Vase Fail/Vase Win

August 11th, 2010 @ 10:36 am by Mrs. Socks

Last week, our vases I ordered from Katom Restaurant Supply arrived! I was so excited to get them after waiting about 3 weeks for their arrival.

Apparently I suck at reading and understanding dimensions (bag-zilla, anyone?) and when put against the IKEA vases I thought they’d be the same size as…

Vase Fail/Vase Win : wedding decor philadelphia Tiny Va

Well. You get the idea.

I guess my poor little fried bride brain got WAY too excited over the fact that they were white and 89 cents that I didn’t realize they weren’t the right size. 3.75 inches tall should have tipped me off.

Alas, I had to return the tiny Keebler elf sized vases. I didn’t want to spend $2.99 each for 50 of the IKEA vases above, so I hopped online to IKEA’s site to see what else they might have that would be worthy.

Ohh hiii:

It isn’t white, which is what I really really wanted, but these suckers were even LESS dough than the tiny vases! At 79 cents each, we bought 50 of them. As for height comparison:

They’re taller than the white vases with a more narrow opening, but craspedia stems are so thin that this won’t matter!

All in all, I learned an important lesson: look at the dimensions, Miss Socks!!

Were you surprised by any items you ordered online? Did you go with the flow or trade up for your original vision?

I bet you could spray paint them. Haven’t other people done this?

I’ve ordered tons of stuff online for the wedding, I’m internet savvy (and too busy to run around town for everything):

My gown (perfect), my vases (good), my shoes (very good), my earrings (too big), another set of earrings (just right), my new ring setting (fan-tabulous!).

We got our table number holders at IKEA. I never would’ve thought to shop there for wedding stuff, but it’s great! BTW - I love that Glee is on your coffee table. (c:

I like the clear ones! But if you wanted them white, you could spray paint them (like @camrie: suggested), or maybe even pour white paint inside them and swish it around to dye the inside part of the glass? That might look kind of cool.

Yeah, I like them clear, but Miss Husky’s idea of paint swishing sounds like fun.

I have seen the clear glass ones before! A restaurant near us uses them on their tables and always has fresh daisies in them. They have tiny river rocks at the bottom and I have always thought, “hmm, such cute vases, I wonder where they got them from?”

I’ve had to return shoes that were the wrong size and a longline bra that was in my size but so totally too small. Too bad IKEA can’t help me out with perfect fitting bras or shoes!

I was just going to suggest spraypainting them with a white glossy enamel…I’ve seen people do it before and it looks like it works!

I usually try to sketch out the dimensions of something before I buy it, that way I know what I am getting myself into. There were these real cute zinc plaques I wanted to use for table numbers. Luckily, I emailed the company to ask dimensions because they were TINY and would have been worthless for my intended use.

Wow, that’s a great price! And I’ve had my moments of excitement that turn to “What was I thinking?” when it arrives and I have to return it because it wasn’t what I was expecting. It happens.

I’m horrible with sizes too when I order something online! I just have no concept of anything involving numbers! Cute vase though, I might need to check out ikea’s website to stock up for our new apartment!

@camrie: Good idea! You could totally spray paint the clear ones white.
