Deer in Headlights

August 11th, 2010 @ 11:46 am by Mrs. Taco

No one likes looking like a deer in headlights or like they’re scared shitless as they walk down the aisle. That said, I’m incredibly jittery about my walk down the aisle in a few days (OMG). I’d love to keep my eye on my prized Mr. Taco and stare straight ahead with a huge, not-weird smile on my face. But I’m concerned that I’ll look more like I’m about to get run over by a truck coming straight at me. That, or like I’m uncomfortable or bummed.

At May Bride S’s wedding, I smiled for a bit and then, I think, smirked the rest of the way through due to nervousness. At least that’s how it appeared in a pic or two. Kinda like this, but this is the good version:

There’s a lot to keep track of, isn’t there?

Smile. Walk. Hold your bouquet this way. Don’t flatten your arm that way. Keep your feet steady in them shoes. For me, there’s the added element of my dad’s wheelchair; he’s rolling me down the aisle and I’m hanging on to his arm. Maybe I’ll feel better after rehearsal?

I’m naturally a smiley person who tries to laugh loudly and as often as possible; but I’m also an anxious, worried person who tends to fret. So, short of passing the Xanax, are there any tips out there in the hive for calming, prettying vibes on the way down? Especially for those of us who have trouble controlling our facial expressions?

Help!

imagine that you are doing a photo shoot, because, well you are :) It helps to keep the “pretty face”

I honestly wouldn’t worry about it, no matter what expression you have on your face (short of anger or disgust haha) your family, friends, and most importantly Mr. Taco will think you look amaze-balls.

I worry about this too! Especially since I have a tendency to lose control of my facial expressions when I get flustered. I don’t want to walk down the aisle scowling.

Haha I always get told that when I walk through the hallways at work, I look like I have a serious purpose, or that I’m mad! It’s probably because I’m always inside my head, but I hope that I don’t look like that on my day either! You just have to be calm, happy, and I’m sure it will come through :)

Honestly, walking down the aisle, the last thing on my mind was how my face would look in pictures! I think that @arenyth is right about your calm/happiness will show through, no matter what. You’ll look gorgeous!

Ms. T! I would recommend just looking at Mr. T. That’s how I started out because I was nervous, but the more I walked, the more excited I was because I was surrounded by all these people who I LOVED and who were in one place and I wanted to see them all and thank them right then and there! I was beaming in all the pictures, which is good because for the walk back down it, I looked like I had just been crying (because well I am emotional, and had gotten teary)…still happy, but let us just say for the record, I am one fugly cryer.

You however, will be stunning. Seriously, if that is your “smirk” your real smile will be earth shatteringly gorgeous! Good luck.

Ahh I am kinda afraid of this too…that and making sure I don’t have gum in my mouth….I have horrid flashbacks to prom processional video of us walking up and my chewing gum like a cow chews cud…so I need to make sure I don’t have any at all…I am also sure I will get that goofy looking grin I get when I am nervous…maybe I will have to practice walk the night before with my friends and they will tell me if I look stupid!

I read on a blog somewhere (sorry for the unreliable source reference) that if you keep your mouth in the position it falls in after saying the word “cheese whiz” you will appear sublimely confident without being fake looking. Maybe the smile has a little something to do with feeling silly after uttering the name of a processed cheese “food” while walking down the aisle. Worth a shot?

I wouldn’t worry too much. It’s so overwhelming, I doubt you’ll be too concerned with all those things you mentioned. It is utterly remarkable the love you feel as you see your friends and family and then the man you love who, in that moment, has the most love in his eyes for you than you’ve ever seen. You’ll be glowing…. I think I am the most beautiful that I’ve ever been in my wedding photos and I didn’t worry about how my face looked.

I had a nice sob face going on, mixed with a huge grin. I’m sure that will look weird. My thoughts are that no matter how much you prepare, you’ll end up doing something completely different the day of. Just enjoy it!!

As you’re walking down the aisle just keep thinking how you are about to marry the man of your dreams! Could be worth a shot?

I worry about this, too. For my MOH’s wedding, I tried to repress the tears and my mom asked me afterwards why I had a mad look. Nice. So, I’m going to concentrate on the MR. and let the emotions flow.

I swear, when the day comes, you won’t think about anything but your groom as soon as you see him!

Oh hell to the no. I know I’m going to look like a hot mess when I walk down the aisle. They say try not to worry about it but I have a tendency to look craycray when I’m in the spotlight. My game plan is to have a couple drinks beforehand!
