Mrs. Earrings's Picture
Mrs. Earrings, Fresno, CA/ Nelson, New Zealand Age and Occupation: 20, Student, Wannabe Writer Fiance's Age and Occupation: 19, Photography Student Engagement Date: February 14, 2010 Wedding Date: January 2011 Venue: Gardens of the World About Me: I'm a girl from down under who grew up in Indonesia and I'm marrying a California boy. I'm addicted to all things sweet, have never met a chocolate silk pie than can get the better of me, and have dreams of one day being a fulltime novelist. I go weak in the knees for lace, tea cups, and a beautifully crafted sentence. When I get excited about something (whether it is historical linguistics or the Beatles) I tend to go overboard in research, and planning this wedding is no different. Mr. Earrings is my high school sweetheart, my best friend, and somehow we combine all our quirks into one big happy mess.
About Mrs. Earrings

In a couple of weeks I will be having my hair and makeup trial. Which means, apparently, that I have to have an idea of what sort of hairstyle I want by then. I haven’t worn my hair all the way up since I was 10, so I know for sure I don’t want a complete up-do. But I don’t want my hair completely down either, so the half up-do it is. The trouble is: what sort of half-up do I want? I’m a bit all over the place when it comes to that.

My hair is naturally curly, mid length (a couple inches below my shoulders but you often cant tell because of the curls) and quite thin (annoyingly thin). I will be wearing a silver filigree floral headpiece (to be revealed!) and a simple finger-length veil for at least the ceremony.

So, with all that in mind, here are the pics that are my current inspiration for my ‘do.

I love these “vintage-esque” styles, but I dont know if I can pull them off:

Then we have Mrs Dumpling’s gorgeous style that I fell in love with as soon as I saw it. Plus she is wearing a veil in this pic, which gives me an idea of how I can wear my veil with a half up-do:

And here are some more inspiration pics, some more on the casual or loosely styled side of things, others with a bit more oomph. Do you see now how undecided I am on what I like?:

Yeah. So hopefully the hairdresser will be amazing and we can try a few of these out to see what looks best on me, and then I will be able to finally decide. I like the more casual up-dos because they seem fitting for a picnic garden wedding, but then again I like the ones that lean in a vintage direction because quite a few bits of our wedding accidentally follow a kind of English Victoriana theme (like my bolero, the teacups, etc). Oh decisions!

What half up-do style above is your favourite?

I too have naturally curly hair. Are you planning on straightening it then re-curling? I ask because some times my curls can get unruly and look a little disorderly. I know I definitely want my hair to be curly because that’s me, but I’m wondering if I want them to be man made curls to insure symmetry and cohesiveness.

I love your inspiration photos…I originally wanted to do a half-up style, but it made my face look huge so I changed my mind.

All of these styles are beautiful. I think the first one really fits your vintage theme the best.

@JenBabe: that’s a good question! I actually have no idea and will have to ask the hairdresser what will work best for my hair. My preference though would be to just leave it naturally curled, as Im lucky enough to get ringlets that way anyway. Good luck with you hair decisions!
