedding bands? And, you would be right in thinking so. But of course indecision snuck in, and after a couple of weeks of having his two bands in his possession, he began to question his choices (pictured above).

At that point he saw something else, a two-toned band that caught his eye, and decided to have it ordered in his size to try out. But after a quick look at it on his finger, he no longer liked it.

Sorry two-toned it’s not going to work out:

After deciding he didn’t like this option, he went back to something that had initially caught his eye in December: this brushed white gold band.

But, of course once it came in and he slipped it on, he wasn’t sure. He thought that something about the thickness seemed off and though he liked it very much, he just didn’t know that it was the right ring for him anymore. In that last visit (after having ordered four rings already), he came across another ring, a ring that he had not seen before.

Something similar to this unique mother of pearl band:

The only difference in the one he likes is that there are two thin stripes of mother of pearl surrounded by the stainless steel. I haven’t been able to find an exact photo of the ring yet because it’s so new.

It is a lovely band, but his new choice really has me worried. Why? Well, mother of pearl inlay isn’t the most sturdy of ring options, and over time it could crack and break. It isn’t necessarily something that screams longevity, but Mr. Locket loves it, so what am I to do? He made a good point that he could purchase multiples of the same band, that way in case one does break he would have one to replace it (which wouldn’t be a huge deal cost wise; we could get five for the price of the other bands).

What do you think? Would you sacrifice longevity for looks?

Great idea for a blog post, I think this topic often gets overlooked but it’s definitely part of the whole scheme and of course, shouldn’t be ignored. Thanks for the insight! Keep up the great work here :)

I love the mother of pearl ring!!! My FI found a tungsten ring with a river rock inlay that he adores and the rock is one piece instead of several smaller pieces:

This site has some amazing bands!!

hope this helps!!

Hmm…I would steer him toward something that had more life in it. Especially since he is so indecisive–he still might find something that he likes more.

@Moody: Wow that’s a pretty awesome looking ring!
@sapphirebride: I would steer him another way, but this is the first time he actually really liked the ring and wasn’t just settling. It figures though!

My FI has a mother of pearl inlay ring for his “engagement ring” (He wanted it lol). It’s in fine fine shape still. Granted, he works in ticketing and not heavey labor, and for camping events he changes it out for a plain white gold band… but he likes it lots and I love the look.
