Mrs. Barrettes's Picture
Mrs. Barrettes, Tumon, Guam/Napa, CA Age and Occupation: 29, Dancer Fiance's Age and Occupation: 31, Licensed Building Contractor Engagement Date: November 16, 2008 Wedding Date: October 2010 Venue: V. Sattui Winery About Me: I'm an East Coast girl, living on a tiny little island in the Pacific, twirling, leaping, and shimmy-ing my way through life, and now, wedding planning! I'm equal parts nerdy and cool... okay, mostly nerdy. I love satin bows, red lipstick, black & white graphic anything, the shine of sequins and the sound of a champagne "pop". My favorite books are The Portrait of a Lady, by Henry James, and Tender is the Night, by F. Scott Fitzgerald. I can also conjure a pretty good Patronus Charm. I started my appreciation for good red wine while traveling on the high seas, and it's only fitting that my passion for wine drinking led me to my Napa-bred honey. We bonded over bottles of Cabernet on my oceanfront porch and haven't looked back since. We're sealing the deal at a winery in the Napa Valley on a 'perfect ten' of a day!

*Sigh* of Relief

*Sigh* of Relief : wedding guam officiant Sesra9 (source)

I was a little stressed out about who was going to officiate our ceremony. I didn’t want a friend or family member, although I did want an elder in our community and someone with a message to share. Even though we are marrying at a winery and not a church, I knew we wanted more of a traditional Christian ceremony. Not knowing what to do, I sort of pushed it to the back of the list, knowing that it would eventually get sorted out.

I was quite happy to hear that Mom Barrettes took the initiative to ask the pastor of our church in Hershey, Derry Presbyterian Church, if he was interested. He definitely appeared to be at the time, and quite more so when he found out it would be in Napa. (Seriously, who can resist?) I then e-mailed him with pictures of Ryan and me and asked him if he would marry us…how cute! He agreed, and now we have our officiant! I’m so thrilled to have Dr. Houtz on board. He has known me since I was a wee girl, and his presence and blessing will make the day that much more special to everyone!

How did you choose your officiant?

So…just wondering, if you’re from Hershey, do you know Mrs. Sushi?

What a cute picture!! Our officiants are stressful too- I keep having nightmares that they won’t show up! But that’s wonderful you have your family pastor flying out to Napa :) Big relief

We asked a friend, but he said “no.” So we found a nice woman on Craigslist. She did an excellent job. I’m an atheist and he’s an agnostic (recovering Evangelical) so it wasn’t important that we find a minister. I liked a Universal Unitarian minister who performs lots of ceremonies, but those many ceremonies made him busy during our timeslot.

that is so cute! We also wanted someone meaningful but not in a church. We married outdoors in a garden with DHs uncle who’s a pastor. It was perfect!

Um, I found mine on RentaPriest.com. Not kidding. We decided not to get married in a church, but I still wanted someone who was ordained a Catholic priest. He is fantastic!

Oh hey- I actually know where your church is! Whenever concert traffic backs up Chocolate Ave I detour down by the golf course to get to work- thankfully managed to avoid that mess this summer.

While I grew up going to Hershey Free and the now retired head pastor was there for my dedication and then my baptism, we decided to get married in Texas and have a good friend perform the ceremony. He has known FH for years, graduated from the seminary on campus, is now the worship pastor for a church in Ft. Worth, and is a dancer and therefore very supportive of the dance-heavy reception. Our wedding will be his second as the officiant (his sister is getting married in May, I believe) and his third wedding for the year (the first will be his own!) I’m really excited so how it works out.

Well I’m getting married on New Year’s Eve, which sounds like a swell idea until you start actually planning it. We couldn’t find a church or pastor to marry us. Finally a friend said she knew someone. We will be married by a pastor who is currently a bartender at a beach bar while he takes some time away from the clergy to think things through. Needless to say he’s really fun!

Gah the officiant search for us was a complete nightmare! Finally we decided my FI brother doing it. I’m just glad that - as of yesterday - we have an officiant and I don’t have to think about it anymore lol.

Unfortunately I was not an active church go-er growing up so I don’t have someone special to officiate our wedding but even besides that we’re going to get married in a Catholic church per my Mr.’s wishes so we’re just going to go with their priest!

Yay! That’s awesome that everything worked out in the end. We haven’t chosen our officiant yet. It’ll either be Mr. G’s oldest brother, his middle brother, or our mutual friend we met here in Japan who is coming all the way from England. It depends on who is actually coming and who is willing…
