About Mrs. Earrings

Embracing the Fair

August 12th, 2010 @ 1:08 pm by Mrs. Earrings

In conjunction with Indecisive Hair Inspiration, I bring you some Indecisive Makeup Inspiration.

I have very fair skin. In fact, when I was ten I was mistaken for a ghost one night on a school camp. The girl went into hysterics. I used to absolutely HATE my paleness. Unfortunately for me I can’t do anything about it because it seems impossible for me to get any sort of a tan (except on the tops of my feet. Go figure). So the only alternative over the years has been to slowly start “loving the skin I’m in” and get over it.

Because pale can be beautiful too (well Mr E tells me so, and I like to try to believe him :P ). Multiple people have asked if I’m going to get a spray tan for the wedding and the answer is, no. Mr E loves me, pale skin and all, so I don’t see why I should try to change that aspect of me just for our wedding.

I want a natural and “fresh” look on our wedding day.

Something soft and delicate that brings out the little colour I have and makes me feel good about my skin. Have I also mentioned I almost never wear any makeup? So, I don’t want to feel caked in it either.

The following pics are the kind of thing I’m going for. I think. Well they are a starting point anyway. We’ll leave it up to the makeup person to help me out with actual workable ideas when I have my trial.

I’m with you sister! This redhead thinks about the sun too hard and gets burned - which promptly fades back to pale. You will look beautiful and healthy and YOU at your wedding!

I have fair skin as well. I think it’s great you’re embracing it. My sweetheart loves my skin the way it is and I’m doing my best to find my best makeup options too. I think your inspiration photos are beautiful.

I didn’t try to look bronzed either. Most of my inspiration was for pink, dewy faces!

I rocked the pale at my wedding too! My husband is also super fair, so we made quite the ghostly couple. A lot of people (my mom included) bugged me to get a spray tan, but I refused and now that we got the pictures back (yay!) I’m really glad I look like myself in them–instead of like a fake-tanned Dayglo Barbie.

P.S. No offence to tan brides or ladies who use spray tan in general! I’ve just done it before and it always looks orange and fake on my ridiculously pale skin.

I was shocked at how many people asked me if I was going to spray tan too! I’ve never been tan, my skin is super pale and I just don’t get color. So why would I want to suddenly look tan on my wedding day?

I don’t understand why people would ask if you’re going to get a spray tan. Obviously, since you’re having an intimate wedding with people close to you, everyone is going to know it’s fake…geez! Embrace the fair skin!

This is dorky, but you should check out pictures of Jessica from “True Blood.” Apparently when they do her makeup, she’s so pale that the artist has to get out the colors he typically uses on ‘dead’ people. Her makeup is always amazing looking.

As a fellow pale gal who is planning on rocking the whiteness on her wedding day (my nickname is Whitey for Pete’s sake!) I have one person that I think you should pay close attention to. She looks like you and has the same pale skin and darker curly hair:

The amazing Emmy Rossum:

Yep I am a fair skin bride. But I am not a redhead (I have dark hair) and I had a makeup trial that didn’t go well because I can’t tell people enough that there is no yellow in my skin… it is pink and blue undertones. I looked yellow. Back to the drawing board. If you are fair with my undertones check out Zooey Deschanel. It is such a battle! Loved the last pic you posted.

If you like what your makeup artist does, please-please share what products she uses! As a pale-faced DIY-er, I need some suggestions!

Another fair skinned lady over here. My skin has warm peach undertones so I like to discribe my complexion as peaches and cream. It’s taken me a while but I’ve learned to love the fair skin that seems so uncommon here in southern california. it does help that i always get compliments on it from make up professionals.
and i’ve noticed lately that a lot of younger hollywood starlets are fair and gorgeous. just to name a few inspirations: Alexis Bledel, Reese Witherspoon, Christina Hendricks, (my idol), Scarlett Johansen, Amy Adams and the list goes on.

I feel for you too! my skin has the pink and red undertones as well which means on slight blemish or imperfection on this see-thru skin and BAM its redness everywhere! And my farmer fiance is all nice and tanned and thinks its funny to rub it in that the closest i get to a tan is a bunch of freckles. *sigh* SPF 30+ is my best friend. I can’t help feel envious of the bronze goddess brides out there, but even when i have paid $$ for a great spray tan, i always look like an orange Oompa Loompa!! Not the look i was looking for on my wedding day!

As someone who also has very light skin and darkish hair, I found a lot of great looks on Natalie Portman and Keira Knightly. Hope that helps!

You do not look ghost-like in the slightest. That girl was nuts!

My MUA asked whether I would be doing any tanning before the big day. I was kind of appalled, though I know she has to ask since I’m sure it’s something many brides do, and she needs to know what coloring to prepare for. But, why would I?! I agree with you, I love my skin the glow-in-the-dark color that it is, and I would not have risked spray tan before the wedding, you never can predict those orange streaks.

I will add the caveat, though, that I once successfully experimented with tanning cream for fun on a vacation and actually really loved it. Sometimes it’s fun to play with your appearance. But for the wedding, I wanted to be all that I was, the way that people were used to seeing me.

Ooooh guuuurrl! I am a pale, pale, pale girl too. My makeup artist is going for steely gray and silver eye makeup with pink cheeks and pink lips. I have a post back in the archives about my makeup inspirations.
