About Mrs. Sand Dollar

Oh, Sandy!

August 11th, 2010 @ 12:35 pm by Mrs. Sand Dollar

Thumbing through one of my mom’s more recent James Avery catalogs, I found what could potentially be the best accessory I could possess on my wedding day.

Oh, Sandy! : wedding houston jewelry Sanddol sanddol

(source)

Guys, I need this pendant! It would be my wedding-day Weddingbee shout out! How can I pass this by? Plus, with the whole coastal scene and vibe (loose, but it’ll be there) it would be perfect.

It would be way more chic than my original idea of a chunky turquoise necklace. Plus, I could forever commemorate my days as Miss Sand Dollar. At 100 buckaroos, it does give me a little pause. I wouldn’t necessarily consider this a “wedding” purchase, since I’ll be wearing it with pride regularly. It’s totally my style. But we’re really in a financial crunch this summer, and I don’t know if I can justify such a frivolous purchase. I’ve tried to cajole Mr. SD into buying it as my wedding present, but then he got all excited about me buying him a pistol for his, and that whole budget idea flew out the window. That boy has expensive taste. And about 25 guns already anyway, why does he need another one? But I digress. I’m sure I’ll break down and buy this for myself, as I really think it’s the perfect balance of chic-meets-beach.

Were you surprised at a source for one of your wedding purchases? What jumped out at you out of nowhere?

Oh I LOVE it! It is so perfect and would be a great accessory to add for your big day! Yes, that is a lot of money…BUT if you wear it after the wedding it would be worth it (IMO).

I bet you can find something similar on Etsy!! I will be having little locket details, but was already planning on it pre-beedom!

I ended up spending over $60 on a necklace on etsy that I wasn’t prepared to spend. But it was too perfect to pass up.

I love James Avery, but it really isn’t cheap! I bet you could find something similar online that didn’t break the budget.

I have 2 charms that I’m incorporating into my day, one with my sorority letters and one with his school’s initials (the closest thing he has to frat letter.) I’ll be sewing them to the ends of the ribbon on my bouquet. At the end of the day I’ll just snip them off. But I’m glad to feature something that is so “us”!

I agree with the etsy comment - just did a search there, and it found a ton of them. But I also think there’s something to be said for spending some coin on a quality jewelry item, particularly if you plan to wear it for many years to come. Good luck!

If you have to have it- just do it! Plus if you’re going to wear it all the time it’s totally worth it!

Woah. Pause. This is a simple silver charm in the shape of a sand dollar. I have a silver charm bracelet and I get my charms for like, less than $10. Have you tried Etsy for something similar? There have to be a million other places to get basically the same thing.

I actually just got a James Avery sand dollar charm as an anniversary gift–would a smaller version do? I think they come in 1/2 inch and 3/4 inch sizes, for considerably less. Even though it’s on my charm bracelet, the 3/4 inch size would make for a nice, subtle pendant, I think.

I googled sand dollar charm, went to the shopping page, and had it list the charms from lowest to highest price. The cheapest one was $1.26, but it does look cheap. However, there is a sterling silver one for $3.49. It’s worth checking into and is even cheaper than Etsy if you can put it on a chain yourself. What a fun idea!

Thanks so much everyone! Mama SD went out and bought it for me as a surprise, she’s a huge James Avery fan. Basically, mama SD kicks major butt and loves me times a million.
