Mrs. Argyle, St. Louis Age and Occupation: 24, Project Coordinator Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Pilot Engagement Date: February 15, 2009 Wedding Date: September 2010 Venue: Jewel Box in Forest Park and Windows on Washington About Me: I'm a true Midwestern girl (born and raised), lover of red wine, reality TV and the entire J.Crew catalog. I love to dance regardless of who is watching, and enjoy a good laugh with my girls. I have a soft spot in my heart for planet Earth, my two dogs and my fiance. Fall is my favorite season (which is why we are marrying in September), but I love a warm summer day and the Colorado mountains in the winter. We are planning a modern soiree downtown, with lots of bold colors, and fun, eco-friendly elements.

Paper Gangsta: The RSVP

August 10th, 2010 @ 11:48 am by Mrs. Argyle

Postcards were the only option we wanted. For one, postage is cheaper (although, we ended up buying regular stamps), and there were no envelopes needed (which equals less paper waste).

Neither of us wanted the traditional “Accepts with pleasure” or “Declines with regret” anywhere on that RSVP. I managed to stumble upon some great wording a while back, and it stuck with us since the very first time I mocked up an invitation.

For the back, we kept it simple: red with white text, and only our address.

When it came time to buy stamps, I wasn’t feeling the postcard polar bear stamp (sorry USPS), nor did I want to use the wedding bands. Luckily the USPS had some fun and vibrant 44 cent stamps available for purchase. In the form of the “Sunday Funnies”. Yes, that’s right. All of our RSVP postcards are stamped with one of the “Sunday Funnies” stamps. Seriously could not have been a more fun or perfect stamp. And, I (Mr. A included) hope our guests get a little chuckle out of it.

I don’t know about you, but I loved the funnies growing up.

What stamps did you opt for? Something fun, traditional, vintage?

The Sunday Funnies stamps weren’t out yet the last time I went to the post office, and I was supposed to go back to get them for our thank you notes but forgot. Thanks for the reminder! We just finished our animal rescue stamps so this is perfect timing. For our RSVP cards we used either the wedding bands or the purple love flowers.

We just did the Forever stamps with the Liberty Bell since that’s what we have a ton of around the house anyway. It just so happened that they actually looked pretty nice on our response envelopes, and of course “Forever” is a pretty nice thing to have on a wedding item; if they’d clashed terribly I *might* have thought harder about other options.

We did coordinating Zazzle stamps after they had a big sale where they came out to face value. I haven’t seen the funnies stamps before–cute!

Those stamps are really cute and they go with your RSVPs much better than the polar bear.

Love the verbiage you use on the responses. I might be borrowing you language when the time comes since I’ve been looking for something a bit more interesting than “Accepts” and “Declines.” Thanks for the inspiration!

great detail with the comic strip stamps! I just opted for king and queen love stamps for the RSVP and the wedding cake stamps for the outside- and conveniently they match our colors. (But I had to go to 2 post offices to get enough)

@crayon78: Glad I could help!

@Miss Locket: Nothing wrong with that!

@KayMeiBee: Sure thing! Happy I could offer some inspiration!

@Miss Thimble: I actually really like the king and queen stamps.

Those are fantastic! I wish that the post office would stop raising the cost of stamps. I found some great black & white Katherine Hepburn stamps that goes great with the theme of our wedding. Unfortunately by next year I’m sure they’ll be going up in price a couple of cents and I don’t want to have to tack on a couple of 1 cent stamps to make up the difference.

I got some great penguin bride and groom Zazzle stamps http://www.zazzle.com/bride_and_groom_penguin_postage_stamps-172651942274607696 before I found out that our invitations were going to cost .61. So I am using the Zazzle stamps for the RSVP and the tired wedding cake stamp that USPS offers for .61. I honestly would have bought a second stamp to put next to the Zazzle stamp if the .17 stamp from USPS weren’t so darn ugly.
