Sattui Winery About Me: I'm an East Coast girl, living on a tiny little island in the Pacific, twirling, leaping, and shimmy-ing my way through life, and now, wedding planning! I'm equal parts nerdy and cool... okay, mostly nerdy. I love satin bows, red lipstick, black & white graphic anything, the shine of sequins and the sound of a champagne "pop". My favorite books are The Portrait of a Lady, by Henry James, and Tender is the Night, by F. Scott Fitzgerald. I can also conjure a pretty good Patronus Charm. I started my appreciation for good red wine while traveling on the high seas, and it's only fitting that my passion for wine drinking led me to my Napa-bred honey. We bonded over bottles of Cabernet on my oceanfront porch and haven't looked back since. We're sealing the deal at a winery in the Napa Valley on a 'perfect ten' of a day!

Dressing My Bridesmaids

August 11th, 2010 @ 1:50 pm by Mrs. Barrettes

Staying true to my process of getting obsessed with one detail, then putting it off when I get bored of it, I’ve started hunting for bridesmaids dresses.

Can’t they all just wear this beauty by Fendi and call it a day? No? OK, moving on. Originally I thought about putting the ladies in the same dress. Then, same dress, different necklines. Now they may all be wearing totally different dresses, in hues of our color scheme:

I’m still up in the air about it. While it would be interesting to look at, perhaps one uniform color would look more crisp. The groomsman will likely be wearing a dark charcoal grey color, leaving the ladies to the violet. But then it looks like everyone else’s wedding party, where the ladies are wearing the same color purple. I’ve seen it already. I want something different. If I was super stylish we could just do this:

Is anyone else having totally different dresses? How are you keeping them cohesive without being too matchy?

I decided that the girls will all wear a dress to match one of our wedding colors….Purple (MOH), Green, Gun Metal, Turquoise

We are doing same color, but all different styles/fabrics.

I haven’t gotten to this road yet but I’m thinking of doing all the same color but different styles.

We are doing diff dresses, but in the same color from the same collection…nothing too crazy, but they will be different lengths.

I’m doing the same dress for all the ladies and told them to accessorize as they see fit. I’m hoping that way we’ll avoid matchy-matchy, while still having a cohesive look.

I am - my girls are all wearing David’s Bridal Lapis with long hemlines. I have two girls out of state, so I took the three that are here together to try on dresses. It was helpful for me (being very visual) to see them stand next to one another and look at how the dresses appeared. An example is that DB has a few dresses that are ruched to one side - well, not all of them go the same direction. Two girls came out with two different dresses and it looked bizarre.

As it turned out, the MOH’s (2) are in strapless Style and the BM (3) are in straps.

My girls are also different body types and sizes, so I wanted everyone to be able to choose something that flattered them.

I started going the matching dress route but changed my mind. My girls are all very different - sizes, shapes, heights, and tastes!

So instead they are going to choose a dress in grey. I picked up a bunch of fabric samples and I’ll send them all a swatch card so they have a feel for the pallet I’m going for. But other than that I’m letting them run free! It’s a bit scary but once I realized that my friends have great taste, and that I want them to be comfortable, look gorgeous and have fun on our wedding day, I stopped worrying about it. I think the more mis-matched the dresses are, the better it will look!

I think the trend these days is to have the same color, different shape of dress, so I’m going super traditional and having everyone wear the same dress. And they look fantastic! Also, think about a dress that will complement your dress. If your dress is a bit more simple, perhaps a more ornate bridesmaid dress is what you need. Or if yours has a lot of details, maybe your bridesmaids need to be in more simple dresses.
Anyway, I’m sure they will look lovely.

I like the idea of being the same color but different styles- so they coordinate but it’s not over the top “matchy matchy”

I originally planned on all of my bridesmaids to be in different dress. oddly enough, they all chose the same dress.

This was such a tough call for me! I started out wanting all the same dress, then all different, then all the girls and I talked and they all ended up liking the same dress. I am gifting necklaces (among other things) to them and they’ll all be accessorized to fit their personalities! It should end up looking pretty cool!

Looking forward to what you decide! We ended up having all our ladies in the same dress, but at least they all got to vote on what the one dress was, so they were happy to wear it (or maybe they were happy because I paid for their dresses!) ;)

I found a designer I love who has a very consistent look, but a broad range of styles. I’m thinking my ladies may all be wearing Nataya dresses in the wedding color of their choice!

Thanks for commenting! I’m still stressing a little about this and all the girls are wearing totally different dresses. In my mind it looks cool, but we’ll just have to wait and see!!

My girls get three different dresses to pick from (that they selected). I’m having 7 girls so finding one dress all of them will like is pretty hard. They will all be navy, and everyone has different budgets so this way they can chose!

in my sister-in-law’s wedding, she allowed the bridesmaids to chose whatever dress style, but from the same brand in two alternating colors. turned out pretty nice…cohesive but still individual to the girl.
